Multiple St. Louis Cardinals Test Positive for COVID-19

Then again, ask yourself. How many persons close to you have tested positive for the virus. I know two who have tested negative. One of those was ME prior to elective surgery. The nurse at the office that tested me said they had two positive tests out of 600 people they tested (601 including me I guess). Nevertheless, MLB should have used the bubble method in 3 or 4 areas with two close ballparks (Chicago, NYC, Baltimore-Washington, Bay Area, L.A.).

Yeahright. Did you see the dugouts during the last week? Maskless players sitting with their faces less than 2 feet apart conversing extensively. Baseball people have never been known for being cerebral, but it has been hugely disappointing to me how ignorant teams have been. Everyone--EVERY ONE-- in the dugout should be wearing a mask.

You may think that 99% sounds good. Now, write down the name of 100 people you know. Then cross one name off and say goodbye forever. An uncle of mine tested positive and passed away less than a week later. With the number of positive tests within MLB someone's going to become seriously ill and/or die. It's just a matter of time.

Come on. Don't use incorrect statistics that were used against you to further your own point. It just makes everyone dumber.

I stated about a month ago on this site that we were in the "bargaining" phase of our grieving process and nothing that has happened since in the whole country... to include baseball... has dissuaded me from this opinion.

Our society is behaving like petulant teenagers with entirely predictable outcomes.

They were able to complete soccer seasons in Spain, England, Italy, etc. without any major outbreaks, and there is a LOT more close physical contact in soccer than baseball.

My conclusion: MLB is proving inept and providing and enforcing a protocol that keeps players from getting/spreading COVID.

Bingo. Inept is the accurate descriptor.

I'll say this regarding some of the statements on the thread:

 

1. I think the "bubble concept" was impossible with MLB. The outdoor Spring Training sites are in Florida and Arizona, it's like 100 degrees there and if you're playing 3-4 games per stadium in areas like that, you've got lots of day games in unbearable heat. Sure, you could have picked 5 "regional sites" and just gone from there, but at that point you've only got like six teams playing each other all year. Baseball tried to do their best to have ACTUAL BASEBALL. The NBA is hosting a tournament, it's not even the same.

 

First, I really hope you are right. I hope the full 60 games are played for everyone, and we have no further postponements.

What concerns me is how one Marlin (the commissioner says they know who he is, but obviously are respecting privacy) introduced the virus which rippled through the schedules of several teams.

How is it the NCAA can host multiple teams for the college world series but MLB, which is experimenting so much already--extra innings starting with runners in scoring position, 7 inning doubleheaders, etc., couldn't take similar quarantine measures? Is there some need for larger stadia that I'm missing? 

Again, I really hope they play all the games. I'm just concerned about another outbreak. The point wouldn't be to stop all travel, but to further what MLB has already done, minimizing travel, keeping people safe. I get that the regional networks want evening games. I don't think that would be so hard.

I'm glad they're playing. So much bleak news of late. It's a joy to see the game again. A friend who initially disliked the cardboard cutouts now has grown used to them and compares it to the Sgt. Pepper album cover. Fun to see.
