Correa potentially available again

Jon Heyman came out last night and said Correa wasn't interested in restructuring the contract with the Mets.  Someone close to the situation said a 55% chance the Mets get something worked out.

So the question becomes are the Twins willing to offer him a contract again,  and at what money and how many years.  Do they try to create a contract similar to Buxton's?  I don't think Correa would be interested in that.  On its face getting Correa for $285 seems like a deal in this market,  but when 2 teams pass on him potentially,  that doesn't seem like quite the deal.  I still think He would give you the value of that contract in the next 6-7 years.  The Twins still have the financial flexibility to pull this off.  However if the medical risk is big enough that 2 big market teams are unwilling to sign him,  should a smaller market team be willing to take on that risk?  The Twins are in the unique situation they should have a better idea of what is going on,  they will also be able to tell if there was major structural changes in the leg since last years physical.   We will see if Correa potential falls into the Twins lap for the 2nd year in a row.

This is becoming laughable.  "Howeverrrr",  I would love to see the Twins work out a deal with a relatively high guarenteed contract, with incentives like Buxtons contract.  Such as guarenteeing 10yr @ 20M per, with very reachable incentives that could reach 35M per.  That's 200M guarenteed plus, you do well-we pay well.  This should become a more standard way of doing contracts.

Wow,  so you are no longer done with the management then after not signing Correa the first time around?

No, it's worse than that. I'm apathetic toward the franchise. Maybe that changes by opening day but given the fact I now have a Brewers site to run, I have a new-found excuse to not really care that much about the Twins.

But finding a way to retain Correa's services would likely go a long way toward making me care about the team again.

This situation is unprecedented; I don't remember anything comparable at least. At this point I think teams are spooked, and this gives teams more leverage in negotiations regarding the length of the contracts they would offer. It seems more and more likely that no team will offer a deal with a term as long as what the Giants, Mets, and Twins offered. It's easy for me to imagine Correa being soured on joining the Giants or the Mets after they have in effect pulled their offers. If the Twins do get back in play, and that's not a pipe dream, I would expect that they would no longer offer ten years, but we can hope that the front office's efforts to establish good will with Correa will make him receptive to the idea of returning. This could turn out to be even more of a bolt from the blue than when we signed him last spring.

I agree.  This Correa saga is a joke.  It's even more of a joke that some people think the Twins should sign him.  I say no and I hope they do not sign him.  The whole thing is ridiculous.  He's used the Twins many times already just for his own financial gain.  Why go through that again when two teams didn't like the results of his physical.  Twins would be foolish to sign him.  Move on.  I'm just getting so tired of hearing about Carlos Correa.  Please stop the stories.  He was only here for one season.

Dude, if you're running a Brewers site you have no business caring about the  Twins.  Show some passion one way or the other.

Sure, okay. It's not as if I've lived in something like five states and formed bonds with various teams along the way. I'm pretty sure I'm comfortable fanning the way I want to fan and you go ahead and do it the way you want to do it.

News flash: I also want to start a Padres site because I lived in San Diego for almost ten years at the height of Tony Gwynn's greatness and the 98 World Series, which kinda revived my baseball fandom after the strike. Shame on me, I guess.

somebody's gotta do it.  obviously.  I was thinking we could count on the admins on this site.  guess not

I’ve spent the past two decades building, maintaining, and growing websites centered around the Minnesota Twins. Not all of us have the free time to be a super fan like you.

I was thinking about this before the Mets physical was completed last week. I thought if the Mets come back with concerns, perhaps the two years of $70M remaining on Correa's contract that he opted out of with the Twins might end up being the best he could now hope for.

I'd still welcome him here but, obviously, I have to assume the injury concern carries significant weight if two teams have now passed.

This is the second time that I've seen this tone from an admin on this site in less than a week.

How about a 3 yr. at 36m with another   2  options of 3 yrs each. The Twins need him in this transitional time.   Then trade with Marlins for Lopez or Cabrera.

I've posted in the past about how I don't think Pablo Lopez is all that great, based on durability and a relatively high ERA since start #8 last year, but I do like Cabrera. Jesus Luzardo too... and I'd be willing to take a chance on Trevor Rogers too.

It was probably me the other time, too.

Honestly, it's just a slow day and I'm having a laugh over someone challenging a stranger's fandom on the internet because "reasons". It is, on its face, completely absurd.
