  1. At what point is this FO going to realize that Kyle Gibson is not a good pitcher? Reminds me of Blackburn at this point. I guess they just see the one good season and ignore the other awful ones.
  2. Seriously. Even if he threw a perfect strike to home there, it still wouldn't have been a close play.
  3. Who could've guessed that our bullpen would give up runs?
  4. Ah yes, those illusive players who hit close to .300 with 30+ home runs. I believe they are sometimes known as Mike Trouts.
  5. If you want to call Santiago a 3/4 or a 3, thats fine but the point still stands. Santana, Santiago, Hughes and a garbage bullpen aren't the kind of pitching staff that you can count on to make a strong playoff push. Could it happen? Yeah, certainly. Stranger things have happened plenty. But If you're looking at our pitching staff and thinking, "these are serious world series contenders," then you've lost your mind. Edit: Basically my entire point was our pitchers who are pitching well are very likely to regress, at which point we have a horrible pitching staff + Ervin Santana and a few middle of the rotation guys, at best. I would not want this team to be a buyer at the deadline, as that is basically selling your future for the tiny chance of catching lightning in a bottle. That is a bad trade off in my book.
  6. Serious contenders have lots of good pitching. We have Ervin Santana, who is a good pitcher but not nearly as good as he has been so far this season. And then after that we have Santiago, who is not that good of a pitcher and not as good as he has been so far this season. They will regress. I expect Santana will level out as a solid #2/3 type of guy, as he has been. And Santiago will likely level out to a 4/5 guy, as he has been. Beyond that, we have jack **** for pitching on our current team. Teams with Ervin Santana as their ace, Santiago as their #2, Phil Hughes as their #3 and a nightmare of a bullpen don't go far in the playoffs, if they even make the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, we have a lot of things to be happy and excited about, but it would be a huge mistake in my opinion for this team to convince themselves they're serious contenders and not be sellers at the deadline.
  7. You've been giving this same, "they're looking to contend next year" spiel for like 4 years now. Unless you think they're going to sign/trade for like 6 quality pitchers in the offseason, I'm not sure how you expect that to pan out. The only pitcher on our current roster who is above average is Ervin Santana.
  8. It must be nice being a fan of a team that has more than 1 pitcher on the entire staff who is above average.
  9. Don't forget about Shohei Otani, who may be coming to the MLB in 2018. Granted, I don't really expect us to be in play on him, but if we're going to discuss the possibility of really opening up that checkbook, he's definitely worth including in the conversation.
  10. Yeah, I agree, though I really would like to see some velocity, even if he is getting mashed around. Thats definitely my biggest concern with Hughes is that he's going to be getting a bunch of starts tossing 90mph BP.
  11. 5IP, 6 hits, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 3 HR I wasn't paying a ton of attention, but I don't recall seeing any pitches above 91mph, and unless I'm mistaken, the Hammond field gun has been high by a MPH or two the last few years. So, he looked about how everyone besides the FO expected, I'd say. And Baltimore didn't exactly have their A squad out there by any means.
  12. The "bro crush" is because we have people like Hughes/Santiago/Gibson who are likely to be 3/5 of our starting rotation and its certainly not unreasonable to assume he could've had a more positive impact on this Twins team than any of them. Or any of the number of AAAA players I'm sure we're going to have to watch get starts this season.
  13. If Phil Hughes pitches more than 50 innings this year with an ERA under 5, I will eat my own hat. I'd say there is a much better chance he never starts another game again in his career, orif he does, he's going to be throwing 88 and getting mashed. Counting on Hughes to produce at all is foolish. Sure, you let him try out in spring training, and we all hope his velocity is back and he's feeling good, but if the Twins are going into the season planning for him to be a part of this years rotation, thats a huge mistake.
  14. If Bert quits and they replace him with either Morris or Smalley, I'm going to cry.
  15. Hopefully Molitor pulls a Nishioka after this season and quits from the shame of his epic failure. Then we don't have to worry about whether or not Pohlad really meant it when he said Molitor is our manager for next season.
  16. I'm sure he's just ready for hockey to start. At least the Wild will get our hopes up for a decent chunk of the season. Edit: Also, I have to give credit to LaPanta for constantly looking like he's hammered, so we can never tell when he actually is.
  17. And rightfully so. At this point, it's hard to imagine Molitor has any supporters left.
  18. Damnit. I was hoping to see a video of Tom Hannemann losing it on live TV and storming off.
  19. I hate to say it, but not like I have anything better to do than watch the Twins.
