2022 MLB Draft Day 2 Thread

Recommended Posts

If the Twins truly do have to save some money to sign Prielipp, they're probably not getting any HS kids this draft. With how many of the team's top prospects are in the upper minors, I kind of thought they'd go younger this year.  But I suppose I'd rather they just roll with the BPA approach early in the draft anyway.

MLBTradeRumors.com reported Rocker signed for $5.2MM. The two spots are worth about a total of $8MM. That leaves Porter likely somewhere around $3MM,

That just doesn't add up to me as Porter was rated higher than Rocker by many if not most people. The rest of the picks aren't worth enough to push Porter back up to that  4-5M range.

No real scouting report that I can find but his college stats make him interesting.  Must be a good contact hitter as he has a high batting average and OPS.  Don't know the level of competition faced or anything about the arm, speed etc but just from a hitting perspective looks good for a number 5 pick.  Maybe more bonus saving as well?

Is he this years Encarnation-Strand?

He's a short stop from Notre Dame Col in Ohio.  That's all I got.

I saw Notre Dame and I was interested,  then saw it was Notre Dame college and he likely played extremely poor competition.  Maybe something there.

I am with you. $3MM gets Porter top 25 money, so unless he knew he was going to fall out of the teens, I am not sure why he would agree to that.

I think Texas can and will find more money for Porter.  What a great deal for them though.  They need a fast moving pitcher and Rocker teamed with Lieter should give them a nice 1-2 punch.  Porter should help eventually as well.  They are Texas go big or go home.  Have to say I like the upside for them and like going for it.

And then they pick another prep player with the next pick. Maybe they're not 100% confident in getting Porter signed but they know with Rocker going way under slot, they can just draft a bunch of prep players and hope for the best.

I mean, they didn't have any 2nd, 3rd or comp round picks to increase their bonus pool. Rocker's savings is going to be worth more than the rest of the players bonus pools combined.

Toughest team they played this year was Seton hall, otherwise played the likes of Wayne State.  So basically played similar competition as Varland did with Concordia St. Paul, maybe slightly better competition.  Looks like player of the year in the conference and was in the top 3 for most categories.

LOL  never mind,  it is Seton Hill, not Seton Hall,  wow.   What the hell with trying to copy larger college names.

Ben Ross
SS Notre Dame College Springfield, OH

Ross had a mammoth freshman campaign with Notre Dame College, hitting .426 with eleven homers, striking seldomly. Reasonably unknown on the national scouting circuit, Ross is a rangy defender with good hands on the dirt and a strong arm. He doesn't possess a ton of bat speed, but his bat path is optimized for damage and he drives the ball with authority to all-fields. Scouts will want to see how he can fare against better competition, something that will be a challenge given NDC's current slate.

Since I have little knowledge would not the Northwoods league be a major step up for him?  At least that is what I am hoping.

It's at least a wood bat league.  So that's something.
