Twins

It was a fantastic afternoon for pitchers at Target Field, with both teams holding each other to one run each until the bottom of the ninth. But José Miranda came through against one of baseball’s best closers to walk off the Brewers and even the series.

There were moments of brilliance. Yet the Twins dropped another game to the Houston Astros on Thursday evening in the series finale against Houston. 

In June of 2020, the Toronto Blue Jays drafted Austin Martin fifth overall. They paid $7 million to sign him (more than Royce Lewis got as the top overall pick three years earlier), envisioning the collegiate superstar as a centerpiece in their plans going forward.

One year later, they traded him to the Twins at the deadline for José Berríos. Did the Jays sell low? Did the Twins buy high? Somewhere in between? That is the question.

Finally! The Twins demolished the Giants with eight early runs and snapped a six-game losing streak. Joe Ryan tossed six shutout innings, allowing only two hits, making up for a perfect Friday night at Target Field.

Before any action above the Complex League took place today, the big news was Matt Wallner and Christian Encarnacion-Strand earning their promotions. Wallner is now back home in Minnesota at Triple-A, while Encarnacion-Strand heads to Double-A Wichita.

For the second consecutive night, the Twins’ offense was utterly dominated by Detroit pitching. Tigers starter Tarik Skubal pitched a gem, with seven shutout innings, while Bailey Ober had a rough fifth inning, basically putting the game out of reach. Minnesota has its first series loss in three weeks.

After snapping a six-game losing streak Friday night, the Twins hoped to begin a new winning streak against the Giants and keep their postseason hopes alive Saturday night. With pitching carrying the weight for most of the game, the Twins had to walk their way around the bases to win this one.

We're 48 hours away. Players are done playing (though maybe not done working out) and teams will be solidifying their draft boards for the final time. The biggest question remains, "When the Twins are on the clock at #8, who's it going to be?"

It's not often you record multiple triples in a game, but that happened for Emmanuel Rodriguez tonight. Matt Canterino had iffy command but still put his dominant stuff on cruise control. The Saints ripped off 12 runs in a total team effort. It was a busy day on the farm with more than a couple of promotions.

The Twins lost to Kansas City, 4-3 on Tuesday night. After a hot start, the offense went quiet in the late innings and a Tyler Duffey implosion allowed the Royals a come-from-behind win.
