  1. So, I tend to not overvalue our prospects but some things to call out: 1.) Odorizzi: he has more left than just this year. He's a youngish SP. I imagine he'd go for a good amount more than Duke. 2.) Dozier: I struggle to see him going for much. His numbers and his expiring contract being the major reasons. Anyways, good list overall. Thanks for posting this!
  2. Good article. I think these guys should be trying to get as much money as possible but the years teams are committing to is debilitating and a lot to eat (the roster spot as much as the mony that goes with the the years). Most of the time, these guys aren’t even close to their original value later in the contract. Which is the risk you take, 8 get it. But the owners and the data is telling owners not to take the risk of years anymore. Sure, pay the players more but do it with less years committed.
  3. I would NOT protect Lewin Diaz. If someone really wants him at this age/ability, he will most likely fail. The four on the bubble are really hard to figure out. I would keep Thorpe for sure. He's a given to me. After that, Stewart is likely a future BP arm. I guess it depends if they think he'll be a stud or not as a BP arm. Bard has solid stuff and his stats are trending the right direction. I would try and keep him. Burdi will definitely get taken by another team but he seems so injury prone. I hate to lose him. How many spots are there likely going to be?
  4. It's a great point. I mean, for the pitchers that the Twins can afford and get there's going to be a level of risk and I'd prefer walks as the risk as opposed to hits and/or homeruns (see Santiago, Hector).
  5. In my opinion, this is the exact type of SP they should sign. He has upside. He'll come relatively cheap (for a SP) and could surprise with improved stats away from Coors. We aren't getting Darvish and honestly as much as I'd love Darvish, it's an extremely risky contract especially with all of the young kids needing contracts over the next few years. Regardless of anything in order to be successful as a small market team we'll need a Berrios, Romero, Gonsalves or Thorpe to become a stud #1. You aren't winning a WS without that happening anyway. What the Twins should do is get a #3 SP and if they need an ace at the deadline, you trade for one with our youth. Or, you decide to trade some youth this offseason (Kepler, Gordon, Romero, Gonsalves, Rooker etc.) for an ace and/or #1 pitcher. The Twins will most likely never do a 6-7 year contract with a SP and honestly, I don't know if they ever should unless a in-house guy becomes a Kershaw/Verlander type.
