i'm not apt to think too much about this when his ankle may or may not be an overripe banana.

despite what a lot of people say, there's no reason to give away a guy a guy with nearly 3,500 league average career plate appearances to make room for two prospects who are great but have been injured and two outfielders with big-time swing-and-miss in their profiles (gallo and baby gallo matt wallner).

i don't think "kepler being parted out" was the metaphor you wanted there

they were 13th in MLB in OF fWAR last year so, uh, forgive my skepticism

maybe it's my age showing or just how the game progressed through the years, but was killebrew REALLY more popular than puckett? i find it hard to believe. better person? without a doubt. better character? obviously. more popular? consider me dubious.

if they perceive themselves to be tapped out budget wise -- whatever -- they should trade kepler and sign luke voit and michael fulmer for that amount of cash.

it's possible. but plenty of players have needed time to find their bearings on a big-league field. it's a big-league skill set, anyhow.

i don't really see it. unsustainable is dipping into free agency every year and handing out big contracts. more sustainable is trading for guys who are pretty good that you think/hope you can make better. more sustainable yet -- most sustainable? -- is developing your own (which seems to be the plan they're moving toward)

One thing I've noticed this offseason is that the Twins seem to be following a curious pattern. So, they signed Christian Vazquez, right? He's a pretty decent hitting catcher, a very good defender and swings from the right side. Sound familiar? They also traded for Michael A. Taylor, a right-handed hitter with some speed and terrific defense. Sound familiar? To some extent too, the Twins bringing back Carlos Correa is also maybe a signal for another player they thought would be a franchise-transforming shortstop. It's possible I'm overthinking this, but bringing in Vazquez as the template for what they'd like Ryan Jeffers to be seems far from accidental. The same thing can be true for Taylor with Gilberto Celestino, who is almost certainly gonna start the season at St. Paul. Celestino had more than his share of gaffes on the field last season, but the template is there for a good defender with some speed and a bit of pop from the right side. For Royce Lewis, I can't imagine a better mentor/player to model his game after than Correa. I don't know. It's possible I'm overthinking this. What do you think?
