Carlos Correa is not going to play 162 games. Who do you suggest Rocco start in his place?

Against a team this good you put your best players on the field , not a spring training arrangement and hope for the best!

My biggest frustration with Rocco is he seems totally incapable of grasping long-term strategy.  I feel like he's not very good at understanding how the decisions he makes in the moment have ripple effects beyond the current game, for example, using 7 relievers to pitch 5 innings yesterday, the day after using 4 relievers to cover 4 innings while holding a 4 run lead, and with an early game today.

See, I disagree......

People are complaining that Polanco is at SS, but at some point, CC will need a day off and who else is going to play SS? Same with Buxton and Celestino. All of those are long term moves (and losing AK this morning doesn't help).

Also, they have more RPs than they could possibly need right now, so I don't see how that matters. The big issue was that they planned for Winder to give them 2-3 innings yesterday, but he couldn't.

Polanco has not made an error today.  But I do think it's weird to sit your $35M shortstop who is probably gone at years end after only 5 games.  As another poster pointed out, you could have DH'd either Correa or Buxton yesterday, and then you could have both of them in the lineup both days.

That's not what I asked. When Carlos Correa is not playing - which is going to happen this season - who do you play in his place? You said Rocco is playing bad fielders at a position and it's his fault if they make errors... well, Correa is going to sit out this season. Who plays in his place?

I'm saying if David Popkins was ready to be an MLB hitting coach in 2022, he probably would have been coaching somewhere other than A ball.  Wes feels like an exception at this point, and perhaps was still in college because he didn't want to be a pitching coach in the minors, and no one was willing to hire him straight to the bigs (since he was the first college pitching coach to ever go straight to MLB from college).

Why? Why would David Popkins have been coaching somewhere other than A ball? Maybe he didn't want to be coaching in AAA and preferred working with more raw prospects even if he had the ability to coach the more refined players. How many games had Baldelli managed before the Twins signed him and won 2 straight division titles with him while he maintained a .547 win percentage through his first 3 seasons? What's the "typical" path of a major league hitting coach? Why was James Rowson a minor league hitting coordinator and not a AAA hitting coach before the Twins hired him? (he had been the hitting coach for the Cubs briefly, but was also hired after being a minor league hitting coordinator) If he'd have been a AA hitting coach before this year would you blame the early ABs on that?

Oh, I wouldn't have sat Correa and Buxton today. But complaining about the manager's choice of fielders without considering his actual roster choices is arguing disingenously.

You do NOT remove Correa from this line-up, period.

I am glad Celestino is in Center as he has good fielding skills. Gordon in left field, well, he is better then Kiriloff.

Kiriloff is hurt, btw

And Correa has played more than 110 games TWICE in his career. He is not going to play all 162 games, whether you like it or not.

He should be in THIS game, period.

Don’t we have a couple 13, 14 relievers already on roster? Yet we needed to call up Rodriguez and immediately use him?

Yeah, surprised we aren't using Jax here, but he probably gets used if this Rodriguez appearance goes how I expect it to. I assume Dereck is only here for this game and is DFA'd before Friday.

CC can get a day off tomorrow--when there's, you know, a day off.  Starting Friday, the Twins have 10 games in 10 days, so sit him for a game in that stretch.

Go look at the bullpen chart from last night's game recap--the Twins have 10 relievers, but only 4 of them (Rodriguez, Jax, Duran, and Duffey didn't pitch last night).  You have to think both Thielbar and Smith are completely out, as they've pitched two days in a row.  So Rocco left himself in a bad spot if Paddack had a short start, got injured, or the game goes to extras, all because he pitched 4 guys (all of whom are probably in the top half of his 10 man bullpen) in a game the Twins had pretty well in hand.  That then cascaded into last night's 7 reliever fiasco.

Great. So start him in a game with terrible conditions so we can sit him 5 games from now and you complain then?

Show me the baseball rule where lessor players only play in less than perfect weather and top like get to sit out icky weather.

Enough about Baldelli. Almost every single one of your posts in this thread has been a swipe against him. It's boring, cut it out.

OK
