  1. Correia unfairly got a lot of hate from Twins fans, he was in fact the best SP the Twins had in 2013 and in 2014 other than a bad stretch he was "ok" as a #5 as well. He handled himself with class, never complained and went out every 5 days and more often then not gave the Twins a chance to win (Assuming they didn't have a bad offense) I'm not a Dodgers fan at all, but part of me would like to see Butera (another guy who got a lot of unjustified hate by Twins fans) and Correia succeed in the playoffs.
  2. Oh yeah, great work Seth! Way to scoop the Minnesota media on this one! Hopefully first of many , hopefully they all give you credit as well
  3. I mean in most cases they would have the guy up the game before regardless, just so he could get "used" to the big lights, settled in, get a good nights sleep etc before his first major league start the following night. I think you are reading to much into it, I don't think the A's hitters are exactly prepping for a rookie making his first start today (as they face Gibson) and they would have known by tomorrow morning regardless (as May would not have been in Rochester tonight)
  4. Kinda hard not to considering his results this year have been ugly and hasn't been in the rotation for some time. Ideally he gets healthy again and gives us yet another arm we can hopefully count on. I mentioned it before, but with those 7: Hughes, Gibson, Meyer, May, Milone, Nolasco, Pino, (Wild card on Pelfrey as #8) the good news is the Twins shouldn't have to dip into free agency to fill in the rotation, however I would like to see them potentially look at one of the "ace types" on the market, but there is no need to spend money on middle of the rotation types, and zero reason whatsover to get back end types. That frees up the money/time/resources to fill in some of the other holes next year (corner OF bat, SS?) etc
  5. Nolasco is a guy who you didn't include who I think has an excellent chance to rebound, now Nolasco will never be mistaken for an ACE, but when healthy I think he has proven to be a reliable middle of the rotation guy. Toss in a guy like Pino who has pitched like a solid #5 so far and you suddenly have 7 realistic SP options heading into the 2015 season. 8 if you include a possible bounce back from Pelfrey, and that doesn't even include a guy like Berrios.
  6. Yeah the BB% is an issue, especially when you are on a very very strict pitch count. Having a guy in your rotation who will struggle to make it over 5 or so IP each time out is bad news for your team/bullpen. Sorta reminds me of Joba's issues when he came up as a starter for the Yankees, electric stuff but was at 100 pitches in the 5th/6th way too often. Not saying Meyer will have that issue, but it is worth noting, while we are all very anxious for him to get here, the guy has top of the rotation type potential, so if the wait is a little longer I can live with that. Anyways, I stand by what I said, the plan that was conveyed to me back in May/June was that he would be up right after the deadline, I guess just like everything else in life some things change. I'm not sure this whole thread needs to be hijacked.
  7. I don't think Pino deserves to get optioned, he has been pitching pretty solid overall in the rotation and IMHO deserves to hold down a back of the rotation spot until he deserves to lose it. Hopefully he can keep up a 4.00-4.30 ERA the rest of the way this year that allows the Twins to have another solid option for 2015 if they need. I'd much rather they toss Correia on waivers and get rid of him for a PTBNL even if they have to toss in some cash. I know Pino is a bit of a lightning rod around here, but it would be prudent for the Twins to figure out if he could stick as a cheap #5 for a couple years.
  8. Very excited to see May get the call! However we should all probably temper our expectations a bit, even if he does struggle it is a good thing to get him the innings for the 2015 on forward.
  9. Meyer didn't pitch himself into the rotation yet and Nick did a good job illustrating. It was his for the taking after the deadline (keeping Correia didn't help either).
  10. see: His disastrous 2014 in the majors? I don't mind the Twins taking a little extra time with him in AA, no need to rush him for a third time IMO, additionally, since he has gone back to switch hitting, perhaps he has been working a lot with the AA hitting coach and still has a ways to go? Most importantly I think getting Hicks confidence might be the most important part of bringing him back, let him mash AA for a couple more weeks to get that. The fact he is now hitting both RHP and LHP at good clips is very very very encouraging.
  11. Schafer should get about 10-15 starts in CF to see what he has for the Twins, if he falls on his face you bring up Hicks, if he does well, then maybe you wait until Sept to bring Hicks back up IMO. I agree, Santana needs to be playing SS.
  12. I think Santana's future with the team is at SS personally. With the question marks in the OF, I would think the Twins will take a pretty hard run at Torii Hunter to hold down one of the corner OF spots, which I would be a big fan of. I guess they could always make a run at a Melky Cabrera type, but I am guessing they would have to give him 3-4 years. Hopefully Hunter would be willing to come back to Minnesota for a year or two.
  13. I think the Outfield sometime in June ends up being: Hicks-Buxton-Arcia, with the possibility of Hicks or Arcia being in AAA and having a veteran or a guy like Plouffe handling the other position. TBH Hicks-Buxton-Arcia would be a pretty awesome OF defense.
  14. The Kevin Correia contract is far from a "bad one" in fact many like myself would argue that he has actually earned that money.
  15. I give it an A just because I didn't expect any of Willingham correia etc combined to bring back as much value as milone has himself. Also love the Suzuki signing. We can trade Willingham and correia for a PTBNL worst case scenario in Aug. Maybe we should hold onto dueling for another year as well....guy has been pretty lights out this year.
  16. If he does it probably means he is hitting like he is this year, which is fine by me. Though that also means pinto never stepped up to be at least a part time catcher which makes me a sad panda.
  17. 6 million a year for two years is pretty damn minimal, especially when you consider how low the twins payroll is currently and moving forward, even more when you consider we are about to have our best prospect class in a decade all up in the next year and a half. Even more when you consider that outside of an Ace type pitcher and SS that C is by far the weakest position this org has. Even if Suzuki bombs which I find highly highly unlikely, it's all good, he will literally represent 5-7.5% of the payroll during his time here. Conversely this move could be a real steal for the twins, just like the milone trade! Terry did it once with prospects (Mauer, cuddyer, Morneau, hunter, dougie, koskie etc) and shrewd trades....he can do it again!!!
  18. As a fan of the Mariners (2nd fav team) I am not sure I like this deal for the M's or the Rays. Franklin has a ton of potential, and while I like Jackson he isn't some stud IMO. The Rays get back a pretty solid potential SS and a guy who is a meh back of the rotation pitcher. Seems really odd, especially with the Rays on a 20-4 run.
  19. Yeah, I think the Yankees are still a prime potential spot for Willingham, I am guessing they were going after better players and couldn't bring em in.
  20. There has to be more to it. That would be a really terrible haul for Price.
