The recent success of Kennys Vargas had me wondering about the other Twins slugger we were supposed to see this year. So I checked in with Jon Paley, one of the producers of Ballplayer:Pelotero which documented the struggles Twins prospect Miguel Sano faced when signing with a major league team.

After more than 15 years paying his dues in baseball operations at both the major and minor league levels, Walt Jocketty wanted to become a general manager. He came close four times before finally landing the job in October 1994 with the Cardinals, a club that hadn’t made the postseason since 1987.

At the halfway point of the 2015 major league baseball season, it's clear that things have been notably different with Paul Molitor at the helm. Ron Gardenhire was given a tough deck of cards to play with the past few years, but Molitor has innovated early, and it's been a welcome addition to the organization.

After being named the next Twins skipper, many suggested that Minnesota was once again going with the easy, internal option. Sticking to the "Twins Way," choosing Molitor would allow Ryan to continue many of the same practices he had always had. While some candidates were considered from outside of the organization, it was always believed to be Paul's spot to lose. So far, it has been absolutely the right choice.

On Tuesday the Twins announced that Phil Hughes will undergo surgery to combat thoracic outlet syndrome. “This isn’t career threatening,” Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. “It’s an injury that I think explains maybe a little bit of his issue. If that is the case, that’s a relief.”

But an objective view of pitchers who have undergone the surgery provides less optimism.

The Saints opened the season in front of a sellout crowd of 8294 at CHS Field on Thursday, May 18^th. Even through the rain and cold, good baseball and fun prevailed, with St. Paul defeating the Gary Southshore Railcats en route to taking the series three games to one.
