Leadership Seems Lacking as Twins Look Lifeless

Recommended Posts

The word you're looking for is heart.  Can't measure it but you can sure tell when it's not there.  Been harping on this since Eddie Rosario left.  Got worse when Nelly Cruz followed him out the door.  I know.  There's going to be a whole bunch of folks are gonna jump on this thread and tell me that Eddie's got a .552  OPS and that he's a terrible defensive outfielder.  I don't care.  He's got a ring and we've trotted a dozen guys who don't have one out to LF since he left.

Teams eventually take on the personality of their leader. Baldi is an analytic apologist with little to minimal natural leadership skills.

And yes, when an entire team underperforms for long periods of time.... OF COURSE it is on leadership. If you don't believe that, then there is no purpose for a manager at all.

I said this last year multiple times and will say it again. When Baldi is eventually fired (and he will, unfortunately probably not after this year but likely next), he will not get another managerial job in the MLB because he is simply not great managerial material.

No team is waiting with bated breath for him to be fired so that they can swoop him up.

He will be a great bench coach or front office asset for many years though!

Twins have no heart or interest in winning-wasted season, need to blow team up this off season and go into rebuilding mode with better players in system instead of what’s on twins.

Saints are 57-58  those players would be so much better, LOL.

Yes I’d take Saints over twins. It Just pisses me off how they should’ve won division in June when the had 7+ game lead only to blow it. If twins don’t win division heads need to roll!!! Rocco is to soft he needs to light fire Under twins ass. why bother going to games if twins will lose???? Times running out twins need to win but I don’t think they have team to do so. 75 wins 3rd place-Rocco is fired/FO is also-team is blown up off season. I’d rather see twins of old losing all the time then this **** show

In his eighth year in the majors.

I'm not buying the cited article as anything but a PR-inspired puff piece during a dreary part of the season.

The “puff piece” article actually has nothing to do with Buck learning Spanish. He did it to be a better teammate not to get written about.
If your beef is with the author of the article then fine. If you are denying Buck credit for trying to be a better teammate then you are wrong.

They should call this the "backup QB fallacy"

Classic projection. "I'm angry about the team losing, and if I don't see Rocco screaming and yelling and throwing a temper tantrum every day then he doesn't care about winning and losing."

The manager is not there to mirror the emotions of the fans. He's there to prepare the team to win. I don't know about you but if my manager yelled and screamed at me all day I'd quit. Throwing a temper tantrum because your team is losing is poor management. Rocco might not be manager of the year but at least he's not an immature hothead who will quickly alienate his players.

I don't know if this last ten games or so run will be the beginning of the end of this season.  I do know that the team feels lost, defeated, at least from someone watching games on tv.  Expect they will lose all three in Houston, but then one never knows until the games are played.

On the other hand, they are 2 games out of first and play lots of games against the Indians and Sox.  Win against those two in September and they could move on to the playoffs.

What is interesting to me is that every morning I review the box scores of all the games over coffee.  What I find disappointing is that the Twins have been in first place much of the summer and yet, their attendance is a very disappointing 22,500 per game.  Should they get the slide in fans coming out as is normal after school starts, their average for the year might be a disappointing 20,000-21,000.

Don't know why fans aren't going?  Do know why my wife and I haven't gone to any games this year.  When we were younger we went to 5-6 games a year.  None the last two or this year.  There isn't any player I really want to see like back when Puckett and Hunter were patrolling center.  Love Buxton, but its 50-50 at best we would see him.  Won't go to night games cause they are too late and no way do I want to be walking around anywhere in downtown Minneapolis after dark.

I guess my point is there is something missing.  Where is the excitement on the field and in the stands?

Inflation has taken most of the discretionary money out of people's budgets. They should be doing deep discounts on the cheap seats to get people into games but I think they're afraid discounts will eventually make it to the expensive seats if they devalue the cheapest tickets.

Can't blame it on the starting pitching ... Guess we let the chance to trade Correa for some minor leaguers slip through our grasp although I don't fault management as we were in first place.

I hope the trip to Houston doesn't blow us out of the race

Sadly I think this is the week that will sink the season. There’s no signs at all that the offense will string together timely hits. This week has a high likelihood of ending 1-6 or 0-7.

Baseball wide problem. Pitchers take too long between pitches. Guys swing for the fence every pitch so there aren't as many baserunners or balls put in play. Stealing is done, bunting is done. Shifts take away tons of hits. Pitchers only throw a few innings per start. Flat out the game is just not very exciting anymore and hasn't been for quite awhile. It's just bad baseball all throughout the league right now, but MLB just continues to cut their own throats.

The team has gotten so hard to watch that as a huge Twins fan, I can barely take it. I cant imagine how frustrating it is for the team to live in that world every second of the day. Baldelli is simply not a good manager. He may be OK but I have come to the painful realization that he is not capable of understanding the non-metrics part of the game. How many times has Pagan been put into a big spot and cost the team the game. Why does Arraez not bat first every game. Why does it sound like Buxton largely determines when he will play and if he plays in the field? Why are our hitting and pitching coaches poor and now coaching in college (after leaving mid-season).

The Twins staff is pretty awful and it only takes a computer to use analytics. TIme to find a head coach who understands the rest of it.

TIto is one of the best managers in the game and those managers are not easy to find. However, if he was the Twins manager the Twins are 10 games ahead of the White Sox and the Guardians are a third place team.

In the postgame last night Baldelli said he is waiitng for one of the hitters to carry the team. Im paraphrasing. However, I think the Baldelli is uncomfortable with guys who are too intense about winning. This team badly needs that kind of player. Guys like Eddie Rosario and Arraez make him uncomfortable and he would rather lose that use a player who questions him (see Smeltzer).

The Twins rarely win because of Baldelli. They frequently lose because of him and his low key "we'll try to win tomorrow" attitude. Outside of blowing up in the Toronto game he is weak and unimaginative. He has no feel for human emotions.

Pitching coaches dont just abandon their teams in the middle of the season if they respect their boss.

Time to find someone who can add wins not subtract them.

I can't go to the games in Minnesota, but when they come to LA, I used to go to all of them. This year, I could only bring myself to go to one, and there were 5. Two at Dodger Stadium, and three at Angel Stadium. I wanted to see Ryan pitch, so I went to the first one. I had no interest in paying to see Bundy or Archer pitch, not much to see Mahle, and Gray would have been OK but it was Freddy Freeman bobblehead night, and the resale tickets spiked about 3 times in price. I actually would even had gone anyway, except they just look like they gave up in the first game, and I just lost interest. No reason to go be made to feel like a chump Twins' fan in public. May as well do it in the privacy of my home.
