Always look forward to everything you write Nick, cause it’s always great. Thanks! Its nitpicking, but I sure hope Dobnak is used as a starter only. Also see Kirilloff as their full time first baseman with Sanó as a backup and DH. will be surprised if more than 5 of the 60-day guys are kept following the deadline.

Can Twins Fans Handle Another Pitch to Contact Starter?
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good article about Stroman, Cody. Have one comment, however. Who says he is "one of Minnesota's top free agent targets?" Lots of people out here think he should be. But do the Twins? As far as I know, no one has actually talked to the FO and gotten a list of who they are going after. Perhaps it would be better if you said "one of the top free agent targets, whom the Twins should be interested in." Or maybe, may be interested in. -
Good to see Sisk have a clean week. If I recall previous reports, he has struggled to date.

Not going to speculate what the final deal can/should be. That is something for the FO and Buxton/his agent to decide. What I will say however, is get it done. I don't see how the Twins can begin preparations for next year until the Buxton question is answered. On the other hand, don't have a clue what/if the CBA negotiations will mean to signing him. Hopefully, they are talking as I type this and we will have an announcement...soon!

What a great interview with an exciting young man. Is the sky the limit for this kid? Thanks Seth. -
The Twins Also Need More From Left Field
roger replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes they do. I often cringe when reading that the Twins are loaded with prospects for the corner outfield positions. I always think, who? Yes, Larnach should still be viewed as a top prospect. And Kirilloff isn't a corner outfielder, rather, their first baseman for 2022, 2023 and beyond. Who else is a top corner outfield prospect? Rooker, no. Wallner, maybe. Martin, well he is a shortstop, first, and centerfielder second. Who else? Maybe one of the young Latin kids signed the last couple years, but they are a long ways away. So lets start by keeping Max Kepler and let him work with the new hitting coach. Maybe someone interested in anything other than home runs will get Max to make the adjustments that will make him the hitter he will become if traded.- 13 replies

A Rockies Free Agent for the Twins
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting Ted. Would you put him in the same/level or group as Pineda for the Twins? If they sign one, wouldn't go after the other? Or could they go after both and have them lead the staff in 2022, assuming there is a season? Add a cheaper veteran to hold down a third spot until Maeda returns and let all the kids battle it out for the last two. -
2021 Minnesota Twins Minor League All Stars
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for bringing us this report, Seth. Find it interesting that there is a real chance that all three of the outfielders could be out of the Twins system within the next five weeks, Contreras in the Rule 5 and the other two as MiLB free agents. After Miranda, the position player I am most excited to watch the next few years is Julien. Kid sure as heck stood up and made us take notice with his play in his first professional season. He sure could end up being special. The biggest surprise to me was that Winder wasn't a unanimous choice for one of the four starting pitchers. Watched several of his starts at Wichita and no one was pitching any better than this young man before he wore down late in the year.- 11 replies

3 Potential Twins Breakout Prospects in 2022
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Miranda's season was flat out unbelievable. When talking about who to expect to have that type of move next year, my question is that it may be more likely the answer is no one. Who was the last player to have a break-out year similar to what Miranda had last year? I don't remember anyone, but then my memory ain't what it used to be. Have a feeling Miranda's type of break-out are few, very few. If there is going to be one, my bet would be that jmlease may have hit the best candidate, Cavaco. He's someone who has all the tools in the world and hasn't gotten it done on the field, yet. Another similar candidate could be Javier, should he still be in the Twins organization next year.- 31 replies

Houston and Minnesota Both Made Drafting Mistakes
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Assume he was a college player, but that is fast. I always think back to Robin Yount of the Brewers. He was a high school kid who I believe played for them a year after being drafted. Keep hoping the Twins will get someone like that one year. Maybe Noah Miller??? -
Houston and Minnesota Both Made Drafting Mistakes
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very interesting. Yet, the only real advantage was 2015 when they took Bregman and the Twins dropped the ball by taking Jay. What is surprising to me is: 1) Bregman was taken that recent? Seems like he has been a star in the middle of their lineup for that long; and 2) Considering they made nearly as many mistakes as the Twins, the fact they are in the World Series indicates there is a lot more to baseball than doing well in the first round or two of the draft....much, much more. -
Lessons From Atlanta: If You Have A Shot, Take It
roger replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Baseball has probably the lowest level of success for players drafted in any/all positions, thus, huge failures of even the highest picks are common. The good news is that, 1) he was a college player, not high school who are much younger and a greater risk; 2) he came out of the toughest conference (SEC) in which to be successful; and 3) he wasn't drafted by the Twins, who admittedly have made some blunders with their high picks the last decade or two or three. But getting someone who was #5 overall is a huge get as I see it. Throw in SWR who was playing in AA ball as a 20-year old and the trade looks awfully good, in my ole eyes. Granted, neither may ever play an inning for the Twins, but considering both are already successful at AA one making it as a solid regular has a higher likelihood of happening.- 49 replies

Twins AFL Report - Week 3: All Wallner Does is Hit Home Runs
roger replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for the report, Steve. And isn't it great that there still is some baseball for a handful of Twins to be playing. Of the group in the AFL this year, Wallner is the only one who most consider a top prospect. So it is great that he is having some success. As for the others, it is a chance to get noticed. Maybe another coach/scout will see something they like and one will get picked in the Rule 5 draft. In other cases, maybe one will take a step forward and use it as a stepping stone to a bigger 2022. In any case, Steve, it is great reading about actual baseball...thanks.- 9 replies

I'll go one better, Nick. I foresee Rortvedt as the Twins starting catcher beginning in 2023. His bat will improve and be ok, while his defense is so much better than either of the other two he will become the #1 guy. Biggest question is which of the two he shares the catcher spot with? Will also second those comments who want Kepler to stay in right, which is automatic after they extend Buxton. As for pitching, signing Pineda as the free agent and another trade like the Odorizzi or Maeda trades works for me.

Lessons From Atlanta: If You Have A Shot, Take It
roger replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We have to assume, and yes I know that can be dangerous, that the Twins believed that: 1) Berrios was not signing an extension and would test free agency after 2022; and 2) They will have the same chance of signing him then whether he was a Twin or Blue Jay. With that assumption and the fact this year was 100% in the crapper, trading Jose made sense. So then the question is whether or not they got the best return they could expect. Considering the griping I read from Toronto, sounds like they did. Whenever anyone discusses both prospects, we must remember that Martin was drafted (was it #5 overall?), sat on his butt last summer, then began his professional career in AA. And SWR is only 20 years old and also at AA, something unheard of in the Twins organization. Add that prior to joining the Twins, SWR had not appeared in a game for what, two months, it makes sense that they were very careful with his usage the last month of Wichita's season.- 49 replies

Checking in on the Twins 2021 Draft Class: Part 2
roger commented on Andrew Mahlke's blog entry in Mahlk
Twins seemed to focus on college pitching throughout this draft. Makes sense seeing their current need. I know all drafts are a crap shoot, but wouldn’t it be great if two or three of this year’s class actually played up to their ceiling? -
Absolutely love this kid and envision him as the Twins lead off hitter for years. And if he were put at second and left there, his D will be ok. Unfortunately, Polanco is and should stay their second baseman. great article and discussion. I have joined the camp who believe a trade maybe best for him and the Twins, assuming they get a good return. if not, he will be the backup at second and third with lots of games as DH. He should never be seen again in the outfield,

Twins Prospects Certain To Be 40-Man Roster Adds
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Would be interesting to see Baddoo's numbers against everyone excluding the Twins. Got a feeling it doesn't jump off the page. Would be real concerned the Twins would lose Enlow if he isn't protected. With his high ceiling, expect he may be the 5th player added later next month. He had his surgery early this year, right? If so, he could be back pitching by mid-summer?- 9 replies
