No idea who this guy is, but I just saw a "nationals and marlins close to deal on Soto" Tweet......that would be huge, and indicate the Twins aren't getting a pitcher from Miami, I'd think.

I just saw a tweet from Hector Gomez that said the "Cardinals are intensifying pursuing on Juan Soto.  They have been much more aggressive of late in their trade proposals".  -1:56 PM ?‍♂️

I am very confused by the Brewers shipping out Hader now... if they were going to move him, why not do it a year ago when the return would have been bigger? Now they're going into their playoff run without their stud closer? I get that Rogers and Lamet have high rebound value... but I wouldn't be happy to be a Brewers fan.

Might be a very astute deal for them.  They won't keep Hader after this year.  Rogers probably bounces back and gives them a great 2 months.  I know nothing about Lamet, but internally, Devin Williams is ready to take over as closer and Boxburger, Miner and Gustave have been really good.

So the Yankees have landed Benintendi, Effress, Montas, and Trivino... yikes. Can't remember the last time one team was far and away this much better than all of the others... but if they fall short of a World Series, it will be delicious.

Also, that return feels light for Montas... just a #5 & #10 prospect plus a couple of throw-ins?

Between the Reds big win in the Castillo trade, and what appears to be an underwhelming Montas return, I kind of suspect the Reds will expect too much for Mahle and he'll end up sticking around.

On the other hand, the A's do tend to walk to the beat of their own drum. This certainly could have been a case where other teams had offers out that the industry would have considered superior but the A's just liked these Yankee players better.

I still think Houston can give them a run.

Yeah I don't pretend to follow prospect rankings much but from the numbers being thrown around it doesn't sound like a haul.

It'll fly under the radar with Montas being moved but Mancini is a great get for Houston.

Also, wtf is Baltimore doing? I get that they're in the East, but they're 3 games back of the WC spot and 2 of the 5 teams in front of them are division opponents. They've been bad for so long, why not just do the fans a minor service and at least see what happens in the second half?

Well, I'm not sure that's a return the Twins can match for Montas. Our #5, #10, #20, 1nd #21 prospects are something like Canterino (good prospect, but hurt and may be destined for the bullpen), Bryan Medina (rookie leaguer), Alerick Soularie (23, A+ ball), and  Marco Raya (19, A ball). Not 2 high minors ready to try the Show pitchers plus two farther out well regarded guys. Even if you try for better high minors guys at around the same level on the list you get Wallner (#8), Henriquez (#11), Strotman (#16), Steer (#7), Balazovic (#3, but hurt yet again), and Palacios (#26).  These guys just aren't as good/projectible as the guys Oakland got from the Yankees.

That in a nutshell is the rub. We just don't have many well regarded guys at the AAA or even AA level to trade, and NONE of them are pitchers. All of the pitching is either hurt or under performing.  All of the "real" pitching prospects are at the A+ or lower levels or in the case of Balazovic or SWR, are hurt.  Our best prospects are either in MLB and hurt or hopefully untouchable in trade like Miranda or Ryan. What we do have to trade is non-SS hitters like Steer, Wallner, CES, Martin, Urbina, etc. or "meh but could improve" MLB backups like Celestino and Gordon. And that type of player simply isn't worth as much as MLB ready or close to ready high upside pitching.

We can't get guys like Castillo or Montas this year because we can't compete - we don't have the prospects to trade. Neither guy was worth Miranda or Lewis to me and Larnach and Kirilloff are both of questionable value right now, especially Kirilloff. I really hope we are trying to pry Snell or Lopez (either the Oriole or Marlin) loose. That's the pond in which we can fish with the bait we have.

Agreed, isn't he a fan favorite? Now there's an extra playoff spot and they're giving up when they're close to getting in? Haven't they traded enough pieces away at the deadline in years past?

If anyone takes that contract, the Rockies should be very grateful (but ya, wtaf on extending Bard?).

For 2/$19 too. Anytime you have a chance to double down on a 37 year old having a career 1/2 year, you take it according to Rockies FO.

#HugWatch. It would be a total Rockies move to extend a 37 year old closer and trade away Kris Bryant…

I think he’s injured. He was iffy for my fantasy league this morning anyhow,

But yeah, that does sound like a move the inept Rockies would make.

I mean, if they found a taker, that clubs is even more inept I guess.
