  1. Yes, Chih Wei Hu. A lotto type pitching prospect who has looked pretty good, and who we later traded to Tampa for Jepsen.
  2. Most prospects struggle in their first taste. Trout struggled mightily and had to be demoted, so I'm not sure why you are listing him. Miguel Sano was one of the best power hitters in all of baseball last year, for the 90 games he was up. And Rosario was a capable rookie too. Even Danny Santana excelled his rookie season. Most prospects struggle, some so okay, a few excel immediately. The Twins are no different than any other team in this regard. Not having Sano play OF in the minors was a poor decision. I don't understand that one.
  3. Either way, we don't need a metric to tell us that starters have more value than relievers. Top starters approach 30 million per year on the open market, 15 gets you a back end vet like Hughes or Nolasco. Entire bullpen probably rarely approach 30 million per year.
  4. Unless the mistakes are caused by a lack of effort then the only way to correct them is to get more experience. The only way to get more experience is to play more baseball. The reason legit prospects get more rope is because there is a potential upside to letting them play through those mistakes. You also need filler guys because no organization has 25 legit prospects at every level. Naturally those guys don't get as long of a leash because there is no payoff later to letting theme play through their mistakes. Milb isn't about wins and losses it's about developing talent for the parent club. There are Indy leagues if those clubs would rather focus on winning games. And, occasionally, but not often, you do see an affiliate decide not to renew with an MLB club for that reason.
  5. I do as well. I wasn't responding to the part about family. I was responding to the statement about them beating up their bodies for our entertainment. That is not at all what they do. They beat up their bodies for massive, life altering paychecks, it makes no difference to them if we are entertained or not. Besides, there are probably several hundred jobs that are harder on a body than baseball.
  6. That's not what they are doing. They beat up their bodies for a paycheck. This isn't a hobby, these are not amateurs.
  7. Max Kepler could have a decent little career as a bench player. Personally, I'd rather give him a shot at being an everyday player first, and go from there if he fails. Meyer has the tools to be a top of the rotation starter. Those guys don't grow on trees. He can be moved to the bullpen at anytime, there isn't really any kind of learning curve going to the pen. Meyer had one bad year, now we don't even want to give him a chance to see if he can hit that ceiling?
  8. I'm guessing the life changing, make that multiple generational life changing, money is a decent incentive as well. You phrase it like they are volunteer firefighters or something.
  9. The first part is not true. They can send Duffey down and if it turns out he is too hurt to pitch they can retroactively put him on the mlb DL. They also could put one of them on the DL. Either one is fine. All I ever hear is that we have a ton of SP depth and it takes 7 or 8 starters to get through a season. If that is true, then why are we afraid to put one of these guys on the DL? In Ervins case, he'd only miss one more start. Second, I don't think Plouffe is anywhere near returning. This is typically a 6 to 8 week injury, and while everyone heals at a different rate, I don't think I've heard any reports of him swinging a bat.
  10. Nice to see Harrison possibly figuring some things out. Better late than never. With all the depth we already have at the corners he'll likely never start here regardless, but he could end up having some value as a second or third piece in a trade.
  11. There is no reason to put him on the 40 man roster if you are not willing to call him up today if needed.
  12. It's worse than that. This is a professional scout who has been around the game for 50 years who scouted Murphy in person the last few days. His personal evaluation was that Murphy belonged on a mlb roster, when in fact the player was playing without his heart in the game and decided to retire because he didn't have it anymore. Wow. It's time for Ryan to step down and let someone younger take over.
  13. I get that we can't expect them to hit their body weight, but would it be too much to ask of our catchers to not throw the ball around the field?
  14. If Duffy goes to the DL, Polanco can be recalled. Ten day wait is waived with the DL move.
  15. Alternatively they could have left Kepler up and demoted Duffey or DL,d Ervin. Playing an MLB game with a 2 man bench makes them look like they have no idea what they are doing.
  16. Danny Santana played RF? Is this the Twins giving themselves RF options so they can move Sano back to third base? Or is my tin foil hat a little too tight?
  17. The Twins don't want a pitcher of Berrios potential retching free agency before age 30. They will find excuse after excuse to keep Berrios in the minors.
  18. The 40 man roster shouldn't be an issue. There are several players who are completely replaceable.
