Jose Berrios continued his dominance and struck out 11 Marlin batters as he threw seven scoreless innings. The Twins’ offense rebounded from their slow night last night and jumped on Sandy Alcantara for seven runs and ran him out of the game before he finished the fifth inning. Sean Poppen blew the shutout with a grand slam, but Rogers shut down their rally.

Nelson Cruz clocked his 40th home run over the weekend and in the process became a member of the 400-home run club. Earlier in the year, I wrote about his unlikely quest for 400 home runs with the biggest caveat being that he didn’t hit his first home runs until he was 26 years old. Now he’s on the brink of one of the best seasons ever for a 39-year old player and it certainly looks like the Twins stole him on the free agent market.

Minnesota Twins super-utility player Marwin Gonzalez addressed the media about his participation in the Houston Astros electronically-based sign-stealing scandal. He started with an apology. “I'm remorseful for everything that happened in 2017, for everything that we did as a group, and for the players that were affected directly by us by doing this and some other things," said Gonzalez. "That's why I feel more regret, and that's why I'm remorseful.”

We’ll we’ve arrived. Back in May I wrote about the designated hitter being universally adopted by Major League Baseball for 2020. It now appears that will be the case going forward as well, and the Twins immediately vault to the top of the class.
