Marwin Gonzalez Addresses Media, Expresses Regret
wallyrichards replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hate it when people make baseless accusations. Somehow Marwin has become the biggest cheater of all. Evidently all you have to do is throw out a couple of trumped up stats, quote some other jack ass and you've made your case. The Astros won as a team, lost as a team and cheated as a team.- 120 replies

Marwin Gonzalez Addresses Media, Expresses Regret
wallyrichards replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was wondering if or when Marwin would say something. I have no problem with excepting his apology. Evidently some are really upset with this latest scandal. Lets face it cheating in baseball is as old as the game its self. If it isn't fixing games its doctoring the ball, shooting steroids or stealing signs. It isn't just baseball. All sports have had some form of cheating even figure skating. Remember when Tanya Hardings boy friend took a wrench to Nancy Kerrigan? NHL has the curved hockey stick, NFL the deflated football and NBA lets there super stars get away with steps and don't get me started on college sports. Obviously I'm kind of joking around because what the Astros were doing was really bad but I give some credit to Marwin for owning up to it.- 120 replies

I like the fact that we've picked up a solid starter but I hate giving up Graterol a possible major league closer who can throw it 100 mph for strikes. That being said we had to pick up a starter not knowing what's going to happen with Hill and Pineda. Personally I think the Sox's made a mistake and they're making baseball decisions based on what there fans want not whats best for the team.

Should We Be Worried About the White Sox?
wallyrichards replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Injuries are a fact of life for all teams so yeah the Twins need to stay healthy. We all know this team will go as far as the pitching will take us. No matter how good our offense is it stills comes down to pitching. I think the most important thing about the Donaldson signing is his defense. Sano has a great arm but limited range and his lack of agility hurt us in the field. When you are large as Sano its hard to make those snap plays. Hopefully Sano will master his new position. Edwin Encarnacion is a worry for any team and for some reason he seems to have his best days against the Twins so we'll have to pitch him very carefully. Baseball is a hard game to predict. We look pretty good on paper but so does the White Sox. -
He's underrated, doesn't complain and I'm glad we got him.

Great job by Gibby, Garver and Rodgers tonight. I didn't realize Glen Perkins was Amish lol JK. Happy to see Gibson go 8 innings so we didn't have to use anyone other than Rodgers. Best guy out of the bull pen. Not sure how Hildenberger is doing down on the farm but they may want to look at bringing him backup because we have some real issues. One other thing do we need a hole weekend to honor Joe? I mean the guy made a dump truck full of money what else are they going to give him?

IMO the issues with Rodgers and Parker have more to do with how much and when they are used. In our last series with Detroit we had a chance to sweep them but in the lone loss Roco refused to use Rodgers in the eighth inning instead going with someone else. Detroit ended up winning the game when Roco should've brought Rodgers in to pitch the 8th and Parker to pitch the ninth. Unwritten rule is when you're at home and the game is tied you use your set up man and closer like you're a head. ON the road you don't use the set up man and closer until yo have the lead. At home you use them when its tied because you have the last at bat. This is the way its been for the last 15 to 20 years. Now you have last night and IMO Roco should've left the young kid in there to pitch at least one more inning. And now he's flip flopping the relievers all over the place. Bringing in Parker before Rodgers and it's starting to screw with these guys. You could see the relievers were more than a little disgruntled. This is a good team Roco just needs to not trip them up and we'll be going to the playoffs. I understand the pitchers need there rest and I'm ok with the 100 pitch count for the starters but when you start pulling them after only 60 some pitches while pitching a shut out you have to wonder if it's set them up for failure down the road. On the positive Smeltzer pitched his hiney off. I love those types of pitchers. It isn't how hard you throw it and he beats them with great control. Throwing strikes and hitting the corners. I'd like to see them recall HIldenberger and send May down.

Article: MIN 8, LAA 7: Twins Squeak Out Victory
wallyrichards replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree about Sid there comes a time when a person needs to retire. Personally I don't agree with sending Hilde down if this is whats happened. I think its kind of chicken ____. The manager needs to take some of the blame for today and for the loss against Detroit. There is a reason all pitchers aren't closers. Except for this last week Hilde has done a great job this year.- 75 replies

I forgot one thing. It would be nice to add one more really good left hander to the bull pen. If Roco doesn't screw things up we should be the heavy favored to win our division.- 75 replies

Knee jerk reaction. Hilde has done a lot more good than bad. The problem is the manager and how he uses him. Hilde is a 6th or 7th inning guy who pitches to 1, 2 or at most 3 guys. Hes not a closer and Roco should know this. The Angles have his number right now and we need to give him a few days off. I can't believe that Parker couldn't have pitched the ninth. Jesus he's been going 3 or 4 days between appearances I think he's rested enough to give a little more. I can live with siting Rodgers today but Roco almost cost us a sure victory today. I'm not sure but it looks like he's trying to reinvent the game. Its not rocket science when it comes to the bull pens you have long relievers, short relievers, 7th inning guys, set up 8th inning guys and a closer which we're lucky enough to have 2. Roco blew the tie game against Detroit that we lost when he should've used Rodgers in eighth and Parker in the ninth but decided to save them for some dumb reason and now he pulls this bull crap today. I've sung his praises but its looking like dumb luck now. This is a very good team all Roco has to do is stay out of there way. AS Sparky Anderson would say just don't trip them as there running out to the field. Or something like that.- 75 replies

Roco seems to make all the right moves but I have to say something about his decision to use Hildeberger instead of using his closer in the first game. What a perfect spot to get Rodgers and or Parker an inning of work and possibly win the game. Hasn't Hilde pitched enough? Not sure what the hell he was thinking about. What did he want to give Detroit a game because he felt sorry for them? Jesus Roco pull your head out. Right now Parker pitches about every 4 or 5 days so he could use a little more work. Not sure what he was thinking about but he pulled a real Boner.

Article: MIN 7, NYY 3: Curse This
wallyrichards replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Its so nice having hitters who can hit the ball the other way. I got so sick of Dozier trying to pull everything and Mauer always slapping it to left. Dozier wanted to pull it and hit home runs all the time and it made him so one dimensional. Easy to pitch to and same with Mauer. He never pulled it always hitting it to left and for some reason he couldn't hit with any power. This team is much better and the guys they added are really good. I know Joe was a hell of a athlete but with his huge salary it really hand cuffed the team. With the way Barrios, Odorizia and Perez have pitched we may not need to add pitching.- 25 replies

Just one game not that big a of a deal but god dang it Gibson! Pull your head out and pitch like you have a set. Quit nibbling and try to get a head in the count for once. Missing the strike zone by a foot and a half is a wasted pitch. I don't think it's a lack of control its a lack of nerve. I'd rather he give up a homer throwing strikes earlier in the count than giving them up by having to throw strikes late in the count because has to. Like someone said jet lag. They've bounced back after a bad game before so there shouldn't be an issue.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I think that's how it goes. Leave him in the ninth spot he's building confidence so don't mess with him. Nice sweep of the O's this past weekend. -
Article: The Early Returns From Michael Pineda
wallyrichards replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Things fell apart for Pineda not because he pitched bad or ran out of gas. Kempler should've called off Crone on the short fly to right and Crone didn't make the over the shoulder catch. Then there was Eddy's attempt on a short fly to left where he pulled up just short. I think he was worried about running into someone but he had a 10 yard cushion but he ends up letting the ball drop right in front of him. It almost hit him in the toe that's how close he was. All he had to do was stick his glove out and he could've made the catch. They brag about there defense but for some reason they just weren't with it today. To lacks out there! Eddy made up for it with the bat but the rest of the guys couldn't get the timely hits to come back. Not sure why they were so lackadaisical today. -
Article: TOR 6, MIN 5: Gut Punch
wallyrichards replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gibby as he is called needs to throw strikes and trust the guys behind you to make plays. This is what I loved about Blyleven. Yeah he gave up some homers but a lot of them were one run shots because he attacked the strike zone and let his defense make plays for him. Gibby on the other hand try's to be to nibble to much and he ends up walking people. You don't need to strike everyone out and quit being such a nervous Nelly or in this case a nervous Gibby. One other thing I don't know who was calling the pitches last night but they didn't do a very good job. Not sure if that goes on Castro, Roco or Gibby but it was brutal the last couple innings Gibson pitched.- 50 replies

Article: Questions About Miguel Sanó's Return
wallyrichards replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sano can get healthy in the minors and when he proves he can stay healthy than call him up. Until then we go with what we have. If he does get back to the majors then drop Castro who brings nothing to the table. If we need to drop anyone else it should be Adrianza. I have a feeling things will work there way out. Someone will get injured so we'll probably need everyone. I'll add that Garner is playing great. He's learned how to frame pitches which Castro doesn't do and Garner's bat is working real well right now. Castro on the other hand is brutal. When it comes to Turtle the guy can flat out hit. Don't send him down he is our spark plug and he can play. Yea he is in a little slump right now but only because the ball is being hit right at people. He is making great contact and its only a mater of time before he breaks out of the slump. I'm more concerned with our middle relievers. Trevor May can't keep blowing games like he did last night. -

The one thing that does worry me is our closer. I like Rodgers as our 8th inning guy but I'm not sold on Parker. I'm hoping its the cold weather that has affected him and that once it warms up he'll look a lot better. It was nice seeing Hildenberger come in and shut them down. I love watching him throw pitches in the mid 70's and get strike outs. He did a great job.
