He made up for mistake with a great play to get the out. But Rocco putting him in here is just more to add to his resume. I like the kid playing, but why are we putting him in cold with very little MLB experience in this tight game?

He's in the game because for some reason Billy Hamilton was in the game, causing a PH by Kepler who can't play the field apparently, meaning someone had to go into the game. Gordon to the OF, Palacios to 2b.

Because there aren't other options, given Kepler's health? Not sure why Kepler is on the roster at this point, but that's not on the manager.

I'm not sure what the National League has to do with it, but yeah. If he gets few opportunities, then he can contribute by cashing a good percentage of the opportunities he gets, driving himself in, and getting on base a lot. Running the bases well.

I fully understand there are many componants to a good offense. But at the end of the day. only scoring runs matters. And it's tough to consistently score runs if you don't have guys in the lineup who drive them in.

It's also pretty hard to consistently score runs if you don't have guys in the lineup who score them (by getting on base).

Right.

And some players take advantage of the opportunity, often, and some don't.

OBP in an RBI situation is pretty overrated.

The object of the game is to cross home plate. That doesn't happen very often unless someone drives in runs. At the end of the season, I'll take RBI as a contribution to winning games over any other offensive stat. Any. Other. Offensive. Stat.

So in 2019 AND 2020, you think Eddie Rosario was a superior offensive player to Mike Trout, since Eddie had more RBI than Trout in both years, in fewer PAs.

This is true. I like guys who get on base. But someone still needs to drive them in. At the end of the game, they decide who won based on who crossed home plate the most, not who got to first base most.

let's blow through our supposed closers in a tie game in game one.  Game two a throw away game.  I guess Pagan will take the L in the 10th

Who should pitch in a close game they might win? Because I'm pretty sure the site would think it was stupid to bring in most anyone else in a close game. Who should have come in?

I think that Rosario knocked in more runs. And that was in itself, very valuable. As for the strawman Trout in this question, who is superior? Some may be for a spell, but seriously....... that is a hell of a strawman. But you didn't ask me......

What exactly do you want to do?  Use the lessor guys in a winnable late inning game and hope they get lucky or hope your offense can do anything in the 10th and have Duran out there in the 10th to close the door?  The game now hinges on the top of the order driving in 1+ runs with a runner on 2nd.

Rosario didn't have more RBI than Trout in either of those years.
