The Twins are in St. Louis, and J.A. Happ will have to move from the road clubhouse to the home clubhouse.

John Gant will turn 29 next week. He was originally the 21st round pick of the Mets out of high school in Florida. He began the season in the Cardinals starting rotation but moved to the bullpen. He is 4-6 with a 3.42 ERA. In 76 1/3 innings, he has walked 56 and struck out 56. Hence, his WHIP is at 1.57.

Lefty Evan Sisk went to the College of Charleston with Bailey Ober. This season, he has split time between High-A and Double-A. Overall, he has pitched in 26 games. He has a 3.31 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. In 32 2/3 innings, he has 20 walks and 46 strikeouts.

That is the type of player that can be acquired for the 38-year-old Happ. In his 15th MLB season, he is 5-6 with a 6.77 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. In 98 1/3 innings, he has given up 125 hits, walked 21 and struck out 77 batters. He had a near no-hitter early in the season, but has really struggled. He leads MLB in allowing barrels.

While Gant isn't a prospect - he's been in the big leagues as far back as 2016 - this is a lottery ticket for the rest of the season. Clearly Gant has control and command issues, but he's got decent stuff.

Dan Hayes reports that the Twins acquired John Gant from St. Louis in exchange for LHP J.A. Happ.

Any truth to rumors that Twins were reticent,,,willing to walk away…but then the Cardinals promised to start him in a game this weekend if the Twins pulled the trigger?

Realized a short while ago that the Twins are playing the Cardinals this weekend. In all seriousness, since this is such a low-wattage trade and the only Twins trade of this deadline with current major leaguers going both ways, I wonder whether they (and maybe the Cards too) prioritized making a deal with the squad that was already in the same city.

Wait, am I reading this right? We got a 28 year old pitcher on a real major league roster with a sub 3.5 ERA and a AA pitcher for the withered husk of J.A. Happ? Wow .....  just, wow.

Did not know about this till later in the day as I was working at an area golf course.  Came home to find my spouse of 28 years and a LIFE LONG Cardinals fan more than p*issed about this fleecing. Although we're watching the game together she hasn't talked to me for the last 20 minutes as I've been reading all the posts on this thread....LOL.

Getting rid of the corpse of JA Happ makes me so happy I could plotz. It was a perfectly reasonable signing in the off-season that crapped out completely after 5 starts. The last 12 have been basically a nightmare and getting rid of him for anything is awesome. He's been absolutely destroyed too many times in the last 2 months for me to ever want to see him in a Twins uniform on the mound ever again.

I will be checking out Cardinals box scores just to see if he has a Lance Lynn-like rebound...but I don't think he will.

Depending on how the Cardinal rotation is set up and what they want to do, he could be ready for a start on August 1, against... the Twins. Anyone want to predict a 2021-ish outcome to such a game? Nah, that would be on short rest.  But, need I repeat, this is 2021.

This could be the greatest trade in Major League history!

The fact that the Cardinals actually gave us 2 players and didn’t demand we throw in Buxton to take Happ off our hands makes it better than the Babe Ruth trade from Boston to the Yankees for cash.
