  1. Every team and fanbase in MLB is thinking and hoping for the same thing during the spring, "let's stay healthy through March". I would say that any team that has to rely on backups for prolonged periods is not going to do well, backup's are just that, Backup's. They're meant to get you through a few tough stretches, not to have to play for large portions of the season.
  2. Amen Steve, give me guys with 3 pitches and control/location and I won't wear down my bullpen as fast as using 4 or 5 pitchers a game.
  3. I love these Mount Rushmore lists, reminds me of all the great, above avg and just plain solid players the Twins have had over the years. I can't argue with any of the names on the list accept for Walter, I think we keep it with Twins who played in Minn, I get it, but our Twins are a Minnesota team. Maybe we can have a Mount Rushmore of just everyones favorite Twins, might make for more discussion. Hrbek, Lyman Bostock, Torii Hunter, Oliva,,,, to many to choose.
  4. I think the ranking is about right, being that these are prospects and are supposed to be based on potential. The kid was a great get for Twins where they got him as many had him rated extremely high before surgery. I think some teams made a mistake letting him slide as far as he did, many kids have Tommy John surgery and are fine. I think its better to get it out of the way early if it's going to happen so he can recover while he's young. Here's hoping we can actually develope the Ace we all crave for the team.
  5. No to another reliever at the moment. We have a pretty solid group of arms in St Paul if we need another BP arm. Lets see where the spring takes this team, then if needed maybe an arm can be obtained in a trade. If Kepler has a hot spring maybe Twins can get a young pitching prospect or 2.
  6. I think that starting the year in AA makes sense for Lee, and if he starts out hot then move him up to St Paul. The ceiling for this kid is very high, and barring any unforseen problems I could see him up in Majors by 2024. He is a legit bigtime prospect and as far as Parada goes I in no way trade Lee for him, we have catching, and I am not sold on Parada making it to the Majors as quickly as Lee. The Twins are finally loaded with quality infield prospects that could give them a very good infield in 2 or 3 years.
  7. I like Lopez and his 2 yrs of control. If things don't work we can move him at deadline in yr 2 for prospects as we' will need to restock minors. Marlins get; Kepler Arraez Ober, or maybe our 2nd rnd pick in this years draft. Twins get; Lopez
  8. I love this deal as it stands, sign him and lets move on. The Twins gave him the end of year physical and it didn't stop them from offering 8 years earlier this offseason, all I'm hearing now is coulds and maybe's. If he should be good for at least 3 to 4 years as some here are speculating, then that works perfect for the bridge to Lee and Lewis. Maybe we move to Correa to third by then and it will be less stress on ankle.
  9. I agree Correa definitely knows, and if he doesn't Boras for sure does. I'm in the camp that believes in giving him the same type of contract as before, only increase the pay. How about 5 yrs $175 mil with opt outs after yr 3. That gives him top dollar(35 per), and guarentees the Twins 3 Yrs to bridge us til Lee, Lewis hopefully.
  10. At what point did the thought of not using Polanco to fill some time at SS when necessary happen? I know, I know, his defensive numbers at short aren't the best, but I'm only talking about filling in when needed. We have options at SS if it's only to get us to either Lewis or Lee, and if Polanco has to play short then Arraez plays 2b. There aren't anymore Correa's out there folks, so lets stop throwing prospects away for stop gap crap. Sign Eovaldi and a RP, and if you want then buy a right handed stick, but enough of these crap SS.
  11. At this point other then Eovaldi I'd say forget the FA's and look to the youngsters. Julien looks ready for a real shot this spring, we don't need to wait until these guys are all in there mid 20's before getting called up. Play these guys and lets see what we really have, and unless one is clearly struggling lets stop the up and down b.s. If we must then look for a trade to bring in pitching, the Marlins and Tampa are usually willing traders.
  12. The problem here is there really are no "Aces" left to go after in FA, so if thats what we want then we need to trade for one. Rodon isn't Johan Santana guys, he's really only had a couple years with big numbers so signing him is risky in my opinion, go get Eovaldi. We can win with a rotation of #2 and #3 starters, spend the money on bullpen and and a right handed stick, and look for a stiopgap SS to get us to Lewis/Lee. We can always move Polanco back to SS and platoon 2B.
  13. why not 5 yrs. 200 mil ? It makes him the highest paid per year at 40 mil. and is only for 5 yrs in case something goes wrong, i.e. injury or just not performing. It would laso not be an albatros contract that couldn't be moved at the deadline if wanted. I in no way want to offer a 10 yr deal, that makes no sense, we have youngsters who could replace him by then.
  14. I'm of the opinion that the Twins need new coaching, the current staff just isn't getting it done. Rocco and company have had enough time to show they're stuff and what they've shown us isn't worth keeping. How about allowing a starter to go longer then 4 or 5 innings? How about trying to manufacture runs in a close game instead of waiting for homeruns? I guess bunting and hit and runs are a thing of the past in baseball. It is definitly hard to watch stranding baserunners inning after inning in close games waiting for 3 run homers when we just need a damn run. I understand all the injuries but this is getting just plain hard to watch.
  15. I don't think most here are saying it's a bad idea to shut Buxton down if that is whats necessary, but lets wait and see what his medicals call for. I also believe that if he can play threw the pain without risking further injury then yes, he should play. Simply put, these guys " ARE " paid to play, and being only 2 or 3 back in this division doesn't make winning it unthinkable. Also, what makes you think they'll be drastically better next season? I see a ton of potential but no guarentees that our pitching will improve or our hitting will get any better. I believe you play to win this season until they are out of contention. All of this wait til next year stuff and we become the Vikings.
