    I remember in '84, still not a very good team, but there were signs -- a Gaetti here, a Puckett there, Hrbek. You could see some pieces coming together. When they score runs in bunches on the road, hit the ball up gaps, a three-run dinger that is way gone. That's when you know a corner is about to be turned.

    It should be mentioned that the Twins' "strategy" for the season was either flawed or non-existant. Sure, there have been a lot of injuries and lack of production from both veterans and rookies, but, at the end of the day, their off-season strategic thinking has been at the heart of their miserable season. Chief among them: Plouffe vs Sano at 3B, the outfield, Bullpen, signing Park, how to advance rookies. There is not a lot of brilliance emanating from the Twins FO these days. And certainly, as always, no accountability. No accountability at the top means no way to enforce it anywhere else.

    Stewart throws a heavy ball, isn't that it? Lots of ground balls, very few HRs. That's repeatable.

    They didn't like the return for Plouffe in the off-season, gave him 7M, and never really considered the possibility that his value would DECLINE. Well it has because next year he's at 10M. There's nothing to be done. He's injury prone, below average hitter, who is overpaid. They played their hand poorly and are now stuck.

    Main thing is: Plouffe is a $7 M player right now, and going to be more next year. Writing is on the wall. He will not be given an offer by the Twins. That's wasted inventory in a major way. Hard to understand how the Twins FO became so feckless about roster construction.

    Trade him already. Somehow the Twins value their assets so far above the market assessment. So far that they are the worst team in the league. Think about it... the Twins can't trade their young talent because they are on the verge of being so good. And, they can't trade their veterans because they are the glue that holds the team together and won't get fair market value. Meanwhile, the Twins and their players, young or old, are just plain lousy. Hello? No one values the Twins players because they are on a lousy team and underperform and aren't worth anything -- in Plouffe's case, $7M, is a lot of clams. Trade him for a bag of fries. Anything!

    Another baseball season comes to this: looking at MiLB box scores late, hoping for a small ray of hope that this torment of ineptitude will find a tourniquet. And, not finding it.

    Just once, I would like a Twins highly-touted prospect to come up and play really well in MLB. Come to think of it, both Sano and Rosario did that last year, Santana and Vargas the year before, maybe even Escobar. Okay, I would like someone to sustain their level of production. Or, have Berrios or Buxton or Kepler simply go off and shine. Twins, can't catch a break, a prospect or a solid veteran. Nothing is working on any cylinders.

    I was hoping we could hold them to seven. It's like the 12 days of Christmas. 9 game losing streak, 8 games blown, 7 first inning runs, 6 lousy starts, 5 dumb base running mistakes, 4 stupid manager decisions, three rookies fail, two catchers wasting, and a lost season in 2016.

    Meyer is with Dick Cheney at an undisclosed location. And also in the FBI secret identity program. He is slated to come back as 6' 9" starting MLB pitcher with a 95 mph heater and a nasty curve ball, that he throws for strikes. You know, build some value so he can be traded for a backup CF.

    Well, there's always the minor league reports. Thank you TD for that. On the other hand, the ML Twins are horrible at this point. In fact, it's all about the Minor Leagues at this point. Potential salvation.

    Super-subs can and should play everywhere. Super-sized clean up hitters should play defense at only one position: First Base. Twins are really acting like dummies on this one. You know something bad is going to happen.

    Do not discount the possibility the Twins get Nolasco a few more starts and then trade him. I certainly would. If you can get a MLB team to take on that contract, do it. Sure, he looks good now, but he's doing it with sliders and curve balls. Once MLB hitters wise up to that, or his arm gets a little tired from all the torque, he will fall back to earth. Look, if you had said to any of us in February: Nolasco will throw three great games to start the season, would anyone not have taken than in a heartbeat as a chance to get rid of him?

    Hard to see and appreciate the positives of an 0 and 9 start, but Mauer has to be one of them. Escobar another one, except for defense. And then, there's the starting pitching and runs allowed overall. It didn't help that the Twins started on the road at, arguably, the two best AL teams. Or that Chicago started hot. It is what it is, but a OBP machine in the middle of the lineup is exactly what is needed to produce scoring opportunities.

    I was going to say, "Did the Twins revamp his delivery or something?" Any news of changes in his repetoire? What happened? Twins look loaded with young arms in upper minors. If their young hitters ever come around, they could be a perennial contender, for a few years.

    I think he is done, at 33. Can't light up the radar gun. Not much movement. Sure the shoulder hurts, but it hurts a lot worse after the game when you blow the save and everyone can see that you are throwing 90 mph fastballs. Twins have no options with him. Either he can throw at 94 and hit his spots or not. If he can't, there's no where to hide him on the roster. So, they DL him and tell him to get his velo up or .... that's the thing, they have no place to go with this. None.

    Twins need to play better. Then again, after sweeping all 7 games against the Birds last year, including four in a row in a miracle series when the Twins were all but given up for dead, can you really expect them to win game after game in Baltimore? Escobar. That's my trend.

    Like the moxie of this prediction, but sincerely doubt MS ever gets there, as excellent as he is at the plate. And I hope I am wrong.

    I haven't seen much discussion about the outfield in the context of who will replace Miguel Sano in the late innings. That's a pretty regular gig in my book, if the Twins are winning. Santana is not a natural RF, but has speed and a good arm. He can learn to do it, but it's not like he is playing much RF at this point. Arcia is a possible late-inning replacement as well, but, let's face it, a year ago we were figuring who would play defense for him in the late innings. Best candidate would have been: Aaron Hicks, now a starting OF with the NY Yankees. Kepler could be that guy, over time, but we want him to play baseball and not sit on the bench waiting for Sano to come off the field. So, it's an issue in my opinion. Twins will figure it out, maybe Maestro makes it after all, but for now, must be Santana, an unnatural corner guy if ever there was one.

    KC has Salvy Perez. St. Louis Yadier Molina. SF Posey. There's different ways to win in MLB, but catching is the glue. Gotta hope this guy has room to grow.
