Nuke the Vikings

Read that this morning. Hopefully he understands the hypocrisy and just goes away. I'm kind of embarrassed I initially liked Kluwe.

I think a lot of people got snookered by his cause. I'm a huge advocate for LGBT rights...but Kluwe? Not a fan. Here's the incident for those that are curious:

“Kluwe also made fun of the Vikings’ then Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Tom Kanavy, an alumnus of‒and former coach at‒Penn State University, concerning the Jerry Sandusky/Penn State situation,” the memo states. “In his interview, Kanavy explained that Kluwe cut the seat out of his pants and then put them on to imitate a victim of the Penn State child-abuse scandal. According to Kanavy, Kluwe said that he was a ‘Penn State victim’ and to ‘stay away’ from him while his buttocks were exposed.

Kluwe told investigators that he did not recall that behavior, but that “it’s very possible” that he did it.

“It didn’t stick in my mind, but, you know, I — it is definitely — if people said they saw it, then yeah, I probably did it,” Kluwe said.

I shall remember this one for the next time I am arrested. Sounds like an iron-clad alibi.

Fool proof. And the best part? Totally not hypocritical. (Even with his absurd spin on it today that he was mocking the system that allowed such jokes.)

Am I wrong in thinking that what Kluwe said to the strength and conditioning coach is actually *worse* than what Priefer said to Kluwe and the other special teamers?

hat Preifer said was reprehensible and disgusting and he is lucky to have a job. That said...he made a comment about something that never happened wheras there was actual trauma and harm caused by what Kluwe joked about.

The lame excuse about mocking the system only irritates me more.

I would disagree quite a bit, the Penn State jokes have been flying around since it all went down (and the jokes are pointed AT Paterno and the university etc) I don't think it is hate speech and if anything its just "Un PC"

When someone says they should round up all the gays and nuke them, it pretty much is the definition of hate speech. There is no real legitimate basis of how you can defend that comment, it's not really a joke, nor does it have any purpose to be a joke.

At my last job I worked with a guy who was a big Penn State guy, I used to crack jokes all the time to get under his skin and he would defend the university to the death "Paterno had no idea it was going on!!" Anyways like I mentioned it was all in good fun, however had I said something about his religion/orientation etc and made a comment like "nuke em all" I'm sure I would have been fired in about 2 seconds flat.

I'm a pretty big Kluwe fan but he needs to walk away and let this go, particularly after his Penn comments went public. He doesn't really have a leg to stand on at this point. Glass houses, throwing stones, and all that.

Yeah, it sounds like he wants to go nuclear on them at this point. I really hope he doesn't start throwing other players and crap under the bus, i.e "One time Adrian Peterson said he doesn't like X because of their constant Y"

If he wants to complain some more about Pfiefer etc, fine, just leave the players out of it for the love of rocketpig.

First off, Kluwe's buddy and star witness (the long snapper) said it was intended as a joke to get their attention and both of them (Kluwe too) laughed at it. It's a dumb joke...but so is any joke about child rape.

And let's not brush over that - actual children were raped, traumatized, and had their lives turned upside down by Sandusky and that is something you think is ok to joke about? But a stupid, hateful hypothetical means we should grab our torches and pitchforks? I can't even imagine such messed up priorities.

What Preifer said were ugly, meaningless words about something that has never happened and will never happen. What Kluwe joked about was actual violence inflicted on other human beings. Since when do freaking words matter as much as violent acts?

No offense Dave, but to call that nothing more than "Un-PC" is flabbergasting. And we haven't even talked about using potential underage sexual misconduct as flame bait.

Kluwe no longer can keep priorities straight. (He said much the same in spousal abuse and drunk driving being equal to what Preifer said) He's basically the troll many of us worried he might be.

So back to teh Vikings... Do we need to nuke them? :)

If the franchise ceased to exist tomorrow, the rest of my life would be much more happy.

  • 3 weeks later...

I renounced my Vikings fandom following the Brad Childress hiring. The defense became the calling card of the team, and I liked that, but I legitimately did not beleive the organization had a plan for success. The Bret Favre signing almost worked, and then exploded in a perfectly Bret Favre way. I ust couldn't bring myself to spend money to support the Vikings in anyway, or to invest myself emotionally with such a poorly run organization.

I moved from Alaska to Miami, and enjoyed a few Dolphins games, but never found a real team to root for since leaving the Vikings behind. I'm not sure anyone who moves to Miami ever becomes a Dolphins fan. I sure didnt.

I moved out to Seattle in 2012 and Seahawks fever was everywhere. I got swept up. I invested in the Seahawks, financially and emotionally.

I cant ever rememebr being as excited about football as I have been the last 2 years in Seattle, at least not since I was a little kid who lived in purple and gold.

I'll always have a soft spot for the Vikings, but I'll never be back on the bandwagon.

My whole family has lived in Seattle the past several years now, and I must say I enjoy having them as my #2 team quite a bit! It is a nice change of pace from the freaking Vikings.

With that said, I am optimistic that Zimmer and Norv will get this ship turned around rather quickly, I think they win 7-8 games, and if Bridgewater can step up somewhat quickly I see them as a dark horse to win 9 or 10 potentially (easy schedule) and make the playoffs.

The bad news is they have a pretty tough schedule out of the gate:

@STL

NE

@ Saints

Atlanta

@ GB

If the Vikings can somehow go 2-3 in those first 5 weeks I would be ecstatic as the schedule then gets a bit easier with:

Det

@Buff

@TB

Wash

The Panthers, Bears and Jets at home should all be winnable as well, and they might be able to sneak a road victory from either at Detroit or at Miami at the end of the year as well.

With that said here is a path to 10-6 and the playoffs that doesn't appear to be too insane as the most questionable "W" listed is opening week:

@STL- Win

NE- Loss

@NO- Loss

ATL-Win

@GB- Loss

Det- Win

@Buff-Win

@TB- Win

Wash- Win

@Chi- Loss

GB-Loss

Car-Win

NYJ- Win

@Det- Loss

@Miami- Win

Chi- Win

I'm cautiously optimistic. Losing Allen sucks but Barr could make up for it. If they hit on a few rookies and Cassell or whoever wins the QB job can complete a downfield pass once in a while then they might win a few games. There is some talent on both sides of the ball, but critically missing at QB and MLB.

I think they'll be 7-9 or so.  The defense is still in need of a bit more help in the secondary but I think they take a major step.

I also really hope we get at least 6 games of Bridgewater under center.  I'm pretty excited about what I saw of him in college, but I have to see it against this level.
