  1. How bad is Pinto's defense? All I am aware of is that Perkins did not like pitching to him. How can it be so bad that he would not be considered for a b/u spot for next year? History has shown what too many games in one season can do to Suzuki; he is human. If they catch him more that 100 games I think they are asking for trouble. Keep Pinto as #2 and a RH pinch hitter. I don't understand if it is between somebody like Friar or Hermann and Pinto, how does Pinto not get the nod?
  2. Jharaldson made a great point above about Joe managing the messaging surrounding any injuries. This is a place where I feel the Twins and Joe's management team have failed him. Mauer is not paid to be a speaker. It might be nice if he had a little more flare but I will take boring with a career OBP of .400 any day. The team and his representation should have better helped him speak to the press; this is part of their function. Customer service 101: very clearly give your clients the message you want them to hear or they will make up their own version. We see that happen here. Also, the local press and their bashing is especially sad because I feel they know better. They are just doing it to be shocking to their audience and that sells commercials. Phil Mackey seems to rise above this (Thank you!) and here is an awesome article he wrote a few years ago. http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Mackey_OBP_is_more_important_than_HRs_and_Joe_Mauer_is_king_of_OBP092012
  3. Did I read that Sulbraran did not pass the shuttle drill and needed to step up conditioning? It raises concern if a player comes in badly out of shape. Was there any chatter on that?
  4. Per the time he was removed from TJ I feel he was ok. His control should be better this year and I expect we will see good stuff. Regarding the hype, I think people on this site were more or less level-headed about it. The mainstream media was much more hyped. They have to hype up something.
  5. It will be interesting to see if you post on this again. Your point is made. You don't dig their content and that is crystal clear.
  6. BTW I thought it was pretty classy that the second comment on this came from Bonnes who was one of the two people you slammed in your rant.
  7. Whether I agree or not does not matter. I am 100+ episodes into this "circus" and there is no quiting now! What may ruin things is when the team wins again. Will the formula work with a winning ball club? I hope we can find out soon.
  8. Did you say specifically how many years you could look for in the contracts? I am guessing you would go 2 years for kazmir and one each for Volquez and Johnson. What I like there is that Volquez and Johnson, if they do well, could be attractive at the trade deadline. The team could get great return (think Sulbaran) on investments in them. And, if they go then you have people like Diamond and Worley at AAA who have hopefully figured out some things by then.
  9. I am swallowing a fish hook here? Head hitting desk.
  10. I am of the opinion that Mauer could play any position on the field and I think you are reaching a lot. He is 30 and it takes time to learn new positions. Also, we have the #s 1 and 3 prospects in the world on the way at those two spots so there is no reason.
  11. Even if this were true, this suggestion misses what needs to be the point. Where is the highest return on making room for Arcia? Replacing somebody who has under performed in the first 13 games is off base. Making room for somebody who may have earned a promotion and at the same time getting young talent to help in the future are what is important. Arcia could be in LF if Willingham is traded and he could be in RF is Mourneau is traded and Parmalee goes to first. Parmalee is doing just fine in RF and I think he should stay in the line up. This will be exciting to watch unfold as the season continues.
  12. Good call on revisiting Wimmers. Word was that he had gotten past many control issue before his injury. Lets hope that he can recover properly and find control again. Also, this will be a big year for the college relievers that we drafted last spring and are trying to convert to starters. Hopefully some of them pan out.
  13. I hope that "contract extention" means trading him before the deadline for prospects and putting Parmalee into the 1B/DH position full time. I hope Morneau has a monster first half so his value is as high as it can possibly be and he is fun to watch hit.
