  1. How does that 2012 draft look right now? Buxton in the first round, second overall, Berrios was a supplemental first-round pick, 32nd overall, Duffey was in the fifth round and Rogers was in the 11th round. Has any team ever taken an MVP and a Cy Young in the draft? Could Buxton, Berrios, and Rogers all be All-Stars together? Berrios has twice been an All-Star. 2012 was the first year the Twins had a high pick after winning so much the previous decade.
  2. The plan might be for Kiriloff to start in AAA and Larnach in AA. Then went Kiriloff gets called up, Larnach gets moved up to AAA. Of course, if the Saints do have Larnach and Kiriloff to start the season, that could be a real hard ticket to purchase early in the season, especially if there's very limited seating.
  3. Shoemaker at best would be a Five and Fly guy. He's not pitched more than 77 innings since 2016, when he pitched a career-high 160 innings.
  4. Since Maeda finished runner-up for the AL Cy Young, this is sort of a little bit of a step back for him.
  5. I'm guessing a lot of prospect lists are going to look very different come midseason since there was no minor leagues last season and I'm guessing it will impact players in many different ways.
  6. I was a sports copy editor for a SoCal newspaper many years ago, and a columnist referred to Angels closer Troy Percival as Max Pervical. That became the running joke in the sports department every time he came in to close a game. "Here comes Max!"
  7. This fills the DH spot and the need for a big bat for the Twins. With Simmons essentially replacing Gonzalez, the only real questions are LF and the utility role vacated by Adrianza. LF could be filled by Kiriloff or a Rooker/Cave platoon if the Twins want to hold off on Kiriloff initially. Do the Twins go with Astudillo for Adrianza's spot or will they let Nick Gordon compete for a utility role? Will LaMonte Wade be competing for a roster spot? My guess is the Twins will sign one more pitcher, most likely a reliever, although they may opt for a starter that will push Dobnak into the bullpen as a long reliever.
  8. Maybe Sano is the hitters equivalent of Bret Saberhagen. He's good every other year. His best OPS+ in an even year is 108. His worst OPS+ in an odd year is 126. Hopefully, he has a much more normal offseason and start to the year, plus he doesn't have to worry about a position switch.
  9. I'm surprised the '05, '06, and '10 Twins all finished ahead of the '01 Twins since they were largely the same defensively as the '02 Twins.
  10. Keith Law has now come out with the "Just Missed" list of 12 players that didn't make the Top 100 and Trevor Larnach is not on that either, so he isn't in Law's top 112 prospects, which really isn't surprising considering where's he's had him ranked in the past. As for Luis Arraez, no one had him ranked in the top 100 because he had to very special at his one skill set, hitting for average and controlling the strike zone, to be of value. He's certainly done that. In fact, he's exceeded projections because he's actually hit slightly better in the majors than in the minors or even winter ball.
  11. And for what it's worth, pre-2020, BA had Larnach ranked 45th overall, MLB had him ranked 81st and BP had him ranked 85th, so Law definitely had him ranked lower than pretty much anyone else.
  12. Law had Larnach ranked 7th in the Twins organization last year just behind Cavaco. Here's his synopsis:
  13. Escobar went from a 102 OPS+ to a 104 OPS+ and is most improved? Hicks went from 76 to 96. I think you've got to give it to him. Or maybe going off the board and give it to Gibson, who went from an 87 ERA+ to a 105.
