Considering the flak received by the FO for not making changes, this is quite a roster. Eight guys who have never played for the Twins and another 6 that were late second half additions. Only 11 of these guys were on the opening day roster last year. Of the 8 new guys, I think Cruz, Pineda, Cron and Gonzales will be among the best players. Perez, Parker and Schoop could be solid and Harper is the feel good story guy. I think with Buxton leading the way this will be a very fun team to follow.

Article: Musical Chairs In The Bullpen

Such a strange situation. . The Geek says we have too many relievers and it would hurt to cut one. Gleeman says we must sign another relief guy so thereby cutting two of our favs. What a conundrum -
Article: Twins Payroll Really is Resource Allocation
wagwan replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Simple stats, but the Twins are actually very close to the median payroll of $108 million. What we have here is the teams that will be in the playoffs again,Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs spending almost twice as much as the rest of the league. So median is what to look at. The Twins are right in the middle so they can expect to compete for that 2nd wild card if things break right and have a 1 game playoff season.- 80 replies

yeah based on the early season struggles of Rooker and Morrison I'd say it's time to renew Mauer's contract.

Will Congress Screw Minor League Players Today?
wagwan commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
Guess what we get to do today Brooks.... we get to play baseball" - The Rookie It's not a job. It's baseball. They are young men in their 20's living their dream. "Career minor league" guys stop at 30. Then they move on. Should there be more money? I guess. But I'm a teacher. Should I get more money? Sure. But I know that there isn't more money to be had. Nobody is getting rich running a minor league team. If more people paid to watch minor league baseball the players would get more money. Most sports are that way. I wrestled in college. Nobody pays to watch amateur wrestling. When I was 21 I would have loved to spend the summer playing ball. These guys get a uniform, having fans in the stand and enough money for a kid. Sounds like paradise to me. -
Will Congress Screw Minor League Players Today?
wagwan commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
Although I believe that minor league ballplayers should get more money, they are being paid minimum wage. $1200 a month is about $7.50 an hour. They at least have a shot at a big payoff. Meanwhile many people in the U.S. will be making that salary for many years to come and trying to support a family too. I will save my angst for them and hope congress will help those people by raising the minimum wage. And since the first 10 rounds of the draft receive a bonus to sign, at least 25% of the players have got something already to fall back on. -
7 years 175 million is less than Mauer's contract , and his is 8 years old. There is more money to be had by the Twins especially if they win. 23 mill a year for Mauer is 23% of a Hundred mill team payroll. 25 mill for a year for Darvish is only 18% of a 135 million payroll. The money will come back to the team easily if they make a big statement AND if they win. I have been back and forth on this but right now I think they should go for it. Darvish will have at least three great years in him. Why not try to win?

Article: Busenitz Looks To Provide Relief
wagwan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This was not meant to be a comment on Busenitz. I hope he does well. I was merely finishing the quote rearranging the deck chairs. Guys here are using it and some maybe did not realize the Titanic part of it. the expression The idea obviously is that it is not much use to rearrange the deck chairs if the ship is going down. I hope the twins can find a couple of guys in the system who can to help out the bullpen.- 44 replies

Pick the best player means don't do maneuvers like signing for under slot. I think that The Twins picked under slot at picks 35 and 37. Or even at 1 for that matter. Picks 8, 9 and 10 were also under slot picks since they were seniors with no leverage. This matters because Picks 1 - 10 are where the most emphasis is. The goal is to get all of those guys signed, and then sign as many of the rest as you can. So why take under slot guys? Since this is such a crap shoot don't mess around. Take the top guy on your board when your pick comes up.

Article: Twins Draft Blayne Enlow, Seven More
wagwan replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree. But my point was based on the fact that the Twins offered him first, and then went to Lewis. If they liked him better take him. It should be quality over quantity in the baseball draft. Enlow is the one pick that was ranked much higher than than when the Twins took him. Every other picked so far has been a guy that could be signed under slot. They were all ranked lower than when they were taken. The Twins can't be smarter than everybody.- 352 replies

Article: Twins Draft Blayne Enlow, Seven More
wagwan replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No what I am upset about is they are taking guys early in the rounds that are lower rated so that they can look clever by making a late round master stroke. If they thought McKay was better than Lewis, they should have taken Lewis. Taking Rooker and Leach at 35 and 37, NOBODY had them there, so they could make clever moves later is not the way to go. Probability is the higher drafted guys have a better shot at making the majors. Get the best guys available in the early rounds. Don't try to score in the late rounds. Spend your money on the best guys available.- 352 replies

Article: Twins Draft Blayne Enlow, Seven More
wagwan replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is such a terrible draft. The one thing people can agree on is don't draft for need, take the best player available. But the Twins are too busy playing games, trying to look smart by getting a round 4 guy in the tenth round, or whatever else they are trying to do. Just pick the best guy available and quit messing around.- 352 replies

The Twins drafted Rooker in the 38th rd when he was a junior. That puts him below most of the twins draftees.

And as far as the new additions ranking in Twins prospect lists, Lewis should be ranked lower than Javier and Palacios. Rooker will struggle to be a top 50 Twin. And Leach should not be ranked.

This is quite depressing. Lewis can't hit and doesnt have a position. The next guy is a DH who will be 23 in class A ball, playing behind lewin diaz who is two years younger. And then we got the Canadian Kohl Stewart. At least we won't have to suffer through hearing the cliche" we couldn't believe he was still available " line. What a huge disappointment.
