Right-on...was fun spending nights and weekends watching baseball, getting to know the players better, seeing that team camaradarie and keeping track of the victories. Shame, Shame on the Yankees for spoiling our fun!

If Arraez cannot go come Friday, I expect we will see Astudillo on the roster. I am going out on a "not really that far off the tree" limb to say he will deliver some clutch hits for this team.

Cruz hits #40 of the year and #400 for his career. That, to me, is the coolest moment of the year! Just an overall class act and definitely a player to root for. He deserves the accolades. Hopefully this team can bring him a championship ring too.

Front Page: Silver Linings Amid September Storms
rkevin replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We have seen over the past decade or so in the men's pro leagues, young and relatively unknown teams that have become playoff-bound division champions, only to be beaten. But they ride that wave of success to eventually become world champions and dominant in their sport for several years. The Warriors and Astros come to mind. This current Twins team can achieve that too. Perhaps this is not their year to win it all but they are laying the foundation like those other teams have done.- 23 replies

Should We Be Upset With Yasiel Puig?
rkevin commented on Patrick Wozniak's blog entry in Patrick Wozniak's Blog
Shame! scottz. You shall walk the streets naked while we fling pig poo at you. Okay, Okay... I am doing the same thing as you, lol. The point is, most all of us rarely give 100% every day for the things we do to make a living. Puig is no different. He is an enigma that's for sure. But sometimes as fans of sports, we need that odd person, quizzical to us, a villain of sorts, someone that is easily identified, to make ourselves feel better for a brief period. -
A division crown is very close but definitely not a sure thing with the latest round of news about Pineda, Buxton and Kepler and with several other regulars ailing. Just don't know what to think. So close but yet so far...sigh.

It does seem that way to me too and it seems to be psychological more so than physical (injuries) or even skill. I noticed when Cleveland last came to town they had swagger and confidence almost to the point of a bully and what I mean is they just kinda let you know they are good and you are gonna have to knock them off their perch if you wanna beat them. The Twins just don't seem to show that same type of assertiveness and aggression. Lesser teams, the ChiSox and Tigers lately, seem to catch on to that quickly and often take charge of game situations. Makes it harder for the Twins to re-assert themselves. At least that is what I perceive.

I like Gibson. I don't like Gibson. I like Gibson. I don't like Gibson. I like Gibson. I don't like Gibson. I like Gibson. I don't like Gibson. I'm not picking petals off a daisy or being wishy-washy. That sentiment sums up how I feel about his Twins career.

Front Page: Constructing a Lineup for the Home Stretch
rkevin replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like it. Egos aside, fielding the best team for that day is what is needed. I wonder what stats Rocco looks at in making his lineup? P.S. He needs your advice. -
He is an enigma. Did you all see him lick his bat? That is just.....weird.

Plenty of games left to decide the fate of both teams. This series will be fun to watch to see who will rise. But, its not make or break for either. There is more to come, right?? For the Twins, I see 2 or 3 every day starters and 3 or 4 pitchers that will drive this team forward to a division championship and into the playoffs. For the every day guys -- Rosairo, Kepler, Cruz, Polanco or Sano. They all seem fit and capable to take on that role. Pitchers? Well we know Berrios is ready; will he be joined by Odorizzi and Gibson, May, Smelzer and\or Rogers? We'll need some of them, 3 or 4, maybe 5, to play at their top level to have a solid chance to go to the WS.

I think Rocco should become Manager\Player and then, when needed, he can toss a few innings for the team. Maybe even pinch-hit once in awhile. That would be great fun. Besides, novelties are a good sell at MLB ballparks.

Team could have come back from the 9th inning misfire and taken the win, but the bats went eerily silent. I didn't see the game but I guess Polanco could have gotten to a ball that could have saved a run?? Sometimes other things go unnoticed that could still take the game but yeah, true to his name, Dyson sucked in this one... lol. On another note, what's up with Po? His BA has taken a noticeable dive since early June, his fielding at times is questionable (lackadaisical?) and I cannot stand those dam throws of his....learn how to throw the ball overhand! Also his plate approach lately, he really messed up the other day with runners at 1st ann 2nd, no outs, and he pushes a lazy fly ball to right? I know Rocco's MO so far is to be all calm and collected but man sometimes you need to get in the face of these guys. Maybe he did, I don't know. But that recent series in Chi-Town, you see what Renteria did it to Moncado after he missed that pop-up...after that toungue lashing Moncado went on a terror at the plate. Sometimes it does the job.

Am I the only one that notices how often this Twins team loses the last game of a series? I checked: its been 18 times this season. That just somehow has to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Article: Could the Twins Miss the Playoffs?
rkevin replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That was a lot of ranting but I found a nugget in there. I believe your statement that "it's all between the ears" is true. That game last night, 10-7 Yankees, looked so much like a team trying but also knowing they have little chance. Yes, it is the Yankees and the Twins are their b**ch -- we have seen this scenario before so no real surprise. As the season heads into the final third and then the home-stretch, strong leadership will prevail. Teams with good leaders will rise and overcome adversity, bad breaks, unlucky bounces, bad ump calls, etc. while those without that will fall. We do not know yet what we will see with the Twins. The leader needs to be the manager, that's what he is paid to do. Rocco is a nice guy and seems to say the right things...but he has yet to face some real difficult times and pressure of winning and staying on top. To date he hasn't fared that well...can't say it is all on him these past two months but eventually it lands on him. We shall see how he handles the remainder of this season and if he can be the leader the team needs to push forward and get a playoff spot. -
Healing Heartbreak: a preview and prediction of the series finale with Oakland
rkevin commented on Nash Walker's blog entry in The Special Season
The fact the team is not playing well overall is not good and then the Yanks come to town. Yikes, they always seem to find a way to beat the Twins; sometimes it is ugly. Looking back, the Twins were at a season high record of +25 at 47-22 on Father's Day. KC won that day, 8-6. A telling sign from that game: "the Twins left the bases loaded three times and were 4 of 18 with runners in scoring position." (quoted from the AP). The Twins are 12-16 since that game. I know talk is mostly about the pitching and that is a sore spot, but I believe the lack of clutch hitting is what has hurt this team most during this tailspin. How do they fix that?? -
Eh, my newbieness showed on this one. These are from HawksNests post and I totally mucked that up. My badliness. So ... let's see if Hawk sees this and can elaborate.

Twins' OPS with runners in scoring position: April/May — .888 (#2 in MLB) June/July — .733 (#24 in MLB) Twins' OPS in high-leverage spots: April/May — .897 (#3 in MLB) June/July — .620 (#28 in MLB) Those two are very telling about what has been going on. Pitching isn't the team's greatest strength. Those offensive numbers must get better to win the division.

Article: Where’s the Truth in These Twins?
rkevin replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll use the popular phrase "me too" about watching Sano, and I agree on him being more selective, which should hopefully lead to more pitches over the plate and a big kaboom.
