Luis Arraez’s Value Goes Beyond Excellent On-Field Performance
Murph commented on Adam Friedman's blog entry in Adam Friedman
According to ABC Sports, the last time a BATTING CHAMPION was traded in the off-season was in 1978. That time, the TWINS traded Rod Carew to the Angels for 4 players - none of whom had substantial careers. Trading Arraez was a huge mistake. It's hard to believe Arraez's value (at 1B, 2B and at the plate) was not valued. The Twins have made one stupid decision after another. Trading for a pitcher who was 10/10 last year and 28/31 all-time was ridiculous. His ERA is almost 4. Any small amount of faith I had in "falvine" is now gone. -
Maybe the Twins should consider trading Polanco. Arraez plays a good 2nd base. Turns the DP as well as anyone. And he can play other places on the field (not sure he really should have been in the "top 10" at first base, but that's where he played, the most, in '22). We love Polanco, but his value is less than the value of Arraez.

Andrew Heaney is the Best the Twins Can Do
Murph replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Essentially, Andrew Heaney is another failed left handed pitcher. Perfect for the Twins. He fits right into their wheelhouse. (There's nothing new under the sun.)- 34 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
Murph replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think I have it in me to place my hopes in the Twins again becoming a Major League contender. They don't have the front office for it. They've proved it year after year after year... They will not do what it takes to give their team a fighting chance against the East and the West. Picking up cast-offs from other teams has proven to be folly, and the training ground in their minor league system is unremarkable. Correa and Buxton are team leaders - on the field and in the clubhouse. Losing Correa will be costly all the way around. For the remainder of the 2023 post-season: "Anybody but the NYY."- 87 replies

VIDEO: Jhoan Duran: Twins Daily's 2022 Rookie of the Year
Murph replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We met Duran, by chance, in the driveway of the home home he rented during the season. He is a very nice young man with a powerful arm and engaging smile. We HOPE the Twins can hang onto this rock-solid reliever. WHY he wasn't the "closer" is a mystery. (Maybe it's because we picked up a Lopez, who like most of the Twins' pick-ups, was "injured" or "past his prime.") -

Short Starts Are Not a Minnesota Twins Thing

Well - then the Pohlads shouldn't own a Major League Baseball team. (Believe me, the Pohlads can afford it.) Maybe we shouldn't have a major league franchise here.- 86 replies

Short Starts Are Not a Minnesota Twins Thing
Murph replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pohlad's "strategy" is to keep the team payroll at the league average. They want to be good enough to "compete" (put butts in the seats), but not be good enough to win championships. I'm sure this list is inconclusive: Trevor Megill, Juan Minaya, Devon Smeltzer, Danny Coulombe, Joe Smith, Chi Chi Gonzales, Jhon Romero, Ralph Garza Jr, Chris Archer, Yennier Cano, Jharel Cotton, Jovani Moran, Cole Sands, Tyler Thornberg, Austin Davis, Brad Peacock, Emilio Pagán.- 86 replies

VIDEO: Luis Arraez Should Have Bunted
Murph replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rocco makes bad decisions in every game... The Twins don't bunt. (Do they even have a batting coach?) And he has "a bunch" of pitchers he sends to the mound for ONE inning, until he runs out of pitchers. And, as for the FO - why do we keep picking up cast-offs who, as often as not, aren't even healthy? Bring on 2023. 2022 is toast. -
This is It For Miguel Sano: What Now?
Murph replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Do you feel good about this cruel comment? After you stick the knife in, turn it a few times... Interesting how some players get a "pass" and some just get crushed by comments such as yours.- 34 replies

The White Sox have been an undisciplined, reckless, out-of-control team ever since LaRussa became their manager. The "acting manager" is incapable of controlling this team, as we saw last night. Both HBP incidents in the 9th could easily have been avoided, and we all know it. The CWS hitters both "took it for the team." To think our pitcher would intentionally hit a batter, with bases loaded, to get to their best hitter is insanity. Their whole team (bullpen and all) rushing our mound reflects the makeup of today's CWS.

What's Behind Arraez's August Struggles?
Murph replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Simple. He's "swinging up" instead of "swinging through." It plagues most hitters who have experienced a few home runs. Too bad. He's best when he connects, hits for average (the best in baseball!) and simply gets on base. His ability to start the ball rolling has been remarkable. Avoid the temptation. Keep looking for the open spots and connect! Swing through! You've proven you're better at that than most everyone who steps up to the plate! -
This is It For Miguel Sano: What Now?
Murph replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thank you, @Heiny. You are right on every point. I hope Sanó gets another chance. He's only 29, and has mega talent, for sure. The Twins didn't have a decent hitting coach, and still don't. He was physically and emotionally lost when Cruz departed. It's sad, really...- 34 replies

I hope Sanó can spend more time with Cruz... That relationship remains very important to Miguel. There's no "Minnesota nice" where Miguel is concerned. Maybe the fans shouldn't affect a player, but these guys are human beings. Miguel is a wonderful human being. Over & out...

Hoping Jorge Lopez doesn't turn out to be another reclamation project. He's having a very successful season with numbers that don't line up to his past performance. So... here's hoping. The Twins are paying him $1.5 Million - so he's a typical low-risk choice for the Twins.

It Don't Sano in July
Murph commented on Dave The Dastardly's blog entry in Dave The Dastardly's Blog
Garlick is not helping the Twins. The Twins need pitching. A month ago, I might have said BULLPEN pitching. Now, I'll just say pitching. We saw Sanó play in St. Paul earlier last week. Sanó is not, by a long shot, the Twins' biggest problem. He smashed 2 HR in the game we saw, and hit 2 more balls on the ground in the game we saw. No K's. Maybe the FO needs to get their eyes off the computer and watch the players on the field. JUST MAYBE. -
Byron Buxton is the best center fielder on the planet
Murph replied to cHawk's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
We are huge BUXTON fans, but he needs to stop trying to lift the ball at the plate. He needs to hit the ball where it's pitched. Some singles and doubles would help. Defensively - right! There is none better. -
Emilio Pagán Doesn't Need to Be the Next Alex Colomé
Murph replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He already is! He's a bust. Twins need to cut their losses. -
"Twins LETTING Cleveland win all these games may backfire????" FALVINE in their infinite wisdom need to get their noses out of their computers and open their eyes - AND Rocco needs to do the same!!! WE NEED A BULLPEN. I'm sure the players are more than a little discouraged when they are in or near the last inning and the Bullpen blows the lead. Pagán and Thornburg are DONE. WHY are the Twins picking up pitchers NOBODY else wants? Bring some KIDS from St. Paul onto the relief staff. Cut your losses. The Twins relievers have been TRAINED to pitch only one inning. Neither Jax nor Thielbar could've pitched because they EACH pitched ONE inning the day before? That's ridiculous. And when Duffey comes in and strikes out 4 of 5 hitters he faces, WHY take him out for the 9th?? It's tough being a Twins fan. No amount of offense is enough! The Twins' hitting is more than enough to win these games. The BULLPEN gave up the lead at the end of ALL FIVE CLEVELAND games! I wonder if Jim Pohlad even WATCHES what's going on from his new penthouse atop The Gateway! #BullpenBlues

Can the Twins (realistically) make a trade for Nelson Cruz?
