Getting a #1 starter once they have reached that status is almost impossible unless they reach free agency and you want to pay 30+ million per year. Luzardo and Cabrera both have ace potential and are on the block. Them reaching that potential is not guaranteed, but as a small market club, these are the type of trades the Twins need to make!

Profar is one of most versatile players in MLB and a former #1 overall prospect. Very underrated, and would help any team. I wonder how much he’s holding out for?

Kirilloff reaching his ceiling would be enormous for the Twins future! Like Buxton (who has the ability to be the best player in baseball) it’s really hard to imagine him stringing multiple 140 game seasons together! His upside is enormous and he’s a championship player if he reaches it!

I agree with you totally. Wacha is a respected veteran, with a history of postseason success, knows how to pitch, and had a nice turnaround last year. Sign him to a one year deal and hope he has a solid season, and then trade him at the deadline if they are out of contention. Anything over a 1 year deal is out of the question though.

The Twins have no chance to win a World Series this year, and I personally don’t care about anything else! The starting rotation needs retooling. With the exception of Joe Ryan, I don’t see any foundational pieces in the organization outside of MAYBE Prielipp and Woods-Richardson if they can harness their potential and avoid injury. Ideally, Gray, Maeda, and Mahle pitch well enough this season so as to fetch some prospects at the deadline! We have a top 5 pick coming in the draft and 3 in the top 50, and we need to target pitching with at least two of those picks. Unless we can get a young controllable pitcher with a high upside for a package that doesn’t include Lee, Lewis, or Arraez, I say we stand pat and use this as a year to evaluate the future and build the minor league system.

Arraez is a DH who can fill in at just about every position. He’s not an ideal DH, but I’ll take him there especially at the current price! I love the idea of a future infield that has Brooks Lee at 3rd, Correa at SS, and Royce Lewis at 2nd! Why is Lewis not talked about more as a 2B option? I would also love to see Martin reach his potential as a gold glove left fielder, who bats lead off with a .400 obp and steals 30+ bases. I’m dreaming a bit here but it is possible!

Having spoken out against Lopez…sign me up for the Lopez/Sanchez for Polanco/ Kepler trade. Both Polanco and Kepler have most likely peaked, Sanchez still has upside (possibly as a lights out closer), and assuming he keeps eating up innings, Lopez will have nice value at the deadline.

Alcantara is one of the most valuable players in baseball before you consider his team friendly contract and years of control. That offer would probably end all discussions with the Marlins for a couple of years!

Agreed! Lopez was a Cy Young candidate in April and May and then fell off a cliff. He is a slightly above average innings eater IMO who will get paid $20 million + per year in a couple years. With where the Twins are now, the goal should be to land the high upside group in the Marlins organization. Luzardo, Perez, and Cabrera all fit that category.

Seems everyone is undervaluing Cabrera in these scenarios. I don’t think they’re looking to trade him and his 4 years of team control. I see him as a potential ace, and Alcantara and him are real close friends. Those two could be the best 1-2 in a couple years. I have no interest in Lopez and his two years of control until he get way overpaid! I’m going Eury Perez. Perez for Kepler and Larnach would be my initial offer.

I don’t see Correa being worth that contract in 5 years! These contracts are insane, and I thought teams had learned their lessons since the A-Rod, Cano, Pujols type contracts worked out so poorly in the long run. Maybe the teams are betting on Argentina type inflation? The Twins should start the youth movement this season, and sign players to short contracts that can be flipped for prospects at the deadline.
