Article: Twins Add Three Players To 40 Man Roster
clone52 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There is no chance Diaz even gets picked, let along stick on a roster for the entire season. Corner Infielders are rare picks in the Rule 5 draft and the few that do get picked have at least a full season of AA under their belt. Diaz getting picked would be unprecedented. As for the unprotected relievers, the front office must think they are all basically interchangeable. You're not going to lose more than 1 or 2 of them at most, so you still have some leftover. Stewart, I'm guessing the front office just doesn't see much projection from.- 127 replies

Article: BREAKING: Twins Acquire Garcia From Braves
clone52 replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't compare him to Nolasco. If they sign him to a contract extension in the offseason, then you can compare him to Nolasco. You're getting him for basically nothing. I bet the percentage of guys who fit the mold of Ynoa making the majors is less than 5%. -
Article: BREAKING: Twins Acquire Garcia From Braves
clone52 replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, comparing it to a second round pick is stupid. They spent $800K on a 15 year old who threw 91mph. There is no comparison to the draft because you can't draft a guy that young. They have had 2.5 years to see this guy up close and personal. Maybe the Twins now view him as a 5th round talent or a 10th round talent. Do you really want a front office who holds onto a guy "just" because they spent $800K to sign him 3 years ago, even if they don't view him as a high end prospect anymore? -
WARNE: My 2017 AL and NL All-Star Teams

Ramirez over Sano. He's having an amazing year. Not having Santana on the pitching staff? That's moronic. He should be in ahead of Fulmer or Carrasco. -
Article: Coming Soon: Starting Pitching (But How Soon?)
clone52 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I imagine there are a lot of reasons they'd put more in instructionals. Maybe they wanted him working on another pitch and didn't want that happening in real games. Maybe they wanted to give him 6, 7 or 8 days rest between pitching, which would really hamper the roster of a minor league team. Who knows.- 95 replies

Article: Coming Soon: Starting Pitching (But How Soon?)
clone52 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Its not a choice of switching him back and forth between relieving and starting. I'd be an innings limit thing. Its entirely possible that with an innings limit, he only has 7 or 8 starts left this season and he would be shut down. Would it make more sense to give him 4 or 5 more starts, then 10-15 relief appearances at the majors? Other big time starters have gone that route (Price, Sale, Scherzer). It wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world.- 95 replies

Its not a blanket statement that pitchers can't succeed right away, but what if they see some of the same things in these guys that they saw in Berrios before he came up?- 95 replies

clone52 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm going to guess that Leach isn't going to sign for much under slot, if at all, especially if he was talking that he wanted to go to college. Maybe they will spend money on him. Seems to have a good scouting report.- 720 replies

My only concern on boosting the offense of the catchers is whether the catchers are the main reason our pitchers are competing.- 44 replies

Article: Key Twins Quarter-Mark Questions
clone52 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For example, Tampa Bay is currently 10th best bullpen ERA in baseball, at 3.72. If you remove their 2 worst games, their ERA drops to 3.10.- 44 replies

Thats a fair point, but I doubt many other team have 2 games where their bullpen gave up 22 earned runs. I'd be willing to bet that if you dropped the worst 2 games on every team's bullpen, the Twins would still have a Top 10 bullpen.- 44 replies

Article: Key Twins Quarter-Mark Questions
clone52 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I honestly don't think the bullpen is a question mark at all. Currently they are 18th in baseball in ERA and have a 4.18 ERA. Pretty mediocre, but look beneath the numbers. The Twins had 2 travesty games. If you take those 2 games away, the bullpen has a 2.95 ERA good enough for 4th best in baseball. Taking those same 2 games away, Matt Belisle has a 1.25 ERA in 16 games instead of a 7.80 ERA. Taylor Rogers has a 1.22 ERA in 20 games instead of a 3.52 ERA. Even Haley would have a 4.2 ERA instead of 6.60. That really gives them 5 very solid guys in Kintzler, Duffey, Breslow, Belisle and Rogers. Really, Pressley is the only hole in the bullpen and even he has looked good the past few games. Adam Wilk as well I guess, but they probably need him for mop-up duty with such a thin rotation.- 44 replies

Article: Surprises Mark Twins Opening Day Roster
clone52 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hughes is healthy (hopefully) Santiago might produce better results than Ricky Nolasco Gibson had a bad year and should revert to the mean Young players should improve (Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario, Polanco) None of these are gaurenteed, but they are reasons for hope.- 388 replies

Article: Surprises Mark Twins Opening Day Roster
clone52 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Berrios and Chargois will be called up eventually. The logic to send Berrios down made sense. Need more innings. The logic on Chargois is debateable. On the one hand, you could just let him pitch in the majors. On the other, you might run the risk of ruining him if he gets devoured. What if he was having command problems with one of his pitches and just needed to work through it. A few weeks in the minors makes sense.- 388 replies

Not necessarily. It sounds like Gimenez can play OF our 1B, so in theory, he could be the platoon with Mauer. He's got much better splits againts lefties.- 388 replies

Mauer doesn't have to play every day. Kepler or even Sano probably gives him days off. This is all probably short term. They won't keep 13 pitchers for that long and its entirely possible that Santana gets released at some point.- 388 replies

Article: How Will The New CBA Affect The Twins?

Yeah, but he could choose the Reds. If the Dodgers were offering double the money of the Reds, he'd never choose the reds. -

Reading up a bit more on it, it sounds like this was middle ground. The owners wanted an International Draft and ended up with this instead. -
Article: How Will The New CBA Affect The Twins?
clone52 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not really talking about the old guys. I'm moreso talking about the guys getting their first contract after arbitration. I could be completely wrong. Maybe the MLBPA really wants the owners to spend a boatload of money on international players. -
Article: How Will The New CBA Affect The Twins?
clone52 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And the big money going to stars with their second contract is far, far better than it going to unproven rookies. At their second contract, the player is a veteran and has proven he belongs. NFL players don't bemoan that Von Miller got a huge contract, he deserves it. Its stupid when guys like Jamarcus Russell, Darius Heyward-Bey and Vince Young get rediculous rookie contracts. -

clone52 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Umm, being able to cut a player earlier is helpful to the veterans. Sure, you can still cut veterans early, but you don't have a Top 10 draft bust eating up a significant portion of your salary cap. -
Article: How Will The New CBA Affect The Twins?
clone52 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see how the international spending cap is a capitulation by the MLBPA. Why would current players want teams to spend ridiculous amounts of money on unproven players. It seems to me like the MLBPA would rather that money go to current players, or player development or whatever. In the NFL, wasn't the player's association in favor of limiting the value of rookie contracts so those rookies didn't take up all the cap space and reduce available salaries for veterans? Seems like the same logic would apply here.
