  1. What the Twins really need is for Buxton, Sano, and Berrios to become the super stars that we were hoping they would become. Can we even call them stars?? How many All Star games have the the three of them been in?? And yet we're already talking about them becoming free agents!!! Every very good team needs a few superstars surrounded by good players, who are the Twins superstars?? If two out of the three would emerge as truly great players, then you could build around them, make a big trade or two, but at this point is just a 'poke and hope'. Hope that they emerge so the other moves the front office makes pans out.
  2. Disapointing to hear of Donaldsons injury, especially when you hear 'he has a history of calf injuries'. Where were the Twins trainers?? They should have been on top of that and working with him every day. And then there the often injured Buxton. Its a head shaker. At some point it has to more than just 'bad luck'. I hope the Twins don't give up any top prospects in a trade, MLB is only one or two Covid breakouts from having to cancel their already shortened season.
  3. The list seems short of true defensive centerfielders, who is in line to come up when Buxton hurts himself by trying to run thru a wall again?
  4. Looking at your 2019 list, where is Luis Arráez?? How can he make it to the big league team and not even be ranked?? Who will be the 2020 surprise??
  5. These are the types of informative articles that I like on Twins Daily and the reason that I log in. Thanks!!! Keep it up!!!!
  6. I like the way the new regime will put an injured player on the injured list right away and bring up a replacement player. It used to drive me crazy when they'd have an injured player sitting on the bench, wouldn't put in on the IR list, but then Gardy would complain about being shorthanded. A head shaker...
  7. I liked this line from the original article by Seth: And keep an eye on the phone, always looking to make a big addition in July… or June… or May! Jump in and make a trade in late May or June before teams start to get desperate at the trade deadline, forcing the price up. I think they do need to add more pitching before spring training, with the poor starting pitching, the bullpen is going to get wore down.
  8. I agree with you, I think it will be a three team race, but you scare me when you say that a healthy Buxton is what it will take to be really good. When was the last time Buxton had a full healthy season??
  9. Good article!!!! Reading the comments is also interesting, it summarizes the continual debate here on TD, go all in, trade prospects, sign big $ free agents, gotta have that World Series vs. trying to build for continual success. Its actually getting kind of amusing. It goes round and round....
  10. You make a good point, they have yet to prove that they can stay competitive for the next 8 years but so far I really like what Falvine has done, upgrading the farm system, coaches, showing us a 100 win season, etc. We'll have to revisit this issue in eight years. I will also say that getting one big buck pitcher doesn't guarantee that the Twins would be in the world series, which is what a lot of the posters here on TD think. The older I get the more I realize that slow and steady will win a lot of races. Stay competitive, make the playoffs, excite and draw lots of fans, generating lots of revenue, helping you stay competitive, and hope that you catch that lighting in a bottle and win a few playoff series --- works for me.
  11. The Twins are a lot more fun to follow when the are competitive, have a >.500 record, than when they are 23 games out of first place. I'd rather see them be competitive 8 out of 10 years vs pushing all their chips in, signing 1-2 big buck free agents or making big trades, maybe making the World Series -- and then having a string of 5-6 sub .500 years. If they keep a young competitive core, sign an occasional free agent (can you say Nelson Cruz!!!), stay above .500, they'll keep me happy.
  12. You are correct, until baseball implements a salary cap, the big boys - the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, etc. are always going to have an advantage, a very big advantage. If the Twins blow it on a free agent, pick the wrong one, he gets hurt, etc, the Twins are hamstrung for years. The big boys just go sign another one.
  13. In this day in age, after other players have been suspended for taking PEDS masking drugs, ballplayers should be smart enough to check with the team before they take ANY drugs stronger than aspirin. Good signing from a team standpoint, they need pitching but I'm still PO'd at him for getting suspended when the Twins really needed him.
  14. I wonder how the info 'leaks' out on the amount that that the Twins offered Wheeler?? Or how accurate the info really is??!
  15. The key to game one is Berrios. I think the Twins will score 4-5 runs against the Yanks but can Berrios hold them to five runs?? Good Berrios, Twins win. Bad Berrios, Twins lose.
  16. Where did Arraez rank as a prospect in TD off-season prospect list??
  17. This says it all. Its all in BB's head. He hasn't figured it out that he more help to the Twins on the field then he is on the DL. He's a terror on the base paths, he's starting to figure out the hitting so he gets on base more, that combo of offense combined with very good defense could make him a perennial all-star for years to come, and one of the Twins most valuable players. Instead he has it in his head that he has to get to every ball, regardless of the injury risk. I'd like to insert some choice terms here but you get the drift. Posters say BB is what he is because of the aggressive play. They are correct but which is more valuable to the Twins (and better for BB's career) 60 games a year of super aggressive play and 100 games on the DL or 140 games of good offense/base running/and above average defense?? The kind of defense that very few can play but doesn't result in wall crashing/diving/running into other players??? BB, save the hi-light reel plays for the last out of the World Series and help the Twins get to the WS by staying healthy. Is that too much to ask?
  18. I'm curious where Twins Daily had Arraez ranked in their minor league player rankings before the season started??
  19. The Kinks - (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman Superman, superman, wish I could fly like superman Superman, superman, want to be like superman I want to be like superman Superman, superman, wish I could fly like superman ------------------------ This song always pops into my when I hear that Buxton is going on the injury list - again - because of running into something - a wall, the ground, another player, after awhile you realize it isn't just an unfortunate accident. Its Byron not thinking. Problem is that the 1) the Twins are a better team with him in the lineup. Save the spectacular play for the last out in the World Series. Otherwise play smarter, realize that you're not superman, that you are a human with breakable parts. You can't tell me that he couldn't play hard and still be a good defensive center, without the stupid contact. 2) He's going to play himself right out of the league with injuries. How many concussions can a body take before he has to call it quits. Look no further than Joe Mauer. Concussions forced him away from catcher and lingered through out his career. When Buxton does play himself out of the league with injuries I know I won't feel sorry for him. Falvine and Baldeli need to spout the party line "thats his style of play" but I wish someone like Tori Hunter would take him aside and say "listen kid, you're being stupid, play hard but play smart" -- only in stronger terms.
  20. I don't love the deal but I like it a lot, trade someone who is rule 5 eligible this winter, trade a guy while he is playing good and is valuable, get back a veteran usable reliever and two prospects, whats not to like about the deal?? One of my pet peeves on the Twins has been when they bring some guy up for a cup of coffee, he does poorly, and they trade him for nothing or release him -- think Oswaldo Arcia. At least with Diaz they trade him before they lose him or he proves that he isn't capable.
