GAME THREAD: Minnesota Twins at Tampa Bay Rays, 4/29/2022, 7:10 PM EDT (6:10 PM CDT)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, and welcome to tonight’s game thread. Tonight the good guys open their only series of the 2022 regular season at Tropicana Field vs the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays make their only appearance at Target Field beginning six weeks from tonight. I’m going to use the tried-and-true five-topic intro.

1. Humidors are being used to store game balls at all 30 MLB stadiums. I guess that’s fine, but wouldn’t it be easier and better to change the specifications of the ball to make this unnecessary?

2. The fewest wins for a team qualifying for the postseason in a full season was 82, done by the 1973 New York Mets. Could this be the year that a team with a losing record qualifies? Three weeks into this season the AL Central appears to be making a run at this dubious accomplishment.

3. Shameless promotion: the other day two of my kids and I patronized MetroNOME Brewery. Beyond the tasty beverages and congenial ambience, they have a great mission.

Moreover, the establishment is literally a stone’s throw (across the street) from CHS field. I encourage anyone who fancies a beverage before a Saints game to stop by.

4. Can the Timberwolves come back from the brink? Anyone who wishes to watch their game, or both their game and the Twins game, or bounce back and forth has my blessing.

5. Niccolo Paganini was the Giovanni Bottesini of the violin.

Just to see what would happen, I used Google Translate to translate the above into Japanese and then back into English. Here’s the result.

hello everyone. Welcome to tonight's game thread. Tonight, the good guys will be opening the only series of 2022 regular seasons at Tropicana Field vs. Tampa Bay Rays. Raise will appear in the target field from tonight for 6 weeks. Use an intro of five proven topics.

1. Humidor is used to store game balls in all 30 MLB stadiums. I think that's fine, but I think it's easier to change the specifications of the ball and make it unnecessary.

2. The New York Mets in 1973 had 82 victories for the teams participating in the full-season postseason. Is it the year that the team with the losing record qualifies? Three weeks after this season, AL Central seems to have achieved this suspicious outcome.

3. Shameless Promotions: The other day, my two kids and I patronized the MetroNOME Brewery. Beyond good drinks and a pleasant atmosphere, they have a great mission. https://www.metronomebrewery.com/ In addition, the facility is literally (on the other side of the street) just a stone's throw from the CHS Field. If you like drinks before the Saints game, be sure to stop by.

4. Can the Timberwolves come back from the brink? Anyone who wants to see their game, or both their game and the Twins game, or want to bounce back and forth, has my blessing.

5. Nicolo Paganini was Giovanni Bottesini on the violin.

Amazing! Can't wait to give that place a try ... trivia night? opera night? jazz night?

Is the part about Josh Winder speculation on Do's part?  The Twins had a chance to maintain a 6 man rotation with Sonny Gray out, and demurred, leaving Winder in the bullpen.  I would be surprised if the Twins now want to keep a 6 man rotation, especially with rosters reducing.

They only have five in the rotation now and if Ober is out, it makes sense to move Winder in. When Gray returns, that is when it would be decided whether to keep Winder in the rotation.

Buxton DHing again. If that is what it takes to keep him in the lineup, but is this also indicating that the knee isn’t 100%?

Not braggin, but maybe a bit....a necessary thing it is imho

Jazz night sounds perfect for my mood.  Give me a cocktail and let me mellow out to some smooth sounds!

yeah ... I don't think the brewery does cocktails ... but you should check them out

Fair point, but I can enjoy a beer now and then.  And I'm definitely in a mood to enjoy some jazz!

Whelp, I don't think any of us believed Bundy's pitching would stay at that level consistently, but this is a brutal start so far.

Rats.  And the Vikes just traded down with the Packers so I need to wait another 1.5 hours for their picks to kick in, and 2 hours before we get to watch the TWolves gack away another huge lead.

Not a promising evening of sports viewing!
