  1. I think the Twins will win the central by 5+ games. I'll come back here in October....
  2. I love this team's position flexibility. They truly have a lot of guys who can go so many places. It seems like a logjam now, but after the first wave of injuries come, we will still be able to put a quality product on the field. LF - Gallo, Larnach, Lewis (July), Wallner, Kiriloff, Farmer CF - Buxton, Taylor, Gallo, Lewis (July), Farmer RF - Kepler, Gallo, Wallner, Taylor, Kiriloff, Farmer And this doesn't even include prospects coming up later! Or Celestino. Great job by this front office planning for a realistic season, not an ideal one.
  3. Agreed! I like the trade as well. I think a better way for me to state my opinion would be, I don't think the FO saw as much long term value as other teams might have.
  4. Here's my guess at a lineup - not sure if they are facing a LH or RH opening day. Buxton CF Polanco 2B Correa SS Gallo LF Miranda 3B Kiriloff 1B Wallner DH Vasquez C Kepler RF Bench - Gordon, Jeffers, Farmer, Larnach?
  5. I think it is pretty clear that this front office did not value him as highly as others. Probably because of his knees and overall health. This front office really seems to value position flexibility, and Luis Arraez was eventually going to become a full time DH. And a poor one at that.
  6. I'm out on this one. Taking a slim chance at a rebound and also doesn't fit positionally very well either.
  7. Here's what I would do. Let Kepler, Gallo, and Gordon backup CF. And when Royce is back in July/August he becomes the primary CF backup, while splitting time as a backup LF & SS. Basically an everyday player who gives Correa and Buxton a day off when needed. Starting in LF/RF for a full-strength lineup.
  8. Very surprised the MLers are leaking but not any more significant names for the Twins.
  9. That's exactly what the front office is trying to when debating to trade Arraez or not. And that is what this discussion is about. I'll take Duran's WAR over the next 3 years over Arraez. And I'd take the same bet with WPA. A player's value is not in what they did last season, but rather what they can do for you the length of their contract.
  10. Byron Buxton had a higher OPS+ in 2022 than Luis Arraez, including more RBIs in almost 200 fewer at bats. Solo homeruns are much more valuable than a single. It is simply a fact. And sure, Luis Arraez is above average at getting on-base. But in no other way as a hitter. He has one tool. And that doesn't even include playing infield anymore. He's a week hitting 1B/DH. And in a couple years (or fewer) a weak hitting DH.
  11. I think the thing being missed with Arraez is that he clearly has a degenerative knee issue. He started as a 2B/3B/OF and has went to maybe a 2B and now is maybe a 1B. This has happened in too short period of a time to think he has any longevity. So, his value is as high as it's going to get AND it's going to go down substantially in the next two years. Duran's value is high AND it's going to go higher. I'm fine with keeping Arraez as well, but to expect him to be a significant contributor for very much longer doesn't seem wise.
  12. I'd take Buxton in 50 games over Arraez in 100. People are over valuing a singles hitter. I get that he is fun and easy to root for. But he's a barely above average hitter who is only going to be on the dirt for a couple more years. You want a full-time, singles hitting DH?
  13. No parallels. Kepler should be traded because he doesn't fit on this team (LH) and he doesn't bring much value to the lineup either. Addition by subtraction.
  14. I'd love it. But is he your everyday RF or LF once Royce Lewis comes back? And what about when Wallner is knocking on the door? A 4 man outfield of Lewis, Buxton, Adell, Wallner does sound nice. Trade value in Larnach, Kepler, and potentially Kiriloff (moving Miranda to 1B, allowing Brooks Lee to take over 3B for opening day 2024.)
  15. Sell when the value is the highest. Arraez will never have higher value than he does now. Those knees are not going to improve at all. Keep him and he might be a productive hitter for another 2-3 years before those knees make him a light-hitting, slightly above average on-base, postionless player.
  16. Everyone seems to be rooting for Nick Gordon, which I think is justified. But I believe after the addition of Correa, his role on this team became very questionable. I think Farmer is not the 4th RH hitting OF, as well as a backup SS/IF. Will they use a roster spot just for a LH hitting backup OF? And even if they did, would that just be until Royce Lewis is healthy in the late summer? I'd love for the Twins to find a way to keep Gordon, even if that meant trading Kepler, Larnach, and/or Kiriloff.
  17. Certainly. I think SWR looks good so far. Martin looks like he needs to make another step to be an impactful Major Leaguer.
  18. Agreed. I think he was good as gone. Would have liked to get a more concrete prospect than Austin Martin. But hindsight is 20/20
  19. This is honestly a great take. I think I am on-board with this thought process.
  20. I would love to add another impact bat. Rather than trade Kepler and fill it in house. Maybe a veteran that you could move to DH if Wallner is too hot to keep at AAA.
