Was the infield playing in? If it’s not hit right at someone playing in then you’re probably scoring anyway

So like I said, odds are you’re scoring unless it’s hit literally right at someone. I’d alway rather that man at third rather than first.

Well, no. The idea is with the infield in, if an infielder has to move at all, right or left, or in, the runner has time to score. Doesn't always work. Neither does hoping for a two out hit if you don't try to score.

I think I’ve seen it work maybe twice in the last few years. And that’s being generous

Well, it's pretty standard. Whether it's the right call is certainly debatable. 

On my team, we run the contact play.
