  1. That's such a good point. What's the worst thing that can happen if they fire Gardy and realize later the replacement is worse? We lose 94 games? 93? The change in leadership needs to be about breathing new life into the organization - it's gotten far too stale for far too long.
  2. I really don't know how the team could stand pat again with this same group of leadership. It's a terrible message to send to your fanbase, even if you think it's just a token move and Gardy has no blame, you almost have to do it just from a public relations standpoint.
  3. It is, but I don't see how we can get significantly better when we're absolutely awful at a critical phase of the game. We may have to seriously consider trading a guy like Arcia. (Which I would be pretty sad to see, I'm a big fan of his offensive game)
  4. This issue is the number one reason I don't expect this team to sniff contention for at least two more seasons. Buxton will help a lot, but the other big positional addition is a guy with some defensive question marks as well. Assuming we can help transform these guys into competent defenders, it's going to take time.
  5. Exactly, if your best defense for keeping the guy is basically to conclude his position is irrelevant....why do you care if he's replaced?
  6. "Looking clueless" sounds like the kind of token nonsense you use for a symbolic firing. It's certainly a pretty silly "cause" to line up behind.
  7. I was also under the impression that Molitor wanted to stay home. I'm not sure the charge that no one else has hired him is a fair point in that light.
  8. Good thing for him other teams don't take the approach with their managers that countries do with their kings. Wait......Gardy has no sons right?
  9. Then no manager should be fired ever because they are completely dependent on everyone else on the team to do their job. Nothing they do is an independent, measurable action that results in wins or losses. Essentially, your position amounts to the title manager being a meaningless symbol of organization that is unassailably worthless.
  10. So he's widely popular for the same reasons that you're touting Dougie. Dougie's AA results as a manager don't mean much to me good or bad given the huge number of factors that go into managing there as opposed to the big leagues. Frankly, his won-loss record there matters less to me than how players develop as they stay with him. So far that's a positive trend as well, so in my eyes Molitor and Dougie would both make fine choices.
  11. Whose arguing that the sole reason to change managers is to win more games? This is the same tired scarecrow this topic gets into every time. Do I hope it could result in more wins? Sure. But the reason to move on is more symbolic - so can we be done with this and drop that line of questioning?
  12. Hopefully people remember that next year when they want to project Vargas, Santana, Escobar, and Trevor May to all roughly hit like David Ortiz and pitch like Clayton Kershaw. Last year we had people stumping hard about how amazing Arcia was going to be this year and utterly ignored that rebuilds take time not just to get prospects to the big leagues, but to get them adjusted and thriving in the big leagues. Start tempering your expectations hard for some of these guys and hope they exceed them. But good god let's not spend another offseason putting these kids on goofy projections. Realism about rebuilds is twofold and many of those that preach patience on the level of guys getting to the big leagues are the first to rush projections once they get there.
  13. I know this much....if this staff is retained, the Twins can talk until they're blue in the face about not being "tone deaf".... But actions speak WAY louder than words. And they have for quite some time now. I like Gardy, I don't think he's a "bad" manager. His time, however, has come and gone for quite awhile now.
  14. Absolves them of an absurd survey question ripe for mockery. You know, the kind of stuff a segment of a show that mocks absurdity relishes having gifted to them. St. Peter's mind-boggling response was icing on the cake.
  15. Except they didn't ignore it. They responded like that straight man in a comedy sketch. Either way, the Twins paid for that third party and put their name on their work. I hardly see how that absolves of them of putting out a comically lame survey.
  16. Or they could have avoided sending out a stupid survey question that could have just as easily asked "How badly do we deserve to be made fun of for this inane attempt at cleverness?" Genuine survey questions to gauge the fan base is something all of us would understand. What they're being mocked for is nothing of the sort.
  17. Congratulations, you're apparently the only one who feels that way. I love how the kid is still opening up to punish pitches. The hands are just going to expand the zone in which he can do serious damage. Awesome to see from the Twins' coaching staff.
  18. Stop gaps are fine too, but not addressing it at all is what cannot happen. However, until "played at" Double A represents a better indication of readiness I'm not going to plan on them being slotted into this team's plans. And neither should the team.
  19. The month of August was a very nice step forward for him. He's an awful defender, but his bat is improving. People set the bar too high for a second year player with some contact concerns - he's coming around and getting better. That's why it's so damn crucial for people to temper their expectations with young players.
  20. Time to start getting both of them playing those positions then. Like, yesterday.
  21. There are two outfield spots to fill and the top of the rotation still needs help. I'd say those are some mighty big holes to fill. Any expectation and Buxton and Sano are there to help is hope talking, not logic. I'm ok with hoping they have an impact next year, but the roster should be addressed by logic, not hope.
  22. Given that there is a confidence concern there is a chance that a months worth of MLB experience could undermine any positives of the last two months. That's my concern at least.
  23. The Twins should be in the market for a 15-20M dollar player, even if it takes a 7-10 year deal to do it. They can afford it and have set themselves up with staggered contracts to be able to afford it. Frankly, if they don't match the effort last year, it will be a serious step backward for the Front Office IMO.
  24. I don't think you can really look at this issue without laying out where regression is likely to take hold. So, from my perspective: Likely increases in production: 1B, RF, DH, SP (as a whole, but probably a marginal increase) Likely decreases in production: SS, CF, C, RP Likely similar: LF, 2B, 3B So, if I were the Twins I'd be concentrating on places to bring that production up. To do that I'd start by moving Santana to SS and looking for one placeholder OF and one permanent fixture OF. I'd also get into talks with a guy like Shields and try to land him. I'd trust that 3B and CF (in two years) will be boosted by our young studs. I wouldn't, however, start convincing myself we're about to contend. Some of these positions are tied up largely by the name in the spot and not the reasonable expectations for production. Just because the corner is looking turned doesn't mean the team is going to play any better. Young kids need time to struggle and adjust. (See: Arcia) Just be patient.
