I'm not saying you fall into this category, but feels like with some fans it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.... I personally don't want to wait out every prospect into oblivion without building a here and now competitive major league team. You can only ever make decisions based on the current situation and I think these were the right moves for both short-term and long-term, regardless of what happens.

Count me among the group that is occasionally frustrated/confused by his decision making... That being said I don't think you can make any decision about his future until we see how this season ends up... There's still a very good chance we make the playoffs and if we do hard to say he doesn't deserve at least another year

Completely agree. Even without being results oriented, these were good moves based on our needs. No matter how the season turns out, the combination of a weak division and the reality that anything is possible in the playoffs made these moves necessary and you got to give credit for them doing what needs to be done.

Twins Acquire Tyler Mahle from Reds

I don't understand people bemoaning what we gave up in this trade. In general the front office is attacked by the fan base for not being aggressive enough but when they make an aggressive necessary move people freak out about who we gave up. In general our major league lineup is quite young and quite good. We don't have a pressing need for bats. Our rotation is a different story.. I love both trades today despite what we gave up. -
Good lord people are pessimistic. We're obviously a far from perfect team but, despite dealing with a rash of key injuries all season long, we're in first place nearly halfway into the season. Theres been some painful losses this year too but compared to just one year ago this season has been infinitely more fun and I see plenty of reasons for some optimism that we can squeeze into the playoffs and have another crack at snapping that horrendous streak.

Minnesota’s Second Coming of Rod Carew
Markdumont25 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Haha bothered me too. And there's nothing wrong with comparing them...we all understand the difference between a Hall of famer and a 4 year player but Luis has been around long enough now that it's clear this isn't a fluke. He's done enough to invite preliminary comparison. The only question now is how high is his ceiling and how long he can keep it up. Also, I think his popularity with the fan base debunks the myth that baseball is only interesting when lots of home runs are being hit.- 46 replies

I hope Arraez is a lifelong Twin. Obviously a very talented player but, more importantly, he's so easy to root for and I feel like he brings eyeballs to the TV and the stadium. He's occasionally suggested is trade bait but he's my favorite player and I can't be the only one... I hope he's around for a while.

All seems fair to me. Gordon is a useful player but we have too many MLB caliber players in the organization to justify him anymore.

Fair enough. And obviously if you truly believe there's danger then a baseball game isn't worth it. I can only offer my view/perspective as someone that is in the city pretty much 100% of the time (and around Target Field specifically) and hope it eases some concerns...and in my view these concerns are grossly exaggerated. We all love our Twins, and if you're on the fence, my pure, honest advice from one Twins fan to the other is don't let safety be the reason you don't go and I'm happy to help anyone find a safe parking spot/route to the park if they need it.

I said that if you actually live here the idea that ppl would be scared to come here is for a few hours is laughable. Nothing you pointed out changes that. The riots (a full year ago now) and the media reports may affect the perception of safety but my whole point is that the perception some ppl have does not equal reality. I acknowledged crime is up. And yet I'm still here and so are tens of thousands of others, and we all aren't being murdered or robbed blind. I'm sorry but Im a fan and I want to see people coming to games and safety reasons are such a misguided reason not to, imo.
-
As someone who actually lives in the city (roughly a mile from Target Field), the comments on downtown crime being a factor are frustrating. Is it worse than it was 3 years ago? Yea. But I spend sooo much time in the area around Target Field and the idea someone would avoid a game and supporting your team because of safety concerns is eye-roll inducing. You have a much higher chance getting in a car accident on the way there than being a victim of a crime in the 4 hours you're in the city to see a game. Sadly I think it probably is a factor but it shouldn't be...do some shadowboxing, get your courage up and come support the team.

Let's Cut Miguel Sanó Some Slack
Markdumont25 replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yesterday is a perfect microcosm of what this article is about...He hit 2 balls about as hard as you can hit them yesterday....right at people. I don't want to go overboard in defending Sano because he is often a very frustrating player but last night was not a great example for those of you arguing he is hopeless. And sitting him and prolonging his "warming up" period seems like a terrible idea. If you're not gonna straight up get rid of him (another bad idea imo, at least for now) then you need to just let him play through it.
