  1. Ozuna can DH some. He should have taken QO. His defensive will drive you crazy at times with popups down the line that look catchable. Throwing from LF is problematic.
  2. Alcantra doesn't reach arbitration for two more seasons. Though I wonder why the Marlins traded Zac Gallen to Arizona for a young minor leaguer.
  3. That goes on in our main Cardinals message board all of the time. Some of the posters use more than one alias. We are told about our failed signings sometimes blown out of proportion and then urged to assign free agents that usually are disasters. You wouldn't know that the Cardinals were only mathematically eliminated from the postseason for only 3 days since 2011 by reading their posts. They maintained a winning record for 19 of last 20 years. Oh, they made some free agent mistakes and almost re-signed Pujols and Heyward.
  4. You should mention to prevent one of your players from hitting free agency like the Tigers signing Cabrera to a terrible contract.
  5. Why did Donaldson have calf injuries on both the left and right calves like 4 times total? Last year I remember there was a point in the season thay they were concerned. Buyer beware. One year maybe.
  6. Well, you could extend someone like Phil Hughes and have buyer's remorse. So you go from grief to remorse.
  7. What I find interesting about Chapman is he has as many HRs against relievers as he does starting pitchers-18. He hits over .600 slugging against relievers as well. I wonder if he becomes just a .200 hitter against the best teams who have better BPs?
  8. In September Madbum gave up 19 earned runs in 31 IP. Just think how many months he will have an ERA over 5 in the AL. There goes your payroll. Oh you will gush if he gets off to a good start, but, he is not 24 anymore. $120 million for 5 years? I've seen reports that our GM is interested in him in St. Louis. Still paying for his signing mid-level relievers for several years and Mike Leake.
  9. Josh Donaldson 1 year is ok. Moose is like hit Homeruns with low OBP. Donaldson's calves will always be a problem for a team
  10. The Twins were 32-37 playing teams .500 or better. Has a team ever won 101 games or more, but, did so poorly against winning teams? I pointed out if you were going to trade regulars don't trade the ones that did well against winning teams. I hate the Yankees and Red Sox and am always happy when they are beaten in the postseason. Hard to believe a team could lose so many playoff games in a row to the Yankees without getting a little lucky.
  11. If you were to trade starting position players that are about to get expensive I would trade those who did well against the teams that lost 89 or more and poorly against the pennant contenders. I think you can win the division title in the worst division in baseball since division play began.
  12. Wheeler will do well against those sub .500 teams if he stays healthy. But, playoff contenders he will be like 3-7.
  13. What kind of numbers are you getting for Ozuna? Ozuna will frustrate any NL team with his sporadic defense. And his hot and cold hitting as well. Perhaps if your park gives up a lot of HRs. He has a shoulder issue. Castellanos had 88 extra base hits. His defense leaves a little bit to be desired. If he could have another 80 xbh season great though 5 years seems like paying for a couple down years.
  14. Those teams go hard after Wheeler? He has given up nearly 2 more runs a game to teams above .500 than below in his career. Suddenly some team can't afford Cole or Stephen Strasburg so they blow their budget on this future playoff winner.
  15. Do these automated umpires take into account crouching? I would stay crouched to shrink my strike zone unless I saw a great pitch to hit. Whereas a human umpire determines strike zone when I am at the point of swinging and applies it to when I stay crouched.
  16. The Mets were trying to trade Wheeler while at the same time trading for Stroman. Why when they thought they had a shot at wildcard? Well, if you look at Wheeler he had an ERA at 4.41 at the end of August. Some team will think he is worth 5 years and $90 million. Will you get 30 starts after his previous injuries? The Mets are one of the worst teams signing bad contracts and only had a short period in the mid 80's in which they were annual contenders. At least they could see that when Wheeler is pitching they will win about half his starts.
  17. That Phillies pitching staff suddenly fell apart after 2011. Thought it would be effective for a few more years. 1 year with Hamels.
  18. If you could get those 2 on a short term contract. Ryu is always injury proned. The Mets traded for a SP at the deadline while trying to trade Wheeler another injury rehabbed pitcher. The Mets always have issues with winning in consecutive years with all of their great pitching since their Seaver and Koosman days. If they were trying to trade Wheeler whole holding out hope of the Wild card it says something. I miss the days when top pitchers could be signed for a few million a year. It wasn't going to hamstring your organization if the pitcher bombs or is injured. The secret to the Cardinals this century is managing all of the turnover and injuries and even death of their starting pitching and hopefully the bullpen doesn't blow up. Every couple years the Cards may have only 1 SP who contributed a few years earlier and still make the postseason. Congrats on Odorizzi. Little pricy but only 1 year.
  19. Zach Gallen was not yet I don't think a top prospect when traded. He probably would have stayed in the minors last season. Same with Alcantra. Hope the Cards didn't make a mistake since they expected more from Ozuna.
  20. Would he have a better WHIP in a NL park that is not a bandbox? He looks like you have to make a long reliever out of him if you have 5 better starters.
  21. Here in St. Louis where he is from 30 miles away some fans have shown interest in him. He does well against bad teams, but, against the top teams you can't count on him to shut the Dodgers down. Well, pitching is hard to find and expensive.
