    RED WINGS REPORT

    Rochester

    Box Score

    No Game Scheduled.

    CHATTANOOGA CHATTER

    Chattanooga 4, Pensacola 3

    Box Score

Down 3-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, Lookouts baseball found itself with a few heroes. Mitchell Kranson was called upon to pinch hit, and he hit a game-tying home run, his second since joining the Lookouts. Tanner English followed with a triple. After two batters were walked intentionally, Chris Paul provided the walk off single.

Brent Rooker led the offense. The powerful slugger went 2-for-3 with his 18th home run of the season. Paul went 2-for-5 in the game. Jaylin Davis also went 2-for-5 on the night.

It was Sam Clay’s turn to play the role of “Opener” on Monday night. He gave up one run on two hits and a walk in his inning. He struck out one. Anthony Marzi then came on and worked the next five innings. He gave up just one run despite five hits, three walks and a hit batter. He struck out four. Andrew Vasquez got five outs, two on strikeouts, and Ryne Harper struck out the one batter he faced.

    MIRACLE MATTERS

    Ft. Myers 11, Jupiter 12 (11 innings)

    Box Score

The Miracle began a road trip on Monday, and it was a ‘70s Road Trip…

    https://twitter.com/MiracleBaseball/status/1021415677138173954

This game went back and forth starting in the ninth. One run given up by the Miracle in the bottom of the ninth tied it up. The Miracle scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning, but then they gave up three more in the bottom of the inning. The Miracle then scored a run in the top of the 11th, but they gave up two in the bottom of the 11th to take a tough loss.

Bryan Sammons made his Florida State League debut, and it was a struggle. The left-hander gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits, two walks and a hit batter in just three innings. He struck out two. Colton Davis came on and struck out two over two scoreless, hitless innings. Clark Beeker came on in long relief. He gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out three. Jovani Moran came on for the 11th inning, and he was charged with two runs (one earned) on two hits. He recorded two outs, one via the strikeout.

Yes, the hitting hero for the Miracle was again Alex Kirilloff. He went 3-for-4 with a walk and three more doubles. He now has 11 with the Miracle and 31 on the season. Royce Lewis gave the Miracle an early,second-inning lead with a bases-clearing double.

    KERNELS NUGGETS

    Cedar Rapids 0, Lansing 2

    Box Score

The Kernels got another quality start from righty Randy Dobnak. He gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four. Melvi Acosta came on and threw two scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and walked one.

Unfortunately, the Kernels managed just two hits and two walks in the game. Andrew Bechtold hit his 16th doubles while Ariel Montesino knocked his second two-bagger.

    E-TWINS E-TALK

    Elizabethton , Princeton

    Box Score

The doubleheader at Princeton was cancelled. Obviously with a short-season, there are fewer off days to make up games, so instead of postponing, they need to cancel them.

    GCL TWINS TALK

GCL Twins 4, GCL Rays 5 (10 innings)

    Box Score

Another extra innings game for a Twins affiliate in Florida… Same result, unfortunately. The Twins scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning, but then gave up three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Prelander Berroa started and gave up two runs on three hits over four innings. He walked four and struck out four. Niklas Rimmel, a 19-year-old from Germany, made his first pro appearance in the States. He gave up two hits over two scoreless innings. Michael Montero gave up a hit and walked one but did not allow a run over his two innings. JT Perez came on and gave up two runs (1 earned) on two hits over 1 2/3 innings. He struck out two. Osiris German came on and gave up a home run that ended the game.

Gabe Snyder led the offense. He went 2-for-4 with his fourth double. LaRon Smith and Janigson Villalobos both went 1-for-3 with two walks. Smith added his first double. Hunter Lee added his first GCL double, and Willie Joe Garry, Jr., added his third double.

Hoping some promotions from E-Town can add some pop to the CR lineup. The CR rotation looks more than capable, but they need some help. There are some good players in the lineup, but you can't lose a Lewis and a Kirilloff and not feel it at some point. I know that winning isn't the overall point of MiLB, but it's still fun and good for those communities.

Kirriloff at Cedar Rapids 333/391/607/999, and at Ft Meyers 353/377/534/912. Obviously Ft Meyers is suppressing power, as it does for everyone. He is striking out 16.3% at Ft Meyers and 18.7% at Cedar Rapids. Nice to see him move up and cut down the Ks. Almost all of his OBP comes from hits. Would just like to see more walks from him, but that is nitpicking, he is raking!

Agreed. He can flat out hit. The fangraphs scouting guy is pretty big on Kiriloff and he'll probably be a consensus top 50 prospect this offseason on all the ranking sites.

Not only does Rooker continue to rake, his walks are way up in his last ten games (9).

Is it possible the Twins could move Kirilloff up another level in early August?  Unlikely, but if he keeps hitting well over .300 average for another couple weeks, why not?

Maybe it's just me, but I'll always take an OBP that high driven by a high batting average over a guy who gets it with walks... ;)

not worried about walks from a guy who is crushing the ball this well right now. If he goes into a bit of a slump and starts expanding the strike zone, then you might worry a little, but clearly he's seeing the ball well and attacking it. I expect his walks to start going up as guys stop giving him pitches to hit.

Great news to see Lewis and Kirilloff responding so well to their promotion.

Rooker seems to be in a groove right now. It would be great for him to finish out the season strong; it's important to realize this is his first year playing this kind of schedule. he's already played 50% more games than last year, so if he finishes the year strong and stays healthy he's going to be in a good position for next season. (spring training invite, likely assignment to AAA unless he just hits his way into a job?)

I was thinking the same thing.  I don't think he would be overwhelmed at AA.  If they moved him to AA in the next week or two it would help make up for the time he lost last season.  Getting enough AA experience this year and starting there next year with a leg up he would at least have a chance to make it to the big league club later next year.  Even if he can't meet that time table AA and AAA is the pitching he needs to see to be ready for MLB.

Or is the plan to keep him at Fort Myers, then send him out to the AFL?  Would give him a chance to see better pitching, without some of the pressure.

Yeah that works for me as well.  I just think he is good enough that he doesn't need the cushion but the people closest to him probably know best.  Even if he doesn't hit AA until next year he could be a September call up.  If his defense is average I think he makes the big league at an early age.

2020 could be a big year for the Twins as there should be wave 2 talent starting to come in.

While it may not be possible, or realistic, the FO should “at least” be looking to getting Rooker, Lewis, Kirilloff, Gordon, Navarreto, and Wade all in Target Field by September.

Rooker maybe, Lewis no chance, Kirilloff extremely doubtful, Gordon definitely, Navaretto possibly, Wade almost a certainty

Nobody is privy to what the plan is. My assumption was Kirilloff would get up to the Miracle and stay there... but obviously if he's getting 2-3 hits a game for a month, the plan is likely subject to change. He can go to the AFL regardless.

Anyone hear anything on this?  Serious enough for DL stint?

Wonder if this is part of the reason for the promotion of C/1B Ben Rodriguez from Cedar Rapids to Fort Myers.

Not sure if you saw my tweet earlier this afternoon, but he fractured his thumb. Finds out tomorrow if he'll need surgery.

In 2018? Lewis? Navarreto? Kirilloff? Wade and Gordon are probables... Rooker is a maybe, but unlikely...the other three... 2019, maybe...

There is still plenty of time for September ticket prices to drop enough so even a minor league salary can afford them. :)
