    Friday News and Rumors:

Morosi: José Berríos WILL be traded today.

Trade Deadline Intel from Aaron Gleeman

We could be in for a busy day...

Kyle Gibson Likely on the Move

With this report, it certainly sounds like the San Diego Padres are MAJOR players in the José Berríos sweepstakes. The interesting angle with Gibson is that the Twins might not want to wait too long on a  Berríos trade. If the Padres don't want to get left without a chair and pull the trigger on Gibson, the Twins could lose out on a potentially exciting offer from San Diego.

    Thursday News and Rumors:

Chicago White Sox Trade For Cesar Hernandez and Ryan Tepera

The first pair of trades of the day on Thursday came from the Minnesota Twins’ biggest rivals, the Chicago White Sox who traded for reigning gold glove second baseman, Cesar Hernandez and right-handed reliever, Ryan Tepera. While these moves didn’t have a direct impact on the Minnesota Twins in 2022, Hernandez has a club option for 2023 at $6M, so the Twins could be seeing plenty of Hernandez over the next year and a half should the Sox pick up that option.

In acquiring reliever Ryan Tepera, the White Sox gave up their 23rd ranked prospect. Tepara owns a 3.23 ERA since the start of 2020 and is also on an expiring deal, so Twins fans shouldn’t expect the Twins to get a top prospect for Hansel Robles or Alexander Colomé should they choose to move either of them.

New York Yankees Trade For Anthony Rizzo

Just a day after trading for left handed slugger Joey Gallo, the New York Yankees stayed aggressive in adding another lefty in Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo owns a .792 OPS this season, but his left handed bat figures to play well in Yankee Stadium.

From a Twins perspective, the biggest takeaway from the Yankees acquiring Rizzo is that the Yankees are looking to be aggressive at the trade deadline. They have been linked to José Berríos this week, but they could also have interest in other players such as Michael Pineda or Kenta Maeda as they sure look like they want to push for the playoffs this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers Trade For Max Scherzer and Trea Turner

The headliner deal of the day in the baseball world occurred when the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off a blockbuster in acquiring multi-time Cy Young winner, Max Scherzer, along with all-star shortstop Trea Turner for a massive haul of prospects including Keibert Ruiz and Josiah Gray. After initial reports stated that Scherzer was going to be headed to San Diego, the Dodgers swooped in at the last minute to acquire the pair of stars from the Nationals.

With Max Scherzer now off the trade market, José Berríos is far and away the biggest pitcher name left on the trade market. Additionally, with the Padres losing out on Max Scherzer and instead him signing with their division rivals, the Padres now figure to be extremely interested in Berríos and now under some pressure to perhaps overpay for him.

Boston Red Sox Trade For Kyle Schwarber

The trades kept coming on Thursday evening, when the Boston Red Sox traded for Nationals’ outfielder, Kyle Schwarber. This was a big acquisition for the Red Sox who are trying to maintain their lead in the loaded American League East. Similar to the Yankees, this move signaled to the baseball world that the Red Sox are all in, and has also been linked to the Minnesota Twins and José Berríos. Just how aggressive are the Red Sox going to be?

San Diego Padres Trade For Daniel Hudson

The final trade of the night came when the Nationals continued their sell off and traded reliever Daniel Hudson to the Padres for a low-end pitching prospect.

More than 5 Teams are Interested in José Berríos

Berríos has become THE name of the MLB trade deadline, with Ken Rosenthal reporting that at least 5 of MLB's contenders are interested in trading for the 2-time all-star.

Seattle Mariners Pursued Trade for Berríos

In addition to the 5 teams listed above, today we learned that the Seattle Mariners have pursued a trade for Berríos. Also included in the report is that Minnesota is asking for a top young starter. The headliner included in the report is Emerson Hancock who is MLB.com's #23 prospect.

New York Mets Appear to Be OUT on Berríos Sweepstakes

Many teams were reported to join the José Berríos sweepstakes today, but the reports made it sound as if the New York Mets are not in the mix for a Berríos trade. The New York Mets have a talented farm system with intriguing prospects such as Ronny Mauricio, but for now it appears they are not going to make a push. That can always change, though...

Kind of surprised a move or any talk of a trade of Robles Duffey or Pineda. A lot of guys to move today if that’s the case, sounds like we may have seen the last of Berrios.
maybe a deal in the works to package a few together.  Hope for Mackenzie Gore.

Who knows??  Big pitcher names have been traded already that are much better than Berrios.  Maybe Twins will do something today.  If they keep Berrios fine.  But they better trade some of the stiffs on the team even if they get low level prospects.  If the Twins do nothing today to improve the team now or at least for the future it will speak volumes of the failures of the FO.

Twins should capitalize on overpay scenarios, especially from Padres and/or Blue Jays.  What price will be enough for Twins to make the move?  Fly on the wall in the trade bunker office for the Twins would be a fun day.  I think you get something less impressive for Pineda, Robles and Duffy would be arms for the future but don't think it will be anything that knocks our socks off.  Buxton move would be interesting, don't see them parting ways with him at this time.  I'd like for Berrios to go NL vs AL

No team is going to trade for Robles. Pineda will be traded today. Maybe Thielbar will also be traded. By the way, Coloumbe certainly has been a pleasant surprise out of the pen.

After the trading deadline I hope the Twins release Colome and Robles and option Alcala to St. Paul. Alcala needs to rework his game. Earlier in the season I was expecting him to do great. He throws so hard, but when he’s throwing strikes the pitches are all too often in the middle of the plate. The demotion to AAA seems to have helped Rooker. Alcala needs something similar to happen to him.

While you all believe Berrios is gone, I don't know if that is true.  Am somewhat disappointed that the Twins haven't pulled the trigger on anything other than Cruz, who got a great return.  Expect they are holding their cards tight and demanding very high returns.  Understand that for Berrios, but lots of other parts should already have been moved, at least IMO.

Seven hours to go.  Is it going to be a wild ride this afternoon?  I certainly hope so as the return for Jose will never be higher if it is true that there are four or more teams vying for his services.

This is painful.  No game report, except the minors where I had to read about Shoemaker again.  With so many parts to remove and so much happening in the marker where are the Twins.  We need to do more that lose Berrios - if we do!

Is this more painful than watching the Twins pretend to be a baseball team?

i may be the only guy that wants no trading of Berrios or Pineda..with Pineda Maeda and Berrios Twins would have a good nucleus for next year..no true Ace but solid 2,3,4....(no one they get in trades will be better than them in the near future). Ober can be a good 5...but what Twins need most of all is an ACE. and oh,,,,,5 good relievers ..there is absolutely no one in that pen that can be trusted.

I’ll join your party not wanting to trade Berrios. There’s no one internally to replace his production as soon as next year. Nor do I believe it will be replaced by an expensive FA signing.

I like Big Mike. I think the Twins like Big Mike. He’s about the only player I think would consider coming back in free agency if he is traded today.

Yes - because I am trying to figure out what the highlights will be for the rest of the season.  What keeps me interested after the trades are done.  Kiriloff and Buxton gone, Berrios gone???

Iv switched over to Football mode. Watching training camp highlights. Thats more entertaining than watching the Twins at this point.

I feel for any player or prospect that gets traded to MN.  It would be like the player in the movie 42 who got traded to Pittsburgh because they were unwilling to get on board and play with Robinson.  Not really sure if it was Pittsburgh but it was a sucky team and no player wanted to go there.  I wonder if we are on the no trade list of many of the great players today and that is why we get stuck with prospects or older veterans.  To clarify....we were lucky to get a veteran like Cruz but is he here?  NOPE!  Will we see the prospects we got for him in the near future?  DOUBT IT!

The Twins have 4 bad months of baseball following 2 Division Championships  and 3 playoff appearances in the last 55 months.................and they see the need to sell off important pieces. I don't want these guys handling my investment portfolio. It's not just our guys of course. Baseball is broken in so many ways.

But what this sell off does.......it now gives them a chance to play front office managers of a MLB team. Good for them. Have fun fellas. No expectations of winning right away [they are building a winner.....ya, right]. There farm hand managers and coaches get top develop exciting talent -- to the point where they are so good, they are too expensive to keep.

    Go Yankees......

Damn, I keep looking at that picture at the top of this piece.  Remember the excitement that day when he was drafted.  Recall all those winter videos of his working his butt off on the beaches back home in P.R.  I understand that they can get a haul for him and it probably makes sense to move on.  But what I would really prefer is that they find a way to pay the young man and he stays a Twin.......for life.

You're right. Everyone on this site fancies themselves MLB managers more than fans. They are like fantasy football players. Fans of the process.....not the game. They "want" a Berrios trade...to see if they called it correctly.

    Go Yankees...........?

And if the trade offers for Pineda are unsatisfactory, I wonder if we could see a deadline day contract extension announcement, like Kurt Suzuki circa 2014?

A lot of us do not want Berrios traded.  We could be convinced if the return is good.

That's great, but also sounds a bit made up to me.  How many more teams could have possibly called the Twins with anything serious between "last night" and 8:51am?

Wouldn’t surprise me. I’d rather have him around for another year or 2 instead of a lousy return.

2? He's made it very clear he wants to test free agency. He's not signing a one year deal unless he's hurt. Unless you are counting this year. I don't take a lousy offer either, no way. I don't think they do either.

Wires may have been crossed. I’m talking about Pineda.

I can't see them trading Berrios. That would be plain stupid. I can see them trading Pineda and Kepler and possibly Donaldson while paying some of his salary. Robles is worthless right now so maybe a waiver deal in August is possible. Rogers would be in demand though I would hate to see him go.

The Red Sox getting Schwarber is like the Yankees getting Gallo. They are both Dave Kingman type hitters (or similar to Sano). Rizzo is a big acquisition and maybe we can get Voit from them for Pineada (though they would want Berrios).

we've had a bad year. Should we blow up everything and really go backwards?
