Not sure, but Baxendale and Duffey are both looking like gems from the draft if they continue to put in these starts.

Average fastball decent curveball. Sickels says he has superb command. He probably won be challenged unit he gets to AA.

Re: Baxendale: That was probably an old scouting report from his college days. He has a plus two seamer that sits at 91-92 and peaks at 93-94 with very good movement and deceptive cutter-like action. His slider is his out pitch and at this point it is a borderline plus plus pitch; needs to work on the command. His change has a very late action and it is still improving. This is a pitch he did not have much of in college, making it even more impressive. Still throws the curve as a change of pace pitch, but at this point it is on the back of his arsenal. Few command issues (but that is nitpicking.) I see him at AA before the end of the year and maybe at AAA to start next season. He had the single most dominating pitching performance I've ever seen (at any level) late this spring and I described it here. Frankly, he was amazing and at that point, I knew that he had it together this season...

Expect to read a bunch more here on Baxendale and several other of the top performers from April. There were a lot. Great month in the organization.

 

I agree, Cap'n, that the talent in CR is incredible!

A risers and fallers list might be kind of cool, and a surprise pitcher/hitter of the month. Someone who it might not be the best performance but one that kind of came out of nowhere.

 

Gotta start wondering who might get an early season promotion. If some of these guys keep it up through May it's gonna be hard to not promote them, right?
