You nailed exactly my thoughts as well. Need to consistently apply performance standards. This should be the make or break year for Falvine/Rocco - but I have an uneasy feeling this won't be the case. And if so, then what are the performance standards for the organization? Intangibles rather than wins/losses? Given the costs to attend a game have increased significantly, expectations increase as well.

What Would a Twins Rebuild Look Like?
sjunisu replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would much rather have a roster that looks like what you published here than what this FO has trotted out the last 2 yrs. I am done with signings like Gallo, Shoemaker, Happ, Colome, Bundy, Archer, and the constant and numerous retreads Falvine has trotted out from the waiver wire that have provided absolutely nothing to build upon. At least this would allow the organization to determine exactly what we have in the pipeline and provide some further prospects if the trades proposed would occur - as this team is nowhere close to serious contention. Ability to give a final grade on the FO ability to create and form a minor league pipeline. Let the leather meet the road. -
The Twins Know They Need Pitching, Right?
sjunisu replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The answer is simple - $$$. We have yet to lose out on a player where we were the high bidder. End of story. When we become the high bidder, then we will sign free agents.- 70 replies

That’s it. I’m pretty much done with this front office.
sjunisu replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The "Well what you do" line is tired and a cop out. This duo has done nothing that a semi-well informed person couldn't have done in regards to drafting, trading, and FA acquisitions. And have utterly failed on the 'training' front given our rash of injuries. Outside of the Cruz/Ryan trade, they have nothing to hang their hat on. Personally I would be happy to answer a question like this when Joe Pohlad is willing to give me Falvey's contract. Until then, most people don't work for free. -
We the fan base must be Oliver Twist in this nightmare - "Please sir, may we have more...." More of the same talent development, drafting, trading, and FA signings.......

"Stepping Back" Isn't an Option
sjunisu replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have not posted on this site in over a year as my criticism of the FO was often met with distain (certainly there were some who were also critical, but a smaller percentage than the cheerleaders for sure). Beast points it out perfectly. Interesting to see the tenor of the site has changed dramatically in 1 yr - despite this FO having the same stripes as previous years. Falvine is the same today as they were one year ago, 3 years ago, and 5 yrs ago. They have yet to show a compentcy in any significant aspect of a FO - Trading, Developing Talent, Drafting, or Signing FA. Gallo and whomever else follows is just more of the same.- 58 replies

What the Hell Are the Twins Doing with Byron Buxton?
sjunisu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The easy answer is to simply watch the actions of Pohlad and the FO (especially the curent one, but past ones as well), not listen to the words. If we simply do that, over the course of the last 2+ decades you will see an organization whose total focus is to maximize cash flow/profits. If they stumble into winning along the way to profit maximization then that is a bonus. This is the one thing the organization can lay claim to as their area of expertise - not free agent acquisition, not player development, not international signing, and not drafting new talent. Maximizing profit/cashflow which is what this ownership has always wanted. -
Let me help you a little bit with understanding my post. 1 Time out of 24 they have 'splurged'. 11 times they have spent just 'average'. And 12 times they have gone less than their revenue rank - which I would define as CHEAP. If they would go as many times over their rank as under, then at best you could call them average - which is simply not the case. Seems you also interchange average/mean with median rankings. League average is skewed higher due to some really high spenders. I have not specifically done the math, but 10-15% less than average may be higher that the median which would be 15. If I can afford to buy a Honda, but routinely get a POS Dodge then most people, especially my family would call me CHEAP.

Yes the Twins have now ONCE ponnied up for a real FA (Donaldson) and yet there was debate whether he was the right player to do this with (and the debate still rages on). I would not personally hang my hat on a team and FO that has accomplished a simple feat such as this once. As for 2022 - not sure I would call our chances 'excellent' unless the team/FO miraculously triple the number of of real FA they have signed to 3 from the current 1. I for one will believe it when I see it given past history. Too many times have I been fooled to fall for this again. As for Pohlads being cheap - over the last 20-25 yrs how many time have the Twins been in the top third of payroll vs the bottom third of payroll? Here is the breakdown of Twins payroll rank since 1998: Top 1/3 - 1. Middle 1/3 - 11 (most frequently 18/19). 20th or less - 12 (bottom 4 a total of 4 times) Not sure what your definition of low/cheap is, but the above figures certainly fit my definition.

You are mistaking jealously and insecurity for anger and frustration. The Vikings are an absolte basketcase and have been for years (which is unfortunate as they have owners who are willing to spend money and appear to be fans of the game). The Wild and Wolves have owners that are clueless on how to win in their respective sports (although the Wild hiring GMBG was a strong move and looks like might slowly move them forward). As for the Twins, the owner cares more about yearly cash-flow than any sense of loyalty/responsibility to the fans (and don't get me started with its a business and they need to make money - the massive increase in franchise valuation is where they make their money, as it is with any owner/franchise). I could understand the Pohlads approach if the Twins were their primary business (like when Al Davis owned the Raiders), but the Twins are just a cog in the Pohlad money machine. Unlike other major sports owners, it does not appear that owning the franchise provides them with any real joy or excitement - which honestly shows in the performance and approach of the team over time.

I honestly did not even think this was debatable at this point. We got the use of a 4th outfielder (which are a dime a dozen) for a lottery ticket that looks like cashed big and would certainly look good in our rotation going into 2022. I don't need to be Nostradamus to know the Yankees will have won this trade in the same way they have been dominating our Twins over the last decade - in decisive fashion ?

Maybe we can all form a circle and sing Kumbaya and be thankful our billionaire owner overlords simply let us have the privledge of watching their teams perform while continually giving them more of our tax money. ?

Envisioning a Good Twins Rotation in 2022 (For Real!)
sjunisu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nick - I like your writing and willingness to put out a very public plan, but I do not see this plan as having a 'Good' rotation in 2022. Corey Kluber, Charlie Morton, Alex Cobb, Andrew Heaney at this point in their careers are back-end starters. Same with Pineda. Taillion I would realistically put in th 3/4 range at this point. Dobnak I view more as a fill-in type bouncing between Twins/Saints. Right now I see 2 pitchers for the Twins (Ober and Ryan). I do think they could have 1 more from internal selections you listed as a back-end option at some point next yr (haven't seen any of them yet). But in order to get to 'Good' (heck even average) they are going to have to spend money or trade real assets which the FO has not been willing to do. Two of Stroman/Rodon/Gausman/Ray with our internal options might get us slightly above average next yr. If the two are more like Kluber or Duffy (who I would be fine with as 3/4) leading the charge, then the staff won't even be average. Two of those 4 are going to cost $34-40M and unfortunately the Twins have never spent that on a pitcher (let alone 2). However, if they could get 2 of those 4 (or similar) along with Maeda back in 2023, along with growth from the internal candidates, they would have the makings of a 'Good' staff by 2023 which at this point is the best case scenario.- 92 replies

I tend to agree with you, but our trade history with the Yankees is less than stellar and usually shows the Twins on the losing end of the trade (but the Twins keep going back for more - Please sir, may I have another :))

Let the Learning Commence for Twins Brass
sjunisu replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You are correct - however, it seems to be much easier to get a player to sign with their existing team than come back to a team which traded them. Escobar signed for 3/21 in 2018 which I would definitely rather have at that price than Donaldson at 20M+ per (plus I believe Escobar liked playing here prior and was really good in the clubhouse). Pressley had an additional yr control and signed 2/17.5 plus an option another contract I would definitely take over the likes of Colome. Plus the fact of the matter is none of the trade assets have seen quality time w/ Twins (Alcala has been less than average and Celistino was clearly overmatched what we saw). Point is, the Twins would be better off with both of these players (w/ the FA contracts) and Gil/Ynoa than what we got out of all 4 of those trades. Had those trades never happened, 2022 would be looking a bit brighter right now.- 45 replies

Let the Learning Commence for Twins Brass
sjunisu replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Outstanding post. I will add my additional two cents as well. In addition to poor drafting at the top (Sabato and Cavaco prime examples), we have yet to see the fruits of the Escobar and Pressley trades (which were made some time ago) and both would be useful pieces to this team now (not needed big Donaldson contract, nor Colome). Would be remiss to not also add the 2 trades that are having the biggest impact on next year's Twins (Gil for Cave and Ynoa for 1 game of Garcia). Just imagine if the duo had simply not pulled the trigger on those 2 trades that now look disasterous (would have both and spot in outfield for Wade or Baddoo). Agreed on Chargois and Reed, but Littell looks like could be a real mistake as well. Not having much of anything to show for your pitching prowness after 5yrs at the helm is pretty damning.- 45 replies

Twins 40-Man Roster Crunch? Perhaps Not
sjunisu replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The biggest item I agree with is the dead weight which can trimmed to open up necessary spots for even our borderline prospects. Of your list of 16, there are an easy 8+ that can be opened up (including Cave, Astudillo (a fav of mine), Law, Garlick, Burrows, Vincent, Thorpe, Farrell, and any of the other waiver claims honestly). When we are claiming pitchers from Detroit, you know things are a bit desparate to find the perverbial needle in a haystack.- 63 replies

2022 team is mostly set up at this point
sjunisu commented on Brandon's blog entry in Brandon's Blog
There is no anger in my comment, only an opinion based on the results of this season. The roster you provided has no Berrios, no Cruz, and more than a handful of rookies/unproven prospects. I am only comparing this years squad/performance to the one listed in this thread. The FO can certainly go this route (it is their job not mine) but should come out and state they are entering a full rebuild which would be the honest thing to do. -

sjunisu commented on Brandon's blog entry in Brandon's Blog
If this is the team the Twins would field to start 2022, a 90 loss season would be significantly over-achieving. No offense, but this roster would lose 100 games easily and may challenge for the all-time worst MLB record. -
In Defense of the Twins Front Office
sjunisu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about this as middle ground - I don't think most of the critical posters here (including myself) are demanding the duo be fired this offseason. I personally am willing to give them 1 more season to show significant improvement (this includes being at least a game or two over .500, a rapidly improving rotation and bullpen, position player improvement, managerial decisions, etc...) As I stated in a previous post, this will probably need to include adding at least 1 big bat, and probably 2 pitchers the quality of Berrios (since even with him achoring this staff it was horrible). Then with the prospects acquired as well as in the system already, can backfill other rotation slots, maybe a couple bullpen slots, and a utility slot. I am very skeptical this will occur given the history of this FO and signing higher-end pitchers (maybe the big bat slot will get filled but even that is 50/50). If they follow their 5 yr history and sign below-average starters and hope to fill rest with prospects, they will not meet my original expectation and at that point I will be calling for their removal. Is giving them 6 yrs an acceptable amount of time (certainly is to me)? -

34-37 with the Boomstick leading the heart of the order and Jose leading the rotation. Unfortunately neither of those players are with the team any longer. Now if you are saying the Twins will 1) Sign a starter comparable to Berrios, 2) Sign another starter comparable to Berrios to augment the staff (as with Berrios achoring it was a 34-37 staff), and 3) sign a big time hitter to replace Cruz, then maybe I can see some hope. But history tells me 1 and 2 won't happen and maybe 3 will, but it is by no means certain. -

I would also add in Oakland, Cleveland, and St Louis as best run organizations. That is 5/30 teams. At this point, I would not put the Twins FO in the top 20. -
Five Takeaways for the 2021 Twins
sjunisu replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So you are saying Falvine need 10 years (the 5 they already have, plus another 5 yrs from now) to be judged on how well they are handling the pitching pipeline and staff? I simply do not agree with that length of time - judgement starts now and thru next yr which gives them 6; plenty of time.- 57 replies

Five Takeaways for the 2021 Twins
sjunisu replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is the winning post in this thread. We need to once and for all end the falacy that Falvey is some kind of pitcher whisper. He has been here 5 yrs and identified as many quality pitchers as I have - zero (at a much higher salary I would add). The other fact is there are many folks on here who routinely criticze (and rightfully so) this FO for there inability to evaluate their own talent. There are constantly posts about eliminating dead weight/wood to evaluate what the team has in the wings and these guys routinely tap cast-offs and has-beens instead of our own young talent which has unfortunately sprouted in other organizations periodically (whilst I have yet to see them identify and develop any of these cast-offs).- 57 replies
