  1. Chris posted this on a baseball blog. We are reading and commenting on this baseball blog. Does it really need to be said that all prospects can bust? Is there anyone reading this article that doesn't know all minor leaguers might not make it to the bigs? What substance does adding floor:bust at the end of each write up add to the article? We are truly blessed to have this kind of talent in the system. While some are disappointed in Gordon's year or Buxton's showing in the show, I'm not. They are young and developing. Any job takes time to get used. I'mean 30 and I'm still learning on the job.
  2. Isn't this obvious? Does it really need to be said? Did anyone read this article really not know that any minor leaguer's floor could be not making it out of the minor leagues?
  3. I have no idea how what you just wrote has anything to do with Nick's post about Buxton historically starting slow. You ignored that whole part and just focused on the last word. Comparing Buxton to Vargas /Sano only using OPS is kind of unfair dont you think? If we compare Buxton to Vargas/Sano using only defensive value the tables would obviously be turned. Sano/Vargas bring pure power while Buxton brings a better overall package. An elite overall package at that. I dont understand how so many people around here have soured on Buxton over a few at bats in the bigs. This is why we cant have nice things.
  4. Padres haven't done anything yet....something big is coming. Hopefully for the Twins.
  5. Shields? Can't see it. A 37 year old RPer with solid numbers? Definitely seems like someone TR would trade for.
  6. Am I the only person interested in trading for paps and slotting him in the 8th right before Perks? It sounds like a lot of his price tag has fallen.
  7. You do know every prospect hits their ceiling right? Our 25 man roster is going to be nuts! Can't you imagine ABW hitting 40+ HRs....from the bench!
  8. ESPN (insider) has an article up trying to figure out which team could help their playoff hunt with a move using the following method: To get an idea of which teams have the highest-leverage wins remaining, I instructed ZiPS to simulate the rest of the season a million times to get up-to-date playoff odds for each team. Then, I repeated the exercise 60 times, each time adding one or two wins to a team's bottom line to see how the change affected the playoff odds. By doing this, we can more easily see which teams have the most to gain from a big-name addition. Incidentally, these playoff odds include the Kazmir trade, boosting the Astros' playoff probability by 7 percentage points from Thursday morning. With one move the article suggests the Twins could increase their chance of making it into the playoffs by 7.2% (4th highest change percent). I have never been much of a ZiPS person but it is interesting. I understand not wanting to trade prospects for rentals but for long term help when there is no current answer in the farm? That I can't understand. http://espn.go.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/13312117/teams-most-gain-trade-deadline
  9. I'm glad someone brought up the Capps trade seeing that's the only truly interesting thing the Twins have done at a trade deadline in years. I expect them to move minor parts for other minor parts and call it a day. Same old same old. At least it gives us something to debate instead of working.
  10. So which college relief pitcher are they drafting at 73? If they draft like they have the past few years you know more are coming. Already got 1!
  11. The fact that when you go from pitching 1-2 innings a game to 6-9 innings a game your stuff typically diminishes in some way. Just because he has a plus to plus-plus fastball as a RPer doesn't mean he will have a plus to plus-plus fastball as a starter.
  12. Turned off the TV after the pick. Just don't see it. Hopefully I'm wrong....
  13. The last two years we have known who the pick will be. Definitely not like that this year. Should be fun! Hoping for it to be one of the SS, tucker, or Tate.
  14. Would it be ideal to have Sano play 3rd? Definitely! Is it a deal breaker if he has to play DH? Definitely not! If we have to move Vargas and/or Arcia so Sano can get every day bats that's cool with me.
  15. I'm warming up to some of the potential twins targets. If the Twins walk away with one of Rodgers, Swanson, Tate, Allard, or Bregman I would be pretty excited. I would also be OK with Aiken, tucker, or Cameron but I have them behind the first 5.
  16. Use more than half your draft picks on college relief pitchers the last three years. Bring up a 28 year old relief pitcher when a spot opens. Twins logic.
  17. This is why I don't pay attention to spring training. The twins will always end up with a very "twins like" veteran heavy team over actual talent.
  18. While you suggest people put to much importance into first round picks I could easily suggest to much importance is put into close to the majors talent. Historical first round picks, especially top 5 picks, not only have a significantly higher chance to make it to the bigs but to also be impact players. Personally when evaluating prospects I like to use all the information I have available to rank them. This is a prospect list and not just a whom will help next year list. (P.S. hopefully this didn't come of as an attack. Everyone grades prospects differently which is part of the fun.)
  19. Outside of moving Polanco behind Rosario I have the same top 10. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one still on the Stewart bandwagon. If he can stay healthy I just don't see a pitcher with better overall package. Nice list.
  20. To me this feels like Nolasco 2.0. Just can't get excited about the possibility of signing a 32 year old for 4-5 years unless he is an ace.
  21. Molly as the manager, Hunter in RF, Liriano to the mound, Pat in the pen and Baker on a minor league deal. Sounds like a TR off season. I could see it. I'm sure some around here would like it but gross.
  22. When did the Twins become the Dodgers or Yankees and money didn't matter? They mentioned before the off season that they didn't see the payroll increasing much from last year. Signing a player for $10.5M is a big deal financially. Here comes a reclamation quality pitcher.
  23. Needs: Upgrade OF defense Top of the rotation pitching What we do: Sign a player who negatively affects both our needs. Who cares about helping the team win when you can sell more tickets?!?! I just started my 2015 draft boards but I guess I better start looking into the 2016 draft also.
  24. Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Not a thing to be excited about.
  25. Why not use the depth of our farm system AND our extra money to trade for and extend someone? I don't believe anyone is suggesting trading multiple assets for a one year rental if the Twins don't plan on extending them.
