A Surprising Starter for the Twins to Target In Trade

I don't think any team in baseball would pay anything more than cash considerations for AAAA players who are hitting well at AAA. Guys like that are a dime a dozen and are in the minors for good reasons.

Dropping Snell's contract would be the cash considerations in this kind of deal. Snell isn't worth anything except payroll relief at this point.

Intersting thought... Pretty similar article written here a month ago ..  More of a deep dive on what a deal with the Padres could look like, using essentially the exact same logic and argument for acquiring Snell.

I'll claim this this blog as well .. Unfortunately my previous account that went by the name of "Tim" wont login ;(

I also feel like Noah Syndergaard and Kyle Hendricks (more of the former) could really finish off the rotation for a cheaper price than that of Montas or Castillo, the Padres would also be looking for outfield improvements and some depth starters so getting Luis Campusano as a future Catcher isn’t out of the picture.

The twins could take Snell with the right deal. Some have said trade Duffy or sano. Duffy would have to improve a little bit over the next 2 to 3  times on the mound. Sano has no chance of being traded to S.d. sano will not have more than 4 games to look good. He is paid 9+ million this year. And 14 million next year. S.D will not take that on. They are worried about cap space. We will have to trade a prospect or two. Not top of the line but down the list somewhere.

Sano has a 2.75M buyout next year. He's not getting that 14M. Snell is making 12.5 this year and 16 next. Both of those numbers are higher than Sano's. SD would save 3.25M this year and 13.25 next year in that deal. Not saying they'd do it, but the money wouldn't be the reason.

Why would the Twins trade for Danny Duffy just to trade him to SD?

Also, for all those clamoring to trade Tyler Duffey for Snell, Duffey hasn’t given up a run since June 12.

I’m in less of a hurry to trade him away

Beckham might be of value to a contender needing middle infield help. Cave/Beckham package for a good arm?

Define "Good Arm"...

A couple of 30 year old minor league veterans isn't going to get you much of anything. When the Twins traded JR Murphy, who was in AAA at the time, they got Gabriel Moya, a middling lefty reliever. And that was for a catcher in the same boat.

I am not a fan of Snell at this time. I would prefer Clevinger over Snell because I feel his utility is better suited to the Twins than Snell.  My 1st choice is with Marlins for Lopez, 2nd choice with the Reds for Costillio or “A”s for Montas.

Reliefers are my primary desire such as (1)Marlins for Bass (2) D- Backs for Multipy (3) Pirates for Bednar (4) Cubs for Givens.
If  you sign good proven relief pitchers, then, you may not need any starting pitchers.

Someone better than the bottom 1/3 of our current bullpen.

Both Cave and Beckham can hold their own on a major league diamond. Someone in contention has a middle IF, or OF get injured in late July and needs to plug a hole without giving up too much and has a deep bullpen.

I would much prefer for them to take the $16.6M he would get paid next year and invest another $10M into a SP that would actually make a difference like Musgrove or Rodon.

Both of those guys are going to get a deal somewhere around 4/90. 10m isn't going to move the needle much for as they'll be getting a long term deal like Robbie Ray's.

I think we have a misunderstanding.  I am saying instead of investing 16.6m in Snell, we would be far better of investing that 16.6m plus another 10M.  In other words, 26.6M annually.  The thinking being Snell is not much of an upgrade and won't move the needle.  Getting a true front of the rotation guy would change this team.

Who would you have in mind for that price, keeping in mind that Syndergaard got $21M on a prove it deal this last season and he is more of a middle of the order starter now while he tries to reestablish himself?

Musgrove or Rodon.  IDK ... maybe it takes closer to $30M but 26-28 is what I was thinking it would take,  Of course, the number of years will influence the AAV up or down a bit.  Taillon was looking like a good target as well but he has not looked so good lately.
