Texan Is Murdered By High A In ‘God Bless America’

    John Bonnes

Last night’s 12-7 win over the Rangers featured six runs before the Rangers got an at-bat, home runs by C.J.Cron and Miguel Sano, another solid relief outing by Trevor May and even two home runs from #OldFriend Danny Santana. But the inadvertent highlight of the game happened during the seventh inning stretch, and #MNTwins twitter was THERE for it.

    Twins Video

The Rangers started the seventh inning stretch last night with a rousing rendition of “God Bless America.” This guy went for it, really belting it out, but got a little carried away at the end when he made the bold choice to go for the high A on the last note. And choked. Literally.

Poor guy turns into Tarzan on that last note. Cut to commercial. NO, FASTER!

Also, 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' has been that tradition for so many years, and I don't like that being supplanted. Again, it has nothing to do with my or anyone else's patriotism.

Your whole take is great, but this is the best part of it.   It's the seventh inning stretch. Let's all get up stretch and sing a fun, traditional song about the wonder of a baseball game together.

Yeah, I think the crowd singing to pre-recorded music is just fine.  I think the national anthem is more national and more of an anthem if everyone (or at least those who want to) sings rather than listening to an elementary school choir try to do so.

The Fenway crowd signing Sweet Caroline is pretty fun too.

How many teams have their own 'traditional song'? I've only been to two that had a 'regular thing', that team's tradition, and the whole crowd got into it. So much fun.

As long as a no team latches on to Baby Shark, those types of traditions are welcome when I go to a stadium.  :)

    Hahaha ...

    Dear Dave St. Peter:

We need a song that becomes our tradition, to sing at the stretch at Target Field, like Texas has 'Deep in the Heart', and the SF Giant sing 'Lights of the City' and they sing 'Sweet Caroline' at Fenway. I think the new Target Field tradition should be 'Baby Shark' and we can all get into it. So much fun!

    Sincerely,

Back in the Dome days "Don't stop believing" by Journey was the mainstay after Take Me out to the ball game.

That was the White Sox song during the 2005 season. And the owner actually had Journey come and sing at the rally after the victory parade.

Did they do ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas’? That used to be a mainstay and everyone got into it. In San Fran it’s ‘Lights of the City’ and everyone gets into it. I just really dislike these ‘performances’ in the middle of the game. Before or after? Great. Whenever they break and say ‘and now so and so will sing ...’ I groan. More often than not it’s a terrible rendition of whatever. Sometimes it’s so augmented you can’t sing along. And there are times I’ve been shushed for singing along so some do think we’re all just supposed to stand there and listen to the performance. We’re there for the game. Let’s do the traditional thing and move on. That’s just how I feel about it.

I'm not aware of any team, anywhere, in any stadium, that doesn't do Take Me Out To The Ballgame mid 7th. Regardless if they also do GBA.

I only endorse this if the entire stadium does the wave while singing it.

Love the Dylan call. When I own the team we will play “Tangled up in blue” during replays!

Like a rolling stone when Cron gets on base.

Desolation Road when we walk the lead off batter.

When announcing a demotion: stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again.
