  1. His pick position is sunk cost at this point, I like the idea of fast tracking him in the role he knows if this front office deems that is the best move. He has some nasty stuff that is going to play way up in the pen. Falveyco was brought in to overhaul the pitching program, I am willing and excited to see the results of a new modern approach in this system. TR thought he had an ace up his sleeve drafting big college bullpen arms minus the wear and tear of being a starter. I don't think its going to be real shocking if that doesn't amount to mlb starters.
  2. I think Chargois is the heir apparent. Burdi is still a wildcard from the minors eventually too. Kintzler was a nice surprise last year but I see a lot of Jared Burton in him. Perkins is better used as a setup guy even if he does get most of the way back.
  3. Former Twins hired back into the organization --- check Appear interested in big name free agents --- check Appear interested in big trade --- check Sign 1 cheap veteran position player - check Lackluster bullpen addition (preferably from the NL) --- check Whelp off season is done, are we sure it wasn't Rob Antony pulling the levers all these years with TR as some baseball euphemisms spouting puppet figure? More seriously Belisle for 2 mil is fine, as a 6th/ 7th innings eater guy. Belisle for setup man/closer single piece to fix the bullpen is Twins.
  4. Hammel would be a decent enough move, but really he is another in the Gibson/Hughes/Santiago/Placeholder bin. I would rather they just give the young guys ample opportunities to take a rotation spot and run with it.
  5. MLB - Castro/ Murphy AAA - Garver/ Centeno?
  6. With the Dodgers needing to go cheaper yet still wanting vets to make another run I wonder if Perkins would interest them as a Jansen replacement. I would happily include him to sweeten the return and LA does like its blockbuster trades.
  7. Hermann was not a good defensive catcher hence playing the outfield often, and he may have a little higher average with backup plate appearances but it would suffer from exposure. Butera is excellent defensively but the improved offense is a low plate appearence mirage. Neither are starting calibre with Castro has proven to be, hes not a top 10 guy or anything but hes an average starter at a premium position.
  8. Great pitch framer, questionable blocking skills, noodle arm, mediocre bat. Hes no world beater but he at least has one legit mlb skill and is passable at others. Good catchers are very hard to acquire unless its through your minor leagues or through your wallet at the top of the free agent pool. I like this addition, watching Suzuki/ Doumit for a few years made me pine for DruBu and his defense. I do wish Castro was better against the running game but then he would have cost more and had a larger market.
  9. I think Thome, Willingham, and Vargas have him beat in the slow department, but that doesn't really say anything positive for Plouffe. He kinda became the anti-Dozier, came up incredibly pull happy and lost power as he started to try and hit the ball the other way.
  10. I complained about him when he was here but these last couple years have really made me miss DruBu. If you aren't going to have a top tier catcher that can hit and field (which are expensive and rare), I would much rather have an all glove guy. Castro seems like the best option to me, and cross your fingers Garver turns out. They could target someone in a trade again but teams aren't going to part with good catching prospects for what the Twins have to offer.
  11. I think Falvey brings in a new pitching coach for sure, his major selling point was Cleveland's modern advanced pitching approach and he isn't going to replicate that with Neil Allen or keeping any of the Twins old approach to it. Molitor seems to be staying but may well have the same fate after another crappy finish next year. Bruno deserves a lot of credit for Dozier, but few others seem to have flourished under him. Mientkiewicz intrigues me and it will be interesting to see how the new regime handles him. He seems kind of Gardy school but gets great reviews and has had impressive success. I liked him over Molitor before and still do, he has a connection with the next wave of prospects and is a rising commodity in the coaching market.
  12. The more I see the more I love this hire. Falvey is a massive change in approach for this organization. Watching some of that SABR Conference its exciting to think of that approach to the Twins. I think there are some massive growing pains ahead, but the approach to those has just gotten a hell of lot more modern and competitive. Kudos to Korn Ferry they helped bring modern baseball and basketball to Minnesota for organizations stuck in the past and behind the curve.
