The Twins have not shown a propensity to invest heavily in their bullpen. Instead, their preferred approach is to gather a wealth of interesting, flexible options and sort through them during the season.

It can work, but as they learned last year, sometimes the learning experience can be very costly.

The Minnesota Twins are looking like contenders in the American League Central. While the lineup is loaded at the Major League level, they’ll need depth and prospects to supplement along the way. Fortunately, the St. Paul Saints look up to the task.

This offseason the Minnesota Twins signed Byron Buxton to an extension cementing their centerfield plans into the foreseeable future. Needing the talent to play alongside him, and provide depth, new outfield possibilities remain a key for the Twins. 2017 draft pick Mark Contreras could be among them.

The Twins Opening Day roster is becoming more and more clear by the day, and could continue to change as we go forward. Lefty Danny Coulombe has made the roster. He was added to the 40-man roster this morning. Catcher Jose Godoy was DFAd to make room, but there is a new catcher in the organization. Two other players were assigned to minor-league camp. 

The Twins entered the offseason with an aggressive need for high-end pitching – one which they basically half-addressed with their trades and signings.

For better or worse, the front office will lean hard this season on an internal pipeline it's spent half a decade developing.

The Minnesota Twins announced on Sunday morning that three more players have been assigned to minor-league spring training. Outfielder Jake Cave and left-handed pitchers Devin Smeltzer and Jovani Moran will not be on the Twins Opening Day roster. UPDATE - following the game, Jake Faria was sent to minor-league camp, and it was announced that Cody Stashak will stay in Ft. Myers with some biceps tendinitis. 

When Twins manager Rocco Baldelli announced that Joe Ryan will be making the Opening Day start for the Twins next week, it showed how much the team and front office believe in Ryan. Speaking of belief in Ryan, when the Twins traded catchers Mitch Garver and Ben Rortvedt last month, they showed their belief in Ryan Jeffers. 

Mike Trout is arguably the best player to put on a baseball uniform for the current generation. Now, Byron Buxton has the opportunity to shift his career arc and put his name among baseball’s best center fielders.
