Replay has improved the game for the most part, but this is an example of how it's changed the game for the worse. Gordon beat the throw, should have been safe, but was only called out because of a non-baseball related technicality. The ump only called him "out" because he thought that maybe Gordon's knee came off the bag for a millisecond.

From 1889-2008 that's a stolen base. It's not in the spirit of the game for him to be called out there.

I'm generally not a fan. It slows down the game and carries a subset of rules. Baseball is best with minimal rules.

You can’t have everything, fans wanted replay, well this is it

I know. And if an Oriole is the guy stealing the bag, I'm probably less inclined to be upset about it.

But c'mon, it's really really ticky-tack sometimes. NFL overdoes it too.

Keep running a guy out there who is an automatic K in every situation and expecting different results is the definition of what??

He's on IL. He's not out there.

How about Jax pitching in a big spot here?

He might not be in this game if it's against the Yankees or Blue Jays, but hey it's good to see the guy hanging in there.

But they have to, because they have the replay and they are required to use it. I agree Gordon should be safe but those days are gone

Where would you draw the line though? The ump just gave the call to Baltimore, could've gone either way.

Which is why it'll never happen. But if it were, it'd have to be about something oversliding the bag or something of that sort. I agree that if someone overslides the bag they should be out, but that isn't what happened to Gordon. He beat the throw. He kept his hand on the bag as long as humanly possible, and then engaged the bag with his foot. He never overslid the bag. He simply was off the bag for a few frames. That isn't what replay is intended for (in my mind).

Seemed more of lack of evidence to overturn the call on the field, just sucked the ump went against the runner.
