Why not package Graterol along with other prospects for a SP with higher upside? Even if there isn't one available right now, there will be during the season. They can still make that trade, but they have one less prospect to do it with. I just don't see how Maeda significantly moves the needle. I already had faith we had enough of a rotation to win the division. I don't think we have the rotation to compete with the Yankees in the playoffs and we still don't.

I'm all for taking risks and making a "win now" move. I just don't see Maeda as someone you start in the playoffs and feel great about. You just feel ok about him as the number 3 or 4 in the playoffs. Not worth it for losing Graterol.

Anyone think Cruz could make it to the HoF? I think if he has a 2020 like the projections say, and another decent year after that, it's possible. He's at 401 HRs...if he manages to have 3 more good years, (probably a stretch), he could get to 500. I think that's probably the only way he definitely gets in. There is the steroid thing, but that doesn't seem to get brought up a lot with him.

Front Page: Can the Twins Fix Royce Lewis’s Swing?
raindog replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's concerning, but the fact that he's 20 years old and has such a good makeup makes me optimistic. Which is basically what the Fangraphs write-up said. I reallllly hope he becomes a good defensive SS, though. We need that. -

Front Page: Twins Non-Tender Cron and Hildenberger
raindog replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Someone watched Moneyball. Just about any MLB player can handle first base. Especially a passable third baseman. Not that he's going to be great there, but he'd be fine. Plus, he has played 223 career innings at 1B. -
I'm all for getting Chapman, and giving up the farm to do it. Don't know why we would trade Buxton to do so. If we want better defense, let's not trade our best defender for it. He's to the point where he's going to start getting expensive, as well, so it doesn't make sense if the A's are trying to shed payroll. The trade would start with Kiriloff AND Lewis and I would absolutely be interested in doing that.

The crazy thing is that he's not even the 8th best player ON HIS TEAM. He ranked EIGHTEENTH on the Twins in WAR according to Fangraphs. I don't care if you aren't that big of a believer in WAR, you can't think it's that off. And if you do, look at the players ahead of him: https://www.fangraphs.com/warleaders.aspx?season=2019&team=8 Do you think he was more valuable then those guys?

We may have had a glut of "SS" prospects but none of them turned out to be a plus defender there. Royce could get better there, but he's not very close to being ready for the majors. If I was in charge, I couldn't stomach another year of Polanco at SS and Arraez at 2B. Arraez doesn't have the traditonal power of a third baseman, but hitting .320+ makes up for that. His arm there isn't ideal, but I think that's probably comes into play less than we think. His range would at least be ok there.
-
I think infield defense needs to be a huge priority this offseason. But I have a different solution for it. Move Arraez to 3B where he actually had a positive UZR in 130 innings. Move Sano to 1B. Polanco to 2B where he goes from a negative defender to likely a plus defender. And aquire a plus defender at SS. Jose Iglesias on a 1 year deal? A trade? I think think if they did this, the defense would improve immensely. And if Buxton's recovery goes well, all of a sudden you have a very good defensive squad all-around.

Y'all. Imagine Matthew Boyd going from Rick Anderson to Wes Johnson. With his stuff, and a legit pitching coach, he's going to be great. Especially if MLB goes back to a normal baseball, which would help with his biggest weakness. Not that we can count on that.

For the love of God, they can make him playoff eligible. Just like Graterol if they want.

I think you are right in general. However, Machado and Harper are special cases. They've hit the market at a young age and should have a great 5 years or so of production. Then you have to deal with the backend of the contract and that's not great. But the goal should be to win a World Series in those 5 years. And that would make it all worth it. The Twins aren't going to sign one, unfortunately. But I think they should. They have the money.

I’m definely excited by the Wes Johnson hire but slightly nervous that the players won’t respect him. I like the outside the box thinking though.

Article: Hardball, the Twins, and Byron Buxton
raindog replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I find it incredibly sad that people want the Twins to jerk Buxton around, considering it's mostly been a lost season due to injury. He plays his ass off. He's got a great attitude. Reward that - don't worry about the Twins maybe having to spend more money to keep him if he ever becomes what we hope. The ONLY people that should be worried about that are the Pohlads. And they have all the money in the world to keep him when that time comes around. -
Nothing to do with him playing through a knee issue? Got a bad feeling about that.
