Over the weekend, I got to enjoy a couple GCL games of the GCL Minnesota Twins and GCL Boston Red Sox. Best part of these games are the closeness to the action you can get as well as VIPs lurking around. This weekend, Top Scout Mike Ratcliff was seen timing and evaluating the new talent. The following links are Youtube Videos that I took over the weekend of the prospects. The following are the pitching lines and charts for the 6/26/15 game, followed by video on Travis Blankenhorn, Trey Cabbage, Kerby Camacho, Lean Marrero, Brian Olson as well as pitcher Callan Pearce The Twins ended up losing the game 6-1 but the bullpen performed well. The following day, Saturday morning I caught the Red Sox vs Twins on Field One at the Twins' Centurylink Sports Complex. Williams Ramirez started the game off and went a strong 4 innings. Here the the pitcher's stat lines and pitch counts followed by video at bat compilation of Travis Blankenhorn, Trey Cabbage, Lewin Diaz, Roberto Gonzalez, and Bryant Hayman as well Rich Condeelis and Andrew Vasquez Here is the pitcher's stat line and pitch count: The Twins ended up losing Satuday's game 3-2 and was quite a pitcher's duel for the most part.

Video link compilations of Trey Cabbage and Travis Blankenhorn's AB on 6/26/15 GCL game. Poulson looked good on the mound showing off the best control of his FB to date (and I've seen him throw 7 times this year already in EXST and GCL). In the field, Cabbage had a few errors/mental gaffes, missing a tag at 3B when there was a force play there and a couple of low throws to 1B. In Cabbage's defense, Blankenhorn will not be confused with a Gold Glover at 1B either. Roberto Gonzalez got in the game and had the couple of scouts in attendance keeping notes and a watchful eye, namely Twins' scout Mike Radcliff. Thanks Mike for letting me pick his brain on team building and scouting.

Alright as an Illini alum and former player under Hartleb (he was the asst. coach at Illinois under Itch Jones) I'll come to their defense on using Jay as a Super-reliever. Hartleb used him like teams used to use their best relievers back in the day ala Mike Marshall style (google him kids), as Coach Dan had a three starting pitchers that were taken in the MLB draft (Kevin Duchene, Rob McDonnell, Drasen Johnson). Hartleb's philosophy paid off as the Illini had their best season in team history. Ty Jay is good enough to start, but was insanely valuable as a reliever as he could throw in multiple games a week instead of just once.

Article: Twins Sign, Introduce Tyler Jay

Anyone have any specific questions they'd like to have Tyler Jay respond to? I'll try to get him to answer on video/audio when I see him, I do have a "little-in" from former Coach Hartleb as well as being an Illini alum -

Exactly, worse case scenario, it looks like you have a shutdown lefty power arm in the pen. Best case, you have a #2 LHSP. I'd take that anyday. I'm hoping to catch up to him this weekend in Ft. Myers, I've heard he should be around as the HighA All-Star game is 6/19 in Port St. Lucie, and the Miracle don't play again til Monday 6/22 which is at home. -
Article: What's The Best Plan For Tyler Jay?
Bob Sacamento replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I luckily got to see both pitch this season, Fulmer with Vandy early in the season against Indiana State and Jay with the Illini against Fordham and FGCU. I'd take Jay any day over Fulmer. Jay got the win in one game, faced two batters and struck them both out on a total of 8 pitches. Next day Jay threw 4 1/3 IP in relief (71 pitches), the velocity held from beginning to end and the control didn't waiver. I can't say the same for Carson Fulmer who didn't look as good, his velocity dropped a tick into the 4th/5th inning. Honestly was expecting him to clean up with Indiana State. Fulmer's delivery/mechanics/etc scare me especially if you think you can keep him as a starting pitcher. -
Exactly, high ankle sprains are far worse than lower (normal) ankle sprains and take longer to heal due to the force they constantly take and blood supply. But in general, sprains are worse than strains in that they take longer to heal due to less blood supply to ligaments.

Reporting from Fort Myers, FL Complex, Levi Michael batted leadoff and played second base against the Red Sox. In his first at bat, he flew out to LF, in his second at bat he grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, in his third at bat he grounded out to second baseman, and his final at bat he walked. He worked counts all day like he usually does. His ankle didn't appear to be a 100% on the bases or with lateral movement in the field, but seemed close, still stiff upon appearance.

Article: Official Twins Daily Day 3 Draft Thread
Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Any bonus over 100K after the 10th round gets added to the draft pool. So if you sign a guy in the 25th rd for 1.1M, 1M counts against your draft pool meaning you'd have to have saved close 1M in your first 10 rounds. Also if a team hits five percent over their bonus pool they will have to forfeit a future first round pick in addition to a 75% tax on the overage amount. If they are over but not at five percent over, they would just have to pay the 75% tax. -

Scouting Report on Kolton Kendrick: Last summer, Kendrick looked like a nice addition to Southeast Louisiana's recruiting class, but little more. His body was softer than scouts would have liked and his pull-heavy, sellout-for-power approach didn't impress, which explained why he wasn't selected to go to the East Coast Pro showcase. He slimmed down and added strength with a CrossFit regime and retooled his swing with a hitting coach, turning himself into a significantly better prospect this spring. Kendrick's power is his calling card. It's top-of-the-scale 80 raw power that has paid off in some epic home runs this spring. He's shown increased fluidity in his lefthanded swing and has shown that he can drive the ball to the opposite field and get solid swings against lefthanders. His hit tool will determine his value. Scouts who like him think he could make enough consistent contact to let his power play. Others still see some stiffness and length to his swing and believe he'll struggle to unlock his power. He a below-average first baseman, albeit with an average arm that let him play some third base in high school. He runs well for his size, but is still a below-average runner who will likely slow as he matures. If it all comes together, he's a potential home run champ thanks to his best-in-the-class power. But he's a boom-or-bust type in the mold of 2006 Braves first-rounder Cody Johnson, who flamed out in Double-A

Scouting Report on Jovani Moran It is a good year for pitching in Puerto Rico, with Alexis Omar Diaz and Moran leading the way. Listed at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, Moran has a lanky, projectable frame. He throws his fastball from a high three-quarters angle at 88-90 mph and locates it well thanks to his smooth, easy delivery. His breaking ball is a bit slurvy now, but as he gets stronger he should be able to throw it with true slider shape. Moran is a South Florida recruit, with a backup commitment to Broward (Fla.) CC.

Scouting Report on Chris Paul: Golden Bears products such as Allen Craig and Josh Satin were good senior signs with somewhat similar profiles to that of Paul, who was Cal's toughest out in Pacific-12 Conference play. The Laguna Beach, Calif., prep product had his best season and has solid athleticism and good-enough (if below-average) speed for a move to left field. He’s a sure-handed defender at first with solid-average power who has learned to temper his aggressive offensive approach just enough.
