Richie the Rally Goat's Achievements

  1. criteria copied from the article: Always drunk fan Always negative fan The fan who never stops yelling Bandwagon fan The know-it-all fan The condescending fan The fan who never sits down Obsessed with fantasy fan The fan who pretends to like sports but doesn’t The fan stuck living in the glory years Are we sure that Twins fans should be ranked as sparkly as they are…. I think we all do these very frequently :)
  2. I love your optimism. I don’t share it on Gallo, but hope you are right. I think we’ll be cursing his futile whiffs and .199 batting average, 15 home runs…. But as I said, I hope you are right.
  3. Predictions for an entire team formulated from one inning each by two different pitchers from a very early spring training game? Confirmation of what?
  4. Agreed, best of luck to Martin that it is a mild sprain and he rests/recovers his way back to the diamond quickly!
  5. There are so many bullets left in the magazine for all/any of us. Especially with athletes, their prime only lasts so long. Every pitch could be the last for any pitcher. Every swing of the bat could be the last for any hitter. No guarantees in life
  6. Indeed, injury bug has already set in. Hopefully just getting that out of the way
  7. I appreciate your thoughtful response. I believe the HOF discussion should be reflected against peers/era. Chuck Knoblauch v. Tony Oliva isn’t an apples to apples comp. That being said, your question has merit if Knobby might be under rated a bit. good discussion topic. I always enjoy the stat debates. It’s fun to learn about the context of the calculations
  8. @Flyover Steve are you trying to poke holes in WAR as a stat to judge players? If so, why? What’s wrong with the stat? Which WAR? Is it being used incorrectly, or are you applying value to it, not commonly used? as I know it, WAR isn’t a criteria to win a batting title, batting average is. WAR might be used by the BWAA voters, but it’s in context of full career or season-long achievements (depending on which accolade we’re talking about) us rubes throw WAR around a lot. It’s one of the most comprehensive and accessible stats. Accessibility is key, because we don’t have the resources that websites, publications and MLB FOs have to crunch the numbers and educate other rubes why our stat is better than the ones they have access to.
  9. Byron Buxton, Alex Kirilloff, Jose Miranda and Jorge Polanco have never played their positions before? I think a little more research might help assuage your fear.
  10. I think your observations are astute, but maybe weighed a bit too heavily against Baldelli. Keep in mind that Baldelli and his coaching staff have them to mold and sculpt for a couple seasons. Most of these players have played professionally for 4-6 years before getting to the bigs, many of them for several years in the bigs before Baldelli coaches them, and all of them for 8-10 years before becoming professionals. it takes more than a season or two, to undo 15 years of coaching. also, the FO has acquired a crap-ton of lumbering three-true-outcomes hitters. You can’t make Willie-Mays-Hayes out of Trevor Larnach. They apparently have identified the gap and are addressing it, but again, it’ll take more than an off-season to make that transition
  11. as Fort Myers was heavily impacted by the hurricane last year and @se7799@Squirrel discusses in the other thread, I thought it might be good to discuss on it’s own thread how TDers are navigating the very challenging Spring Training Accommodations. I can’t make it this year, but my usual air BnB is gone :(
  12. Might wait until they need the 40 man spot to add him to the 60 day? edit: after rereading @Rosterman’s post, they have to fill the vacancy with the 60 day transaction definitionally, so yes…. they can’t reduce to 39 players on the 40 via 60 day il, answering my own question.
