  1. Hey Seth, fun to read your report, but one little thing - if you want people reading this to know what actually happened on that Pelfrey play, you may want to describe it a bit more - nowhere is it actually mentioned that he threw his glove. Fortunately the video was on mlb.com, but I had no idea what was going on from the description above (which isn't just on you, but has a lot to do with Pelfrey and Molitor giving talk-a-lot-say-nothing quotes.)
  2. My next thought on hearing the Maddon-Rays news, after the first thought of "obviously! go get him!", was that if Friedman's departure prompted Maddon to opt out of his contract, would he really want to go work for Ryan, not nearly as analytical a GM by reputation and perhaps a less savvy one overall? Apparently, Maddon's opt-out was only triggered when Friedman left the Rays organization, but Maddon claims he "didn't even know" of the clause in his contract. I'm skeptical, but it does seem like the emerging story is about Maddon deciding to explore his options because he could, perhaps follow the money elsewhere once the Rays org went into flux, and less about choosing to leave the Rays because Friedman was gone. That's the only interpretation that gives me hope that Maddon could be interested in the Twins job.
  3. Getting Adam as the trade return at first glance looks a bit like getting Gilmartin for Doumit last offseason. A pitching prospect who's fallen off the map a bit and could be tweaked or coached back closer to his upside. Since Gilmartin is doing decently this year I'm interested to see the results of this one too.
  4. I didn't know until yesterday about that unusual clause in Lackey's contract that triggered an extra year on his deal for $500,000 because he had Tommy John surgery. Gotta say, I'm kind of stumped that the Red Sox traded him, considering that they seem as likely to reload for next year as to rebuild from the ground.
  5. Apologies if this is a redundant post since I didn't read through the entire middle of this thread, but on the new site just as on the old I'm getting some of the sidebar ads automatically playing sound, either little split-second chunks or full extended sections. Kind of a nuisance at any time and especially not good for anyone reading the site at work (not that I'd ever do that...)
  6. Definitely would be interested in Jurrjens as a risk/reward flyer at the right price, Karstens as rotation filler and Torres as a veteran backup.
