Lee MacPhail ran two baseball teams — the Orioles (1958-1965) and Yankees (1966-1973) — and did not win a pennant at either stop. That said, the evidence suggests that he did a great job at both places, dramatically improving organizations that had been in disarray and won championships soon after he had (voluntarily) moved on.

Regression was expected for Danny Santana following a charmed rookie season, but few could have guessed it would hit him as hard as it has right out of the gate.

In 42 plate appearances over his first 10 games of the season, the 24-year-old has eight hits (seven singles), 13 strikeouts and zero walks. For the most part, he has looked totally overmatched at the plate.

On Sunday, Santana got his second day off of the season. Eduardo Escobar, starting at shortstop in his place, went 1-for-4 with an RBI single.

The calendar has already passed halfway through June and the 2015 major league baseball season is starting to take shape. Nearing the halfway point of the season, teams are starting to categorize themselves as contenders or pretenders.

Yesterday, Nick penciled in a starting rotation for 2017. Improving the Minnesota Twins starting rotation should be (and will be) the top priority for whoever the incoming President of Baseball Operations and General Manager are. Aside from Ervin Santana, the starters have been pretty much awful. The bullpen hasn’t been a whole lot better, so today I’m going to see if I can help pencil in a Twins bullpen for 2017.

MLB's 2017 draft is a little over two weeks away. Minnesota has known they have the first overall pick since last fall and the new regime will be doing their due diligence as draft day approaches. With Derek Falvey and Thad Levine overseeing their first draft, there is a lot of pressure for the club to make the right pick.

The Twins have narrowed their list to a handful of players but it seems more likely that the club will be picking from a trio that includes college players Brenden McKay and Kyle Wright and two-way high school player Hunter Greene. McKay and Wright might be the safer picks because of their collegiate experience. Greene could be a once in a generation player on the mound.

At this point, it seems more likely for the Twins to select one of the safer college options. This leaves Greene, a player Sports Illustrated called "the star baseball needs," still on the board. Will passing on Greene haunt the Twins in the years to come?

Ervin Santana lasted just 3.1 innings, and it took him 95 pitches to get that far into the ballgame. The Twins couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole, but the loss didn’t cloud an exciting night at Target Field in which Tom Kelly’s statue was unveiled and the 1987 reunion weekend kicked off.

We know Jose Berrios can pass any physical test you put in front of him, but Wednesday night he passed an emotional test with flying colors. Berrios was in control and fellow Puerto Rico native Eddie Rosario scored the game-winning run in the 16th inning on a walk-off hit by Ryan LaMarre.

The Twins made their first splash of the trade deadline Saturday night when they acquired veteran reliever Sergio Romo from the Miami Marlins. Romo is probably most well know for his time with the San Francisco Giants during their three World Series runs from 2010 through 2014. The Twins will be hoping their young bullpen can draw on Romo’s postseason experience to guide them through what hopefully is a World Series run of their own.
